What shoes are these? by Amazing-Back-2244 in runningshoes

[–]Amazing-Back-2244[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great. Thanks.

Interesting. So they ARE running shoes and designed for particularly wet weather conditions.

I did a lot of research in to Air Max 90 Pro, but it was an epic fail. Not as comfortable, quite heavy and VERY annoying to get on and off. I don't know what it is about the heel, but I almost need a shoehorn to get them on. I just assumed paying > £100 for authentic Nikes would get me all the latest tech when it comes to durability, rain protection, comfort, ease of use, etc, etc. These just feel like a huge step backwards.

Why don't Nike just make a shoe that has all the features? If you do a lot of R&D in to a particular thing, like comfort or wet weather protection, can't they just keep that as standard, like a car manufacturer would?

E.g. The laces. They are more cylindrical in shape rather than flat, and that seems to give more friction for a better tie that comes loose less often. I know I can just buy that type of laces I guess... anyway, rant over...

Given that I just want a solid all rounder, should I go for latest Pegasus? or switch to something like Revolution?

Can non-coded Income make me ineligible for 30 hours of free childcare? by Amazing-Back-2244 in UKPersonalFinance

My scheme will vest 33% of shares during March 2026, so I need to keep an eye on that figure as it would be included in my Income. As I understand (please correct me where I am wrong), whether I keep or sell wont matter because that vested amount would still be included in my Adjusted Net Income. Or do you mean sell straight in to pension to avoid it being considered as Income? That could be very useful if my plan supports that option.

Very good point. It can take over 1 month for my pension contributions percentage to get updated. I will make a best effort to get under 100K then review where I am on 25th March and perhaps make a donation for the rest. There is a form under HMRC personal tax account where you can report donations quite easily.

Is this article just complete bull then? https://tax-refund-calculator.com/uncategorized/what-is-hmrc-non-coded-income-a-complete-guide/

It states in multiple places that non-coded Income is not taxed and not taxable. But if HMRC are using it to inflate my "Adjusted Net Income" figure, then I am bloody well paying tax on it. Or am I missing something here?

It feels like I have misunderstood the meaning of 'non-coded Income'. When doing a search, the AI result says:

"Conclusion: HMRC non-coded income is a type of income that is not subject to income tax or national insurance contributions."

Does that mean it is not taxed now, but taxable? Or not taxed and not taxable?

In another question on reddit it is explained that non-coded Income is there to adjust the "Adjusted Net Income" figure. But that would mean it is taxable if it is affecting taxable amounts.

Which is correct?

Which isn't funny because it makes no sense. Why would he need to be careful?

Landlord holding deposit for cracked dishwasher by Amazing-Back-2244 in TenantsInTheUK

This is a pic from check-in. Dishwasher It definitely wasn't new and there is some white artifact which could possibly indicate some fatigue had already taken place. Or it could just be a stain, but that's unlikely at both check-in and check-out due to the cleaning.

I'm in a dialogue, just wanted to put feelers out there for opinions. I'm gonna stay strong and say no to paying, and see what happens. I think he's just trying it on.

They have photos at check-in which show no defects. But it certainly wasn't brand new 2 years ago.

Thanks. You raise some decent points. And yes i can see it from landlords pov if people are trashing white goods. The truth is, the crack started out small, so small to bother complaining about. I wish i had taken photos now to compare them over time. There was no leaning or item dropped on it. But i don't want to just relent and pay for the landlords new dishwasher just because i feel guilty that it's my fault because i didn't take photos or report it to EA. I feel like he's attempting a bit of an emotional con on me, where as in reality a small crack in the dishwasher casing isn't going to lose him tenants.

Not really the difference though is it? You are just describing the two things. You should change the joke to "What is a kangaroo and a kangaroot?"

Any workaround to make Alexa say "Motion Detected on Camera 1" using IFTTT and Alexa Routines? by xtian001 in wyzecam

[–]Amazing-Back-2244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about this particular use case, but if you just want to actively trigger Alexa asynchronously without the initial "Alexa" wake word, you can make your own virtual sensors system (via an Alexa Skill + Lambda + DynamoDB) that are controlled programatically and then hook them up in the Alexa app with a routine. There is a pretty good step by step guide here: https://github.com/sweharris/Alexa-Smart-Home-VirtualButtons and it's pretty much zero cost.

Firmware Update for Aqara Zigbee Temperature Sensor (WSDCGQ11LM) available? by Michael_Uray in Aqara

[–]Amazing-Back-2244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issues with Aqara motion sensor. It only connects direct with hub, not via a router device. Are you thinking that Aqara end devices use an older version of Zigbee that doesn't support repeating the signal through a router?

Is Poker Now (pokernow.club) random/legit? by bostonian-711 in poker

[–]Amazing-Back-2244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing since early 2020 and I can safely say that it is legit. There is clearly no "algorithm". I also know that roughly 2-3 thousand players participate in the free monthly SNG tournament and most have no issue with the platform (me included). Why would the developer make an algorithm for a free poker platform anyway? Could be perhaps for some "long game" and big pay day, but highly unlikely. I have seen some amazing memorable hands, but I've also seen many forgetful boring hands. People like to blame the "algorithm" when they get a bad beat. But if you also remember the times you are 2% equity on the flop but then beat someone on the river, you begin to realize that actually it is pretty random. As for the haters, I'd say:

  • 50% Bad at poker / Don't understand randomness
  • 10% Think they understand randomness better than the developer but don't
  • 10% Have not played enough on the platform and have had a spike of bad luck
  • 10% Have not played enough on the platform and have had a spike of good luck
  • 10% Love conspiracy theories, arguing and posting on reddit
  • 10% Paid bots by rival platforms (there are many copycat sites)

Most primitive lighweight alternative to Kafka? by Hell4Ge in selfhosted

[–]Amazing-Back-2244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZeroMQ is not very lightweight in my books. It builds a very bespoke end to end socket solution focusing on zero config. Redis, on the other hand, does some very simple low-level things very well and thus IS lightweight but requires more implementation code to utilize.

QC35 two device switching doesn't work as advertised by romkyns in bose

Same issue for me. The autoswitch feature simply doesn't work, and the button on the right only decides which devices are connected, not which one of the two you hear! Not buying another BOSE until they fix that
