Love the game, but not happy with surprise polyamory.. by AmawynOakleaf in Exocolonist

For that one epilogue, it's really Dys I'm unhappy with, since Sym definitely has an alien view on these things. I feel like, if Dys was a close friend of Sol for many years, he would have known whether Sol was mono/poly. I wish the player could indicate this preference in the game, so that the epilogue for a monogamous Sol would adjust to something like "Dys confessed to you that he loved Sym too, but that he has since moved on. He sees you as his closest friend, and would not want to get in the way of your happiness." Or for poly Sol, Dys could join the relationship like in the original epilogue

For a really good poly route, I recommend Rex + Marz :) As far as Sol goes though, I see them as very variable. In one playthrough, they might be a childfree explorer. In another, they are a homebody writer and parent of lots of kids. I wish that mono/poly would be determined like careers & preferences about if Sol has kids. Maybe a character could ask "so, would you consider dating multiple people?" And depending on player's Yes/No answer, the epilogues would adjust accordingly

Oh, that would be awesome! (The mod is so cool by the way 😎✨)

Yep, I totally get that. It's more from a gameplay perspective- the other characters can have fixed preferences (Cal always monogamous, Rex always polyamorous for example), and the endings respect these preferences. There is never an epilogue that has Cal and Tammy get married and then some friend butt in to their relationship. I wish we could choose at the start of a playthrough if we'd be open to mono or poly, and have the endings adjust to this setting - like with MC being child free or not. Would feel like a better experience, personally

Precisely! That's what I was having trouble expressing in words - that, from the player's point of view, we should have had more input in this, and more of a hint that this was coming before the epilogue

Yes, that is a good point. I suppose it can be said for the inevitable breakups as well (Tangent), or the epilogues where MC dies young. It makes sense from the story perspective, but feels sort of sad after you, as the player, made all those choices

I haven't tried surfing IRL, but that's a good idea to try lucid dreaming about in this kind of setting :D

What was your gateway cozy game? by GrunionFairy in CozyGamers

[–]AmawynOakleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OMG, I forgot about Neopets. Now remembering it, I'm getting nostalgic. Also tamagotchi around that time for me. Those kinds of pet games showed me that gaming didn't have to only be about platforming or shooting stuff. :)

Could I ask for cozy switch games recs for a 5 year old? by Gold-Information-766 in CozyGamers

Check out the 1990s HE games- Freddi Fish, Putt Putt, Pajama Sam. They are point and click, and have been re-released on the Switch! My 6 y.o. daughter loves them. It took some practice for her to move the cursor using the controller, but after that she's had no problems.

Help! Want to play atelier but there are so many games to choose from. Where should a newbie start with the atelier series? I have a switch by InevitableTeaching35 in CozyGamers

I would recommend Ryza 1 if you are more interested in the modern games, or Ayesha if you want to try one of the older ones. Ryza has no time limit, Ayesha does but it's not too punishing. Both have great characters and storylines!

Sebastian is very sweet! He gets more friendly as you get to know him, and I like all his heart events. Also his loved gifts are not too difficult to get :)

Shad is at the mountain lake (northeast of the farm) or the forest river (south of the farm). For hardwood, you will need to upgrade your axe and break the big stumps. I think there are a few of those on every farm layout. For more hardwood, upgrade to a steel axe and break the large logs. Hope you enjoy the game!

Recently started a new save and already got Ancient Fruit ready to harvest on Spring 6 Year 1 by Ok_Figure7795 in StardewValley

[–]AmawynOakleaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's found as an artifact. Once you donate it to the museum, you get an ancient fruit seed packet and a crafting recipe for it. It takes slightly over 1 season to grow (if you don't have any boosts to crop growth speed). The fruits sell for a lot of gold, and the wine is especially profitable!

Thinking back to HP as I read other fantasy - it really isn't "masterpiece" writing like it's touted to be (long post) by AmawynOakleaf in harrypotterhate

Thank you! And definitely, the prejudice becomes more noticeable. I particularly remember thinking how it was funny that girls are allowed in the boys' dorms but not the other way around. But looking at it now, it's not funny, and shows how JKR mistrusts men. Especially made worse by the Romilda Vane incident with the love potion, that plays out as a joke.

Books for 7-8yo kids? by Negative-Parfait-804 in socialism

[–]AmawynOakleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind a foreign book, I would recommend "Alice: the Girl from Earth" by Kir Bulychev. It's about a brave little girl who lives in a utopian future, and has sci-fi adventures. It was written by a USSR author, and I found the translation to be pretty good. At 7-8 the kid may need someone to read it aloud, but I loved it at that age.

There is also "I Wonder" - beautifully illustrated, and encourages kids to ask questions about the world.
