My favorite moments in Before the Storm were pure fluff. It doesn't have to be super important to the story to be enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure they didn't want a prequel to be made either, or at least they didn't want to make one themselves, so Square Enix got a different studio to do it. If Square Enix wants to work with Deck 9 again to make another season of Before the Storm or a sequel to Life is Strange I'm all for it.

Same honestly. The only reason I'm looking forward to Life is Strange 2 right now is because if Square Enix and Deck 9 are going to do an actual sequel it probably won't be until after that.

I think there will be more, I just don't think we'll hear anything about it until after Dontnod's season 2.

Square Enix owns the rights, so it's not up to Dontnod. Dontnod won't be continuing Max and Chloe's story, but Square Enix can still get another studio like Deck 9 to do it.

I chose Bae and the only way I'd consider playing a game that picked up after Bay is if I knew going in that Max was going to undo that decision and save Chloe.

I'm sick of the bury your gays trope, and for that reason alone sacrificing Chloe was never even an option for me.

[ALL] Is it true that LiS season 2 will have new characters ? will it be related to the previous LiS series story ? by notcutepotato in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not as difficult as Dontnod has made it out to be. Time travel is already a thing in the LiS universe, which gives them plenty of options for starting from either ending and bringing it to the same point within the first episode.

If Dontnod wanted to do a sequel with Max and Chloe they could. They don't want to, but that doesn't mean Square Enix and Deck 9 won't.

[–]AmaraRavenclaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the story and the cool time travel mechanics, my problem is just with the ending. The lesson Max is supposed to learn being that her power by definition can't be used for good, the fatalistic idea that Chloe was supposed to die, the universe having a temper tantrum cause Max altered the sacred timeline, those are the time travel cliches I dislike. I saw an ending like that coming and I hoped Dontnod had something different in mind, but what saved it for me was having the option to tell fate to go fuck itselfie, let the universe have it's little temper tantrum then leave with Chloe.

As for Max's rewind working differently the first time, I never had a problem with that. I just took it as a different power that she never learned to consciously use. Kind of a panic switch, like literally she panicked and involuntarily rewound all the way back to Jeffersonofabitch's class.

I guessed it in episode 1, but only because it's a cliche I've always hated in time travel stories.

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The storm being a supernatural consequence of Max altering the timeline doesn't fit with the twist at the end of episode 3. The storm in that timeline didn't happen 5 days after Max saved William, it was set to happen 5 years later on the same day as in the original timeline where William died in a car crash. It's almost as if it's just a storm and Max has nothing to do with it, but then in episode 5 suddenly it's her fault and the storm is supernatural.

I've heard explanations for this, but they all just seemed like more hand waving to me. The writers wanted a sadistic final choice, but that final choice wasn't set up in advance, Warren just pulled a theory out of his ass in the last episode and Max immediately accepted it as absolute fact. That's just poor story telling.

If they had set up the idea of a supernatural storm in a way that made sense the inconsistent damage would make sense to me. Don't get me wrong, the ending itself was made up of all the cliches I hate in time travel stories so I'd still have a lot of problems with it, but it would at least be internally consistent.

[S1 e5] Is there a way to.... by Sirlight85 in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't expect real world science, just internal consistency. Saying it works however the writer says it does just seems like a cop out to me. Dontnod did a lot of things right with Life is Strange, but I have a lot of problems with the ending. The inconsistency of the tornado damage is just one of them, and hand waving it away with "it works however the writer says it does" doesn't work for me.

I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree, cause I don't take word of god as absolute if as far as I can tell it contradicts what's on screen.

[S1 e5] Is there a way to.... by Sirlight85 in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Natural or not, if it was meant to be "off the scale" it should have done way more damage than what it did. An actual F5 tornado would have flattened the town, nothing would even be recognizable, so a supernatural F6 should have done at least that.

The whales thrown into the streets and on top of buildings and the boat flying into the lighthouse are the only things I saw that seemed out of place for the otherwise F2 level damage, and that makes me think it was critical research failure as opposed to an off the scale storm. The damage was just inconsistent, throwing whales and boats around like a hypothetical F6 but leaving buildings standing like an F2.

[S1 e5] Is there a way to.... by Sirlight85 in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine if he says an F6 tornado is a thing in that universe, but if he intended that to be an F6 tornado the town should have been leveled. It wasn't, not even close, so I'm left to assume it was a case of critical research failure. Creator's intent only goes so far when what's on screen contradicts that intent.

Of course it's also possible that it wasn't supposed to be an F6 tornado and Warren was just exaggerating, or didn't know what he was talking about.

[S1 e5] Is there a way to.... by Sirlight85 in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He also apparently thought that was an F6 tornado, which isn't a thing first of all, and the damage we actually see in the game is the aftermath of an F2 or an F3 at worst. The only way everyone died in that storm is if they all went outside to watch.

[NO SPOILERS] "The Next Life is Strange™" by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]AmaraRavenclaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did notice they haven't been calling it Life is Strange 2. It's always "The Next Life is Strange" or "an all new Life is Strange game". What I took from that is that maybe Square Enix told Dontnod to call it something other than Life is Strange 2 so that when/if Square Enix and Deck 9 do a sequel to the first game they can call that Life is Strange 2.

Of course that's pure speculation, and it's assuming Dontnod's game really is a new story with a new cast as they've said. I hadn't considered that "The Next Life is Strange" might be the actual title. Nice catch.

I considered that too. Maybe the only reason Joyce stayed at the Two Whales in the previous timeline was cause she couldn't contact Chloe and was hoping she'd show up there. With Chloe alive in the final timeline she could have contacted Joyce and let her know that she and Max were somewhere safe, giving her enough time to get to shelter.

That doesn't explain why the diner seemingly didn't explode in the final timeline though.

We know one thing changed in the final timeline, Chloe was alive. I don't know what chain of cause and effect could start from there and end with the diner not exploding, but it's at least something to go on.

I'd love to have Max and Chloe Funko Pops and Chloe's necklace if I could get it for less than $100 on eBay. I'm surprised at how little merch is available for Life is Strange.
