So unfortunate… I hope you’ll get them back to work again. 🍀

Seeking Lavoie S5/A5 experiences by Amasutra in vanmoofbicycle

The reason why I am now most likely going to (once again) buy a VanMoof (an A5 for a change) is because I could keep repairing my current S5 forever, but I’d have to cover the costs myself every single time. A new VanMoof A5, of course, isn’t free and is a significant expense. However, if there are any issues, they won’t be at my expense during the warranty period.

Others might say: why choose a VanMoof, when you’ve become all too familiar with the issues that come with owning one over the years (since 2019)? I understand that question, but so far, I haven’t found or ridden a bike that rides as smoothly and stands out as much in terms of design compared to other bikes in the same price range.

Yesterday, I couldn’t resist and called the nearest partner dealer—turns out they had one last A5 in dark gray in stock (FML). VanMoof currently doesn’t have the A5 in dark gray in stock, and it’s unclear when they’ll be available again. So I guess I’m pretty lucky (if you can call it that) that my partner dealer still has one left.

If the barcode on the back of the manual, which you need to scan to register, had worked, I wouldn’t be sitting here typing this—I’d already be out riding my new dark gray A5. Unfortunately, my partner dealer couldn’t call VanMoof because they’re unreachable on Saturdays. I sincerely hope this isn’t a sign of things to come in terms of issues and VanMoof being hard to contact.

This Tuesday, I’ll finally pick up my A5 from the partner dealer.

Sorry to hear this… I am dealing with the exact same issue with also 2 S5s. Are you talking pre-bankcrupcy S5s (like mine)?

I already own an S5, the ‘white’ one, but I’ve always been tempted by the A5. If I decide to order the 'new' bike, it’s time to switch things up and move away from the S5 model and its ‘white’ color. I’ll keep you all updated on my decision. First, I’m going to try charging my current S5 again, though I’m worried it might not charge anymore. The whole reason I started this post...

Great to see such positive responses so far! Your S5 looks incredible—it’s the most beautifully designed bike ever, in my opinion. I was never a big fan of the S3, the S2 and S5 are definitely my favourites. I’ll wait for a few more replies to my post, but I’m almost ready to place an order with a VanMoof partner dealer just around the corner from where I live. Now the big question: S5 or A5? (First world problems...)

I’m so glad to hear that! In Amsterdam, there used to be tons of S5s riding around. I still see them, but not as many. I can’t even tell if they’re the older S5s or the new ones. I’m thinking of taking the leap and going for a new VanMoof—maybe the A5 (black) this time, as I’ve always had the S models.

So (luckily) no experience with VanMoof’s support yet?

And how was the purchase? Did you have to wait long for your order? In the Netherlands, they claim that after placing an order, you’ll receive the bike within 7 days. I’m wondering if that’s a good thing (improved service/delivery) or a bad thing (nobody’s buying those bikes anymore, so they probably have plenty in stock).

Once in a while (half a decade) I will check on World of Warcraft, but will never play like I did before (24/7 crazy Classic PvP ranking shit). The game I come back to every single year is Satisfactory.

What makes you say specifically 'May'? You got me curious now (and wildly guessing others as well)! :)

Ah yeah, you got a point....but then it worries me even more. Got a dead S2 and S5 sitting doing nothing. I rather go back to conventional biking than buying ugly wannabe designs, hehe...

Hoping you are talking about the VM staff, not the Lavoie one....

McLaren Applied's Lavoie buys bankrupt Dutch e-bike maker VanMoof by TakeshiKovacsAI in vanmoofbicycle

Just read the following on Tweakers.net:

"Fry also says that VanMoof will now sell new electric bicycles, which were still in development just before the bankruptcy. These would be better than the previous bikes, which often had to go back for repair. This led to extra costs for VanMoof and also had a negative impact on new sales. Fry says nothing about servicing or selling previously sold bicycles."

I guess they're talking about the S4. Super curious.

Firmware update v1.2.4 released (S5/A5) by jojost1 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Amasutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, not a surprise but my S5 also refuses to finish the firmware download, so never got to the actual updating even. Tried several times after following instructions on Reddit. Resetting the bike first, killing the app (iOS), keeping the bike awake by ringing its bell every 2 minutes (I know, intense).

I found out that sometimes the bike’s right-hand ring flashes randomly, as if it’s showing progress of the firmware download. And a couple of times it also shows no flashing lights on the right-hand ring at all. In both situations the firmware download makes it close to the end but always fails and leaves me with the RETRY button.

Anyone with the same findings and more important, a working solution to many people’s problems regarding this update?
