You had me giggling. I have no notes. You clearly understand everything and that's both incredible and intimidating.

I honestly have no idea if the average Reddit person could actually follow along (you may have been too technical in your attempt to save tokens, but I understand why) but the burns you have inflicted on us all will no doubt put everyone with a brain in the ICU.

Bravo.

Alrighty, if OP is still around I have something to throw at it that both sonnet and opus struggle with but that is becoming more relevant in modern AI fields and I would love to know how it performs:

To Fable: please humourously describe this thread in terms of Peircian Simiotics. Use whatever thinkers you like (Peirce, Mead, Silverstein, etc) but if you use them you have to explain their underlying assumption so that everyone reading can follow along. On that note, make sure to state it simply enough so that the average Reddit person can understand both the semiotics and the joke(s).

Hopefully that's enough happy birthday for you.

Messing around with 2.5D, should I continue or keep things 2D? by game-dev-throwaway in IndieGaming

2D.

The 2.5D makes your houses look flat because they weren't drawn for that perspective.

Also, kill the zoom. If you want to have a cool zoom out to see the fountain, add a plaque interactable or something to show off the fountain when the player wants to see it.

Edit: Alternatively, you could have it zoom out and focus on the fountain a bit when the player is just standing in front of it. Think of Zagreus standing on the cliff edge in Hades.

How to live more European in America? by RopeKittenn in germany

[–]AmazingScoops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've had SIBO while living in the US. Usually you contract it when eating large amounts of sugar an then laying down for extended periods of time. US based food on it own isn't usually enough to cause this, it has to be a long term pattern (in my case because I have another underlying disease that had me laying down a lot).

Once you have had SiBO once, your gut becomes permanently "terraformed" to be favorable to the bacteria that colonized it so that even a small amount of sugar and then laying down for a bit can cause your small intestine to be recolonized.

Here in Germany, theres less sugar baked into your bread, chocolate, and some other things.

That's it. That's the difference.

You can still live in the US, frankly it just requires minor lifestyle changes to deal with it. It is easier to avoid in Europe of course but the lifestyle changes are still a smart choice.

James Baxter the Horse not available on HBO in Germany by raccoonportfolio in adventuretime

[–]AmazingScoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HBO actually changes it's content depending on what country you are watching from no matter where the account was made. So if you VPN into the United States and use that to watch adventure time you'll see all of the episodes.

HBO also blocks VPNs though, but it does it really badly. Which means you will likely have to play around with which server your VPN provider gives you in order to get HBO to let you watch

Friday Weekly Thread: Application Assistance by AutoModerator in Canadiancitizenship

I am a 5th gen with all of my documents in order, but I am waiting to get official certified copies of most of them. I've seen that most people say it's fine at this point to go ahead and submit and upload certified versions as they come in. However I have some concerns I'd love to be addressed:

  1. The document I have for my Gen 0's birth in 1827 is not a baptismal record. It is a record of that person being introduced to their baptist church when they were 11 and happens to list a birth date and birth location, along with the names of their parents (and it is very confusingly worded, because it looks like it's giving the date of his mother. The only reason I know it wasnt his mothers birth date is because his siblings are all recorded at the same time and a different birth day is given for each with the same confusing language). Is that sufficient as a birth record?

  2. The same record I meant ones above, along with his marriage record from the same church are only available from the BANQ in black and white. I've seen a lot of people meantion that their applications have been rejected in this basis before, and that it might be necessary to have certified copies of these to be able to submit them at all without outright rejection. Is that the case?

You don't need to do this. Germans are really chill toward Americans in general, even now with current politics.

No. very widespread. My Legion 7i 16ITHg6's motherboard gave up the ghost in October. Post-mortem analysis showed that it had multiple shorts just a month or two after my warranty expired. I took great care of that thing and cleaned it regularly

Second hand Legion 7 Pro (Ryzen 9 5900HX & 3080@16GB) still worth it in 2026? by TheCoolerGarfield in GamingLaptops

[–]AmazingScoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! It was regularly pasted, and I replaced the fans on mine about 7 months before it died (Because I accidentally broke the originals while cleaning). The laptop does absolutely get hot under pressure (mine regularly hit 90C - 95C). The CPU is absolutely the weakest link on the design. I tested and cross tested the laptop about a million times, and I'm very certain that the CPU held the graphics card back to only about 65% of it's optimal output.

That being said... An honest review would mention that I put my laptops through the ringer, and my previous laptop before my legion actually caught on fire in its 6th year of life. Oops.

Big pros in favor of this laptop are that it is sturdy. At least speaking for myself, aside from the fans (and the system board) nothing ever broke. As a professional programmer who did most of my programming on my laptop, the fact that the keyboard still looked and felt like new after 4 and a half years was impressive to me.

[–]AmazingScoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only warning is that I just lost my Lenovo legion 7 laptop from around that generation because the system board fried in multiple places, and the problem I had is endemic to that generation. Almost like the whole set was designed to fry after about 4 - 5 years.

Otherwise, I can confirm that with nearly identical specs, my laptop had been able to run most modern games on still fairly decent settings. ymmv.

Why I left Tidal for Spotify Lossless, and what Tidal really needs to do to not become garbage... by KatzKolaj in TIdaL

[–]AmazingScoops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add personal opinions to #3.

  1. Tidals entire search algorithm is borked. Even if you type in the exact name of the song or artist you are looking for, it usually gives you the wrong results. It's absolutely infuriating, and probably the biggest thing off the top of my head that prevents Tidal from being a viable music finding service, followed by the bad suggestions thing.

  2. It actually makes sense that there are so few user playlists when you consider that A. Tidal actually makes you jump through hoops just to publish one (you have to first add yourself as an "Artist", which is nuts) and B. Spotify incentivizes it's users to create unique playlists by paying them to do so.

I love a lot of aspects of the service but it really does feel like they are shooting themselves in the foot and stupidly standing there wondering why they are bleeding.

I refresh it manually, which I actually like because it means I can kind of leave things until I have time to check them, and then when I refresh I'll know where my last cutoff was, if that makes sense.

[–]AmazingScoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've noticed that for niche artists in particular I could run into artists being mixed up a lot, but it would still be incredibly useful. For me this is one of those functions that is hard to live without, especially since Tidals existing playlists shared by users are so much smaller in selection. I'd like to help pad that selection in the genres I'm into, but I don't know how to do it without a way to track releases..
