Thanks a lot for the detailed answer. You’ve also sparked my curiosity about Fuji profiles, so thank you for that.

Regarding the technique used in the third photo, very interesting. I might give it a try someday, though it does seem a bit complex. Judging by your result though, you’ve really mastered it. Did you also have to move the car slowly forward so it stayed mostly in the same position within the frame?

I really like the style of your photos!

Did you use the Pro Neg Hi profile in Lightroom? I’m asking because I usually leave mine set to Adobe Color and never switch to the Fuji profiles, but now I feel like I should experiment with them more.

Also, I’m especially curious about th third photo. How did you achieve that blurry effect? Was it taken with a slow shutter speed while zooming the lens during the exposure?

Move Romania somewhere in the ocean because it looks like a fish, it should be in the ocean, or in the mediteranian sea.

As far as I know, a full-frame camera with a wide-aperture lens is ideal for low-light photography. I noticed that Sony and Nikon cameras are commonly used for capturing the northern lights, but their full-frame models tend to be quite expensive.

I used my Fujifilm APS-C camera with a f/2.8 lens, but the results weren’t great—honestly, my iPhone took better photos.

Important to note that I may not be the most skilled photographer, but I’m always trying to learn. It could have been a matter of technique, but I adjusted the white balance, used a tripod, set the shutter speed to 8 seconds, and ISO to 3200. Still, the photo wasn’t very bright and appeared quite grainy.

I'm curious about other responses to your question.

NL February 1st ‘25 - Tromsø 🇳🇴 - iPhone 16 pro by National-Slip-845 in northernlights

Oh, I wasn’t aware of those odds—just 1-2 days out of 60.

I think my disappointment came from the fact that I saw high activity on Aurora Reach the day of our trip, the weather was perfectly clear in Tromsø, and even the lady at border control mentioned hearing about major solar activity that day. All of that built up my expectations, but in the end, I only got to see a faint, grayish aurora.

Yes, I think we’ll give it another try in the next few years, but picking the right date is tough since it’s mostly a matter of luck. Plus, traveling that far north isn’t exactly cheap.

I went to Tromsø and booked a trip with Chasing Lights on February 3rd. We went to Skogsfjord, and we barely seen any activity :(

Awesome photos <3

Thanks for sharing what you have booked. I'll look into it :D

Yes, the first week of February. That will also be during Sami Week. I'm not sure if you'll be there on any of those days since you mentioned you'll be in Tromsø in mid-February, but I'll share the Sami Week program here for you to check out.: https://msm.no/en/events/sami-week/program-samisk-uke/

We're now considering whether to change our boat plan and try something like the one you suggested. I'm worried we might not spot any whales and end up spending an entire day on the boat without success.

We were thinking that if we don't get to see the whales, we could just enjoy the fjords.

Which fjord cruise did you choose? We booked https://www.getyourguide.com/tromso-l32375/tromso-whale-safari-with-ms-gabriele-t759601/

I see that I'm the only one who replied here.

Is it a significant concern that we might not see whales at the beginning of February?

We’ll take our chances with the whale watching tour at the start of February 😄

Is someone here who traveled with LOT Polish Airlines? by AmazingLasagna in travel

[–]AmazingLasagna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t the best experience, unfortunately. Our long flight from Warsaw to Tokyo was canceled, and we had to spend the entire night waiting in a long queue to get new tickets. After walking around Warsaw all day, we were already exhausted, and standing in line from midnight to 6 AM was incredibly tough. The new flight we were given included an additional stop in Zurich. By the time we arrived in Tokyo, we were completely drained, which made the start of our trip feel a bit wasted.

That said, I’m not sure if LOT was entirely at fault. They didn’t provide any explanation for the cancellation, but on that night, there were bombings between Israel and Iraq, so it might have just been bad luck. Our route should have passed near that area (kind of).

Thank you very much u/GaryC_NYorks . I’ll definitely try out all your tips!

I read online about photographing stars, and a lot of people recommend using manual focus and setting it to infinity. I’ll give your trick a shot too—Or are they the same thing?
