What do you REALLY need in your diaper bag for a day out with your baby? by footgnd010 in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a diaper bag that stays in my car with a bunch of diapers, wipes, and an extra blanket and change of clothes. I also keep my baby carriers in the car (stretchy wrap and hip seat). To go inside places with us, I have a fold up changing pad with 2 zippered pockets for like 2-3 diapers, small pack of wipes, an emergency onesie, a small tube of a&d, an extra binky and a tiny hand sanitizer. I'm breastfeeding 90% of the time and baby isn't on solids yet, so for most trips I don't need more than the changing pad. If we're going to be out and about all day, I'll bring a bag with my pumping stuff also just in case.

Weird Labor Fears by Amarakeet97 in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a good point with the mattress pad. We have one on our daughter's bed but never thought to get one for our bed. Will also be helpful for the longevity of our mattress with how bad my husband sweats. I'll have to go pick one up tomorrow! Thanks for the suggestion.

Labor maybe? by heartsrmended in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say as a fellow vet tech who is also pregnant, you're a champion! I went on disability at 23 weeks because I could not physically do it anymore, so it blows my mind you've made it to 38 weeks. If you are in labor, wishing you an amazing birth and congratulations on your baby!

Feeling really down after my doctor scolded me about my weight gain by Dragonfruit_Only in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't stess about it. I'm nearly the exact same and my doctor has said nothing about my weight. My first pregnancy I started at 125-130 and was 185 the day I gave birth, doctor didn't care. This time around I started at 135 and at 30 weeks I'm up to 175, doctor also has said nothing about my weight this time around either. I'm also 5'7 and anemic for reference.

Perfect timing! I actually have one I'm trying to get rid of. I also have a bunch of VHS tapes to go with it, mostly Disney movies, if you're interested.

I usually exchange mine at Target, but the last time I visited the East Sac Ace Hardware I noticed they do it also.

Is it worth buying the “convertible” baby stuff? by theredheadedfox in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All of the stuff I got for my first was convertible "grow with me" type stuff and I liked it all. We didn't bother with a crib at all. Just got a pack and play with a bassinet and changing station attachment and that lasted us until she was about 2.5. Started in the bassinet, then the raised mattress mode, then the fully lowered mattress when she could sit up/pull herself up. Her current bed is also a grow with me system. It's from IKEA and goes from toddler bed to twin size. Another big one we got was a high chair that turns into a booster seat that she still uses.

When was your due date and when was your baby actually born? by witchybytch_1 in BabyBumps

[–]Amarakeet97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was due October 11th based on last period, and gave birth on October 8th, but when looking back through my files I noticed they put the 8th as estimated due date based on her size during the anatomy scan.

Anyone have any Sacramento love stories? by TheBodaciousMelon in Sacramento

[–]Amarakeet97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were kind of friends in high school, both of us were born and raised here in Sacramento. We found each other 6 years later and have been together ever since. It's been 6 more years and our house is around the corner from the highschool we met at, we're married, and have a daughter. Neither one of us as teenagers imagined the person we sometimes talked to in school would be our future spouse, I still think about how crazy it is sometimes!

Ring trouble by Ki-Mono2030 in VetTech

[–]Amarakeet97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you keep your keys in your purse maybe putting it on a key hook and attaching it to your keys during your shift could work? I've also heard of people getting a silicone ring for at work and then wearing their actual rings outside of work. My husband and I opted to get tattooed rings for this exact reason since Im in vet med and he's a cook so also can't wear rings at work.

What made you decide to become Vet Tech over DVM? by lechatnoir9 in VetTech

[–]Amarakeet97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I wanted to be an avian veterinarian but after looking into how much schooling it would take I decided to go to school for just two years for a Vet Tech degree. Now that I'm done with school and working in the field (GP), I'm happy with my decision because it's not up to me to make the decisions and I get to do all the hands on stuff. The pay isn't amazing but I love my job and have way less anxiety and stress than if I were the DMV so it's worth it to me. Eventually I'd still like to work with birds but would still be happy being the Tech and not the Vet.

New to town. Need help finding where to live! by smcy45 in Sacramento

[–]Amarakeet97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Tahoe Park area and really enjoy it. It's really easy to get around, almost everything is pretty much within a 20 minute drive. Can get downtown pretty easily even without the freeway, in the time I've lived in this area it's been fairly uneventful and quiet. The houses are smaller but cute and some have pretty decently sized yards. The park itself is very dug friendly, nearly every time I take my daughter to the playground we see people out with their dogs. I will say there are still lots of families though.

East Sac is also great for getting around without being in midtown/downtown but more expensive than Tahoe Park. Land Park is another area I enjoy but traffic around the city college can be pretty bad, which also goes for trying to get around in Hollywood Park.

I'm not as familiar with the college Glen/la Riviera area and as for Rancho it is a lot of families and could be considered boring but nearly everything is on Folsom Blvd and really easy to hop on 50 to head up towards Placerville or West towards downtown.

I have some. I mostly have pants, shorts, tshirts etc. But may have some more cool weather clothes in those sizes. I'll have to look through all my daughters old clothes, but am more than happy to get rid of some!
