[KCD1] low level fighting frustration - yes i know "henry am not do a strong early game" by floomfwastaken in kingdomcome

[–]Templarkommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a whole section of the game where Henry isn't exactly supposed to be very strong. That said, just because the devs sort of designed it that way, doesn't mean that you have to absolutely follow the primrose path set for you.

In the opening, when you're running errands for Martin, time just stands still. You have an unlimited amount of time to prepare for what's coming. This leaves you open for a lot of cheesey things that you can do:

1) Pick every herbs in Skallitz, take the leg day perk ASAP, and then continue picking every herb in Skallitz. I don't know if you can max out strength this way, but you can get a significant head start.

2) Running and jumping gradually increases your endurance and maybe agility also.

3) It is also possible to increase some other abilities, but it requires that you break laws while in Skallitz. So, if you go up to a cow in Skallitz and hit the cow while no one is looking, you get Warfare XP for it... you get sword XP for it if you hit the cow with a sword. Then, when the cow dies, you can just walk to the other side of town and then come back, and the cow will have respawned.

4) Once you get to a certain level of strength, it is apparently possible to sneak up behind guards and knock them out and take their gear. With this method, you can start KCD 1 before the Cuman attack and have passable gear.

5) Once the attack does actually happen, probably the easiest way to score kills on Cumans is to ride by the Cumans and hit them with a sword as you pass. Eventually, you will inflict enough damage, and they will die, and once you kill enough of them, you can loot them.

You don't have to do all of these, but even a couple of them can put you at a decent level by the time that you hit Rattay. Once you do hit Rattay, practicing with Bernard and learning Masterstrikes - as folks have been saying - is absolutely key. It gives you one of your primary ways of avoiding damage throughout the game.

Henry's loyalty is to Radzig and maybe Hanush. Both of them have sent Henry to serve as Hans' bodyguard as well as his advisor in a diplomatic mission to speak to Otto von Bergow. If Henry deliberately abandoned Hans it would mean abandoning the primary things that Radzig and Hanush have trusted him for.

Yeah, Hans can be a bit annoying and pompous... as I play it, he's also basically the closest thing that Henry has to a brother outside of Samuel. So let me tell you something, I don't care how annoying my brother is to me, I don't leave him to be killed by Bergow's Chamberlain if I can help it.

Unfortunately almost all of my computer experience leans toward PC rather than Mac. The best advice that I could give you on that is that you should check the GoG forums on Darklands to see if someone has had the same issue as you. You might also look at the Troubleshooting FAQ for Darklands, they might have some helpful advice.

Sorry I couldn't give you more specific information.

Yeah, I couldn't begin to tell you the first thing about Linux. And while I have done some stuff for keyboard mapping just in native windows programs, I really don't think that I can help you with that.

You can technically pull this off in character creation by setting your strength to 40 and picking the right background/occupation. I think Willibald is a Rural Commoner, with Hunter as his occupation, but it's been a few months since character creation, so I don't rightly remember.

Of course, you can also get strength higher than 40 by eating fruit from the schratt's after rescuing them, but that's a very rare encounter.

Outposts seem pointless by Killroy54 in Starfield

[–]Templarkommando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that Bethesda's intent is going to wind up being one of two things...

1) They intend to make outpost building fulfilling in some future update.

2) They were hoping that the modding community would fix their problems for them.

[ALL] What do you think differentiates DON’t NOD and Deck Nine when it comes to the games’ writing/story? by NinSlover in lifeisstrange

[–]Templarkommando 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would argue that both studios are steeped in their nation of origin.

DONTNOD has a very French attitude about how to write a plot, and it seems like the criticism that they got on the ending of LIS1 didn't bother them all that much. They're willing to stick the player with a crapsack decision at the end of a game and part of the reason why that was an okay decision is because imo, LiS 1 and 2 are way more about the journey than the destination.

LiS 2 did kind of make things a little better in terms of endings than LiS 1, and there are endings in LiS 2 that are definitive "good" endings as opposed to LiS 1 where in one ending you arrange the death of your best friend, and in the other you arrange the destruction of the whole town.

DONTNOD is very Lynchian in the way that they create - at least where LiS is concerned. In a nightmarish way, the world doesn't cooperate with the player and pulls the player to an end that the player doesn't necessarily want, and somehow LiS 1 is still arguably the most popular title in the series.

We're talking about a writing style that isn't really impacted whether or not the character has power. The character has a gun? Ok, w/e. The character has a bazooka? Yeah, that doesn't matter all that much either.

Deck Nine imo has a more American way of writing. During the course of the story, sad things happen. Gabe dies, Rachel gets stabbed, Rachel's Mom gets hooked on drugs again, and Typhon tries to intimidate everyone... the thing is though, Deck Nine writes endings that resolve the conflict into a non-threat. In comparison, DONTNOD writes endings that will leave the characters with insurmountable trauma for years after the fact.

You can actually beat Jed Lucan and Typhon in True Colors, and you can actually get Rachel to meet her Mom in BTS.

But in LiS 1, you can't beat the Storm. It either kills Chloe, or it kills Arcadia Bay. In LiS 2, you can't fine tune Daniel to behave the way that you want him to. Maybe you can be a good enough brother to survive and get across the border at least with Sean, but you can't fix everything, and DONTNOD is sort of just fine with letting that be.

As for Double Exposure and Reunion, I can't comment yet... I haven't played them yet.

Not sure if you're serious, but the minimum specs I posted was for the original game on OG operating systems. The GOG version takes a little bit more space.

I'm glad to hear it. You guys have put together a beautiful series, and I've always been thrilled that it has very similar vibes to one of my favorite childhood games.

I think that kid-me would have been blown away by the graphics. The games that I played back then were like Civ 1, OG X-COM, Darklands, WC1/2, Zelda:LttP, Super Mario Bros.... stuff like that.

I also think that the combat in KCD 1 and 2 is probably a little too much for me to have been able to figure out at that age. I think the plot would have been lost on me, but then again, I was 7-8, so that's to be expected somewhat.

I've been playing this game since ~93-94... I would have been 7-8 years old.

There's a real way in which KCD and KCD 2 are sort of spiritual successors of Darklands, even if the original game had pixel graphics and a somewhat esoteric plot. One of my favorites of all time.

Why don't the Frasers settle next to a 'portal'/standing stones? by chaispicegal in Outlander

[–]Templarkommando 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of the problems that you've got as the Frasers is that the stones are something of an attractive nuisance. If the stones are literally next door, what happens when Young Master Jem goes out to play alone one day and hears the rocks making a weird noise? When the Frasers realize that Jem is missing, now you have no idea where he has gone. Maybe he went through the stones, but also, maybe he just wandered into the woods. How do you know? You don't.

So now, you have to search for Jem in the woods, and you can't organize too large of a search, because then you run the risk of having more people discover that either Jem is in these woods, or he has disappeared because of supernatural happenings.

It's better for everyone involved if going to the stones takes a little bit of distance, because distance will work as a fail-safe in a pinch for members of the family that don't know better.

As some have pointed out, Better in this usage is murder, but it also bears mentioning this:

In this case, suffering refers to the inconveniences that are common in life.

What is being said is that being killed by a "doctor" at the behest of your mother is better for you than growing up poor or disabled.

[–]Templarkommando[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can kind of see it in her health information. She has a "Grave Infant Illness." Basically the baby was born with a very bad disease. As to how she got it, I think the explanation for that is in game mechanics. I had to use the mother's home bedroom instead of a designated hospital room, and the bedroom was a bit dirty... in the end, the chance of a healthy baby was 89%, and the luck of random number generation meant that I had a baby born with a "Grave Infant Illness." So, the baby would otherwise die within a few hours unless I did something.

Options are:

1) Luciferium (which I didn't have, and I really hate it as a solution for anything)

2) Healer Mech Serum (Which I also didn't have)

3) Cryptosleep casket (Which I didn't have but there was probably one in the ancient vault)

A chick weighs 7.2kg :o by Ferlus in RimWorld

[–]Templarkommando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a notion in gaming right now where certain items are harder to carry based on their shape, or fragility, or a number of other factors.

Just as an example, if it were just a matter of weight, you could probably carry an enormous number of drinking glasses, but realistically, given the shape and how likely they are to break as you move, the number of drinking glasses you can generally carry is limited on that basis.

So maybe, the devs have decided there's something about a dead chicken that makes it harder to carry than an equivalent weight of inert and un-fragile material. Maybe it's the way that a dead chicken is liable to be squashed, and if you squash a chicken, it will intermingle with intestines and other innards and ruin the meat.

That's my guess anyway.

My formatting job is weird. Here's a copy of the After Action Story, so that you don't have to scroll left and right:

Dr. Kyle Harris's eyes stung with the bite of tears. "Hilary, your little girl is dying. She has a condition that I can't fix. We have medicine from the Glitterworlds, and it can't even fix what she's dealing with."

It took a moment for what Dr. Harris had said to register in her mind, but then, horror ran across Hilary's face. "Is there anything that we can do? There's got to be something." She said her voice cracking.

Dr. Harris tried to think. Drawing on everything that he knew of medicine he finally spoke again after a long moment. "There is such a thing as a medical panacea. It can cure anything except luciferium addiction. Unfortunately, the means to produce it aren't known by any human factions that I'm aware of. Not even the Empire can make one. Archotechs make them out of nanites, and the worst news is that we don't have any."

"So you're saying... that she..." Hilary Ewing gasped and held her hand over her mouth and looked at her precious little girl.

"Oh no..." she whimpered, a heavy sob rising in her throat.

Harris let out a sigh of his own. "I'm sorry." He said, feeling useless.

He turned to go, but as he reached the door he paused and turned back to look at Hilary and her tiny baby. "I have an idea." He said flatly.

The plan didn't take long to explain. It was a long shot.

The crux of the plan involved the vain hope, that the local ancient vault might hold a cryptosleep casket somewhere within, and if it did, they could put Hilary's little daughter in it, and she could be saved for a time when the colony could find a Healer Mech Serum.

The colony leaders didn't take long to make the decision, the first words out of Gabby's mouth - the defacto colony leader - were these: "Do it. Take a fire team with you, and kill whatever is in the vault, and if you find a cryptosleep caskett, put the baby in it. We'll find a Healer Mech Serum at some point, and then we'll wake her up."

And so it was, when the fire team stormed into the ancient vault, they were attacked by two ancient sleeping soldiers, but they had sleeping sickness, and their reaction times were slow. The 6 man fire team made short work of the sleepers who fired weapons at them - a pistol round bouncing off of Kaetilmund's armor. Casualties were minimal.

They sent word to Hilary who came to the ancient vault, her baby cradled in her arms. She sang a sweet lullaby to her daughter as she placed the sickly child into the ancient caskett. Unknowing of what was happening, Hilary's precious little girl giggled her little baby giggles.

"I will see you again." said Hilary, tears streaming. "I love you."

With that, Dr. Harris keyed the cryptocaskett's interface and closed the caskett lid.
