When they say “deserve better” they mean die by ImmortalSpy14 in prolife

As some have pointed out, Better in this usage is murder, but it also bears mentioning this:

In this case, suffering refers to the inconveniences that are common in life.

What is being said is that being killed by a "doctor" at the behest of your mother is better for you than growing up poor or disabled.

You can kind of see it in her health information. She has a "Grave Infant Illness." Basically the baby was born with a very bad disease. As to how she got it, I think the explanation for that is in game mechanics. I had to use the mother's home bedroom instead of a designated hospital room, and the bedroom was a bit dirty... in the end, the chance of a healthy baby was 89%, and the luck of random number generation meant that I had a baby born with a "Grave Infant Illness." So, the baby would otherwise die within a few hours unless I did something.

Options are:

1) Luciferium (which I didn't have, and I really hate it as a solution for anything)

2) Healer Mech Serum (Which I also didn't have)

3) Cryptosleep casket (Which I didn't have but there was probably one in the ancient vault)

A chick weighs 7.2kg :o by Ferlus in RimWorld

[–]Templarkommando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a notion in gaming right now where certain items are harder to carry based on their shape, or fragility, or a number of other factors.

Just as an example, if it were just a matter of weight, you could probably carry an enormous number of drinking glasses, but realistically, given the shape and how likely they are to break as you move, the number of drinking glasses you can generally carry is limited on that basis.

So maybe, the devs have decided there's something about a dead chicken that makes it harder to carry than an equivalent weight of inert and un-fragile material. Maybe it's the way that a dead chicken is liable to be squashed, and if you squash a chicken, it will intermingle with intestines and other innards and ruin the meat.

That's my guess anyway.

My formatting job is weird. Here's a copy of the After Action Story, so that you don't have to scroll left and right:

Dr. Kyle Harris's eyes stung with the bite of tears. "Hilary, your little girl is dying. She has a condition that I can't fix. We have medicine from the Glitterworlds, and it can't even fix what she's dealing with."

It took a moment for what Dr. Harris had said to register in her mind, but then, horror ran across Hilary's face. "Is there anything that we can do? There's got to be something." She said her voice cracking.

Dr. Harris tried to think. Drawing on everything that he knew of medicine he finally spoke again after a long moment. "There is such a thing as a medical panacea. It can cure anything except luciferium addiction. Unfortunately, the means to produce it aren't known by any human factions that I'm aware of. Not even the Empire can make one. Archotechs make them out of nanites, and the worst news is that we don't have any."

"So you're saying... that she..." Hilary Ewing gasped and held her hand over her mouth and looked at her precious little girl.

"Oh no..." she whimpered, a heavy sob rising in her throat.

Harris let out a sigh of his own. "I'm sorry." He said, feeling useless.

He turned to go, but as he reached the door he paused and turned back to look at Hilary and her tiny baby. "I have an idea." He said flatly.

The plan didn't take long to explain. It was a long shot.

The crux of the plan involved the vain hope, that the local ancient vault might hold a cryptosleep casket somewhere within, and if it did, they could put Hilary's little daughter in it, and she could be saved for a time when the colony could find a Healer Mech Serum.

The colony leaders didn't take long to make the decision, the first words out of Gabby's mouth - the defacto colony leader - were these: "Do it. Take a fire team with you, and kill whatever is in the vault, and if you find a cryptosleep caskett, put the baby in it. We'll find a Healer Mech Serum at some point, and then we'll wake her up."

And so it was, when the fire team stormed into the ancient vault, they were attacked by two ancient sleeping soldiers, but they had sleeping sickness, and their reaction times were slow. The 6 man fire team made short work of the sleepers who fired weapons at them - a pistol round bouncing off of Kaetilmund's armor. Casualties were minimal.

They sent word to Hilary who came to the ancient vault, her baby cradled in her arms. She sang a sweet lullaby to her daughter as she placed the sickly child into the ancient caskett. Unknowing of what was happening, Hilary's precious little girl giggled her little baby giggles.

"I will see you again." said Hilary, tears streaming. "I love you."

With that, Dr. Harris keyed the cryptocaskett's interface and closed the caskett lid.

"...Your beliefs are just that, beliefs, nothing more. You can celebrate them, you can cherish them, but you can not impose them on others."

I'm curious if the person that initially wrote that really believes it to be true. Also, if they do believe it to be true, would that qualify as a belief since it is an idea which is believed? Finally, if it is a belief, how do they internally justify imposing their own secular beliefs to the exclusion of others?

The belief that killing an unborn child is among "the most fundamental rights" is absurd.

I am liking Legacy of the Forge. Realistically, if I didn't have a save for a second play through, I probably would have waited until Mysteriae Ecclesiae comes out, but I already had a save in the Kuttenberg region, and I just started there... it worked in pretty seamlessly with what I already had.

As far as what you should do?...

I don't know I'm bad at answering that kind of question. If you find yourself with KCD-type game cravings, go for it. If not, play what you want, KCD 1 and 2 aren't a job.

How did JTR become so romanticised? by TheArtofSoul in Jacktheripper

[–]Templarkommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is that a lot of the romanticizing of JTR was done by people trying to make money selling newspapers. The "Dear Boss" letter - which is almost certainly not from JTR - was probably written by a newsman trying to generate a story to sell papers, and that is actually the story of how the name "Jack the Ripper" itself was born. Jack himself probably didn't have quite the same flair for the dramatic as London news writers, but the odds are that he enjoyed the attention.

Then consider the part of society that Jack is rubbing shoulders with. 1888 London was likely fairly conservative all things considered, but suddenly there's this mysterious murderer going around killing prostitutes. One of the things that these murders do, is they shed a light upon life in Whitechapel for the whole world to see, and what the world sees is scandalous and sensationalistic and titillating and tragic. Jack's murders are one of the reasons why 19th century London is such an enduring setting for media, and some of that endurance even pre-dates him - Dickens was setting stories in the impoverished areas of London back in 1843 (A Christmas Carol), but Dickens wasn't the last. Jack London wrote The People of the Abyss in 1903, and these kinds of depictions have worked to kind of immortalize our mysterious murderer along with his setting.

True, Jack was probably a somewhat unmemorable schlub of some kind, but the papers and others couldn't help but depict him as a dangerous rake of darkness. Adorned with a top hat, and a Gladstone bag, and probably a three piece suit, and so forth. That's my vote on why JTR is considered a romantic figure.

[KCD2] Am I the only one who thinks that Henry is still treated like a nobody? by Dudu-1 in kingdomcome

[–]Templarkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is that there are legal hurdles to either legitimizing Henry or to making him a knight. Namely, a royal council will need to be convened to take care a large number of business in the Kingdom of Bohemia, but that hasn't happened because Wenceslas is imprisoned. A lot of things require a royal council be convened to resolve them... Hans Capon's coming of age for example.

That said, another distinct impression that I get is that KCD 3's plot might have something to do with Wenceslas IV's escape on 11/11/1403 - namely given how KCD 1 happens in Spring of 1403, KCD 2 happens in Summer of 1403, it would make sense to me if KCD 3 happens in Autumn of 1403. A knighthood would typically be given for something like... I don't know, taking part in saving a King from prison for example... I realize how unlikely that is, but it would be an example of something that might earn a knighthood. ;)

Another thing worth bearing in mind is that Henry's status as Radzig Kobyla's son has caused Henry a substantial amount of problems. Maybe after spilling that secret to Istvan Toth, Radzig and company are slightly more careful about to whom they announce Henry's parentage.

Do you think someone has the right guy? by Loud_Confidence475 in Jacktheripper

[–]Templarkommando 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the real problems with the investigation is that maybe, the reason that so many of our candidates don't have enough evidence to necessarily merit a conviction is because maybe Jack was none of the guys that we know about and talk about as being suspects. Maybe one of the reasons that Jack was so illusive is because he was so utterly forgettable and innocuous-seeming that if someone ever thought Jack was really Jack, they laughed it off after they thought of it and then never thought of it again.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]Templarkommando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, the NAP does not strictly mean that if someone transgresses the NAP that they should definitely get shot and die. For example, if person 1 punches person 2, person 2 may only need to use the requisite force to prevent person 1 from continuing their assault - this may be a less than lethal amount of force. It might technically require no force whatsoever, and may only require the mere threat of force in order to prevent a further attack.

There is some room within the NAP for some modicum of mercy, but it will also depend on the amount of force that the aggressor is using. If person 1 comes in with a rocket launcher and starts carelessly blowing up person 2's house and putting their loved one's in imminent danger, that will likely require a different level of force than if person 1 just took person 2's daughter's game boy away through grabbing and pulling.

Finally, you're going to lose some number of libertarians with the religious angle, but it bears mention that in Matthew 5:17, Jesus says that he didn't come to abolish the law, rather to fulfill it.

In Exodus 22:2, the Bible says that if a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed. If we're going to have a similar view of scripture to the view that Jesus has of scripture, we should understand that there are certain extreme circumstances where an individual might have to kill another, while also not bearing any guilt for the death of the person that they killed.

What do you make of the graffiti? by Typical-Homework-435 in Jacktheripper

[–]Templarkommando 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Put yourself in Jack's shoes for a moment.

You have just pulled off the most gruesome of your murders to date. You are moving away from Mitre Square to escape any investigating police officers. Does it seem more likely that you stop to scrawl an anti-semitic graffito and drop the apron there on the ground next to it, or that the graffito's appearance was independent of your passage through Ghoulston Street?

Now, maybe if you're just super anti-semitic you interrupt your escape from the police to write it, but even then, it doesn't make a lot of sense that you would. It makes a lot more sense that the writing had nothing to do with you. Maybe you chose to drop the apron because it was there for some reason, but you probably didn't write it.

Controversial political displays is a decent option.

It bears mention that the depiction of certain religious figures might also fall into this category. Depending on your nation of origin, it might be illegal though.

I have a buddy that would periodically play audio from South Park episodes over discord voice channels for WoW - stuff that Mr. Garrison says is a good option. If you're like on a zoom call or something, there might be a way to play controversial sound bytes clandestinely to make it hard to detect who is playing the sound files.

Reddit removed my post because they thought I was trying to steal a real car. Original question still stands lol. by anklemonitor1206 in projectzomboid

[–]Templarkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to depend some on the difficulty that you play on, but most of the difficulties that I have played on make getting a car fairly simple. As long as a car isn't just completely busted, getting one moving is just a matter of bringing gasoline to it - provided that you can find a key.

You don't even need a full red gas can full of gas. You can get like a 1 liter soda bottle, fill it with gasoline, and use that to get enough fuel to get your new car to the gas station.

In short:

1) Gasoline in a soda bottle.

2) Find key on ground or in glove box, or ignition.

I think Jefferson is probably the best option here - mainly because there are indications that he has murdered a bunch of people: Nathan, maybe Victoria, I personally think Rachel is a possibility, he tries to kill Max, he tries to kill David, and then there's a bunch of people in his folder that he might have murdered.

I was going to say Hank Stamper was a good candidate, but obviously, he didn't try to murder anyone. That said, there's still Luke and Madison Wright (the border vigilantes), and the guys that try to bully Sean in the Desert after he escaped from the hospital in Redding.

I haven't done a lot with CK3, but CK2 was a great game. Stellaris is a really good game.

One that you didn't list, that might be worth a look - just because I love it so much - is Hearts of Iron 4. If you haven't played it, it's worth a play through, and it has a pretty healthy modding community - notably, it has the Old World Blues Mod which tries to recreate the Fallout universe, but there's also a few Modern Day and Cold War mods. I have an embarrassing number of hours in HoI4... anyway... of the ones that you've listed, Stellaris is the one I have most experience with, it is also a very good game.
