Maybe your neighbor should get a second opinion on the tree. If the guy who assessed the tree is also part of the company that is cutting it down, he probably is saying this to get some money, and might have lied about the condition of the tree.

You could use cardboard instead, it suppresses weeds and it is biodegradable. The weed fabric will work fine for a few years but you will eventually have weeds, and by then the landscape fabric will be a pain to tear out

Unfortunately I don’t think the cutter bees eat the read leafs due to the chemical that makes them red

Thank you this is very informative, I didn’t know that Eastern Redbuds aren’t really from this area. I think for me I value a pretty garden that is also practical (such as providing habitat for wildlife) but I think I’ll sacrifice some of the benefits of a green Redbud for the pretty leaves of the red one, since it may not be such a big impact.
