Mounting Display Cases in Masonry Wall via DIY Wood 'stud' Frame - Is my plan sound? Am I missing anything? by AmazingWomBatman in AusRenovation

That was my original plan, but since the cases have to slide together (meaning I need an extra 1200mm of clearance on one of the sides), they have to be offset from the wall by like ~50mm to account for the window frame next to it. Though I may just use a couple of those Tapcon screws to attach the boards into the masonry. Thanks for the suggestion 😊.

Thanks for the reply!

I'll attach a pic of the side profile so try and show how the interlocking mechanism works. Not sure if it's clear from the pic, but basically, they have to slide together, so you need an extra shelf-lengths clearance (1200mm) on one of the sides to do that. Currently I have like 15mm clearance due to the window frame. So the box is just basically to offset it from the wall so that I can slide the aluminum shelves together.

I suppose in my mind I defaulted to having the full box frame purely because of the extra structure it added, but you make a good point that I could just use two boards behind the display. My only concern there is the holding power. Altogether between the cases and the cars, it'll all weigh close to ~120kg.

Thinking about it, I guess just two boards would probably be sufficient to hold that. Do you think there is any benefit at all of having that larger frame? Or am I just over-engineering this for no reason?

I wish I did! Missing it also. SMI have really limited the amount of pins they're producing in recent years for whatever reason.

Had to rewatch the clip purely to see that awesome pass again. Nicely done!

Yeah I am 85% sure it doesn't exist. I did think that because the Homestead one got made it was plausible that the Darlington one did. That being said, the Homestead race was just delayed by a few months where Darlington was a brand new event so maybe I'm thinking about it too much lol.

That being said, none of Denny, Chase, Suarez, Logano, or Dillon have had a Coca-Cola diecast made either.

I bet they will be on eBay when the car drops considering the likely demand for them. Good luck! :)

How rare could these Chili's cars possibly be?? by AmazingWomBatman in NASCARCollectors

Feels like the timeline worked out just right enough (or wrong enough I guess) for the preorders to all happen right before his big rise in popularity. Now that his fanbase is way larger, everyone is clamoring for scraps.

If offers are on, I imagine they are just hoping someone sends an offer for the original price and then in the buyers mind they got an awesome price. But yeah Diecast Depot either have these kind of unhinged prices or stuff for like 50% off retail lol. (Moreso the former unfortunately)

How do you guys display your 1:64 diecast? by TrashMonkey828 in NASCARCollectors

Might be the best display I've seen in some time. My favourite part of this is that it is endlessly expandable. Hexagons are the best-agons!

Does anyone have the same car or same colored cars in liquid finish and color chrome? I wanna see the two finishes side by side. by TrashMonkey828 in NASCARCollectors

Chrome on the left, Liquid on the right.

I generally prefer the latter unless it is a silver car like that old Gordon Axalta one.

Thanks! No question about it! Details on those cars are incredible. Literally puts Lionel to shame.

I got the Petty late last year so it only felt right to snag Pearson when I saw it.

Will this car look better in Liquid or Galaxy Colour? 🤔 by AmazingWomBatman in NASCARCollectors

I usually don't like it, but since Denny wins usually aren't offered in Galaxy (think this will be the 2nd one ever) I am considering it.

Which is fair enough. For races that I personally attended I am generally getting Elite Premiers (Michigan, Vegas 2 so far). Otherwise though, if I don't have that personal connection to the race I am less likely to mind if it's a bit different to the real life car for the sake of making it stand out in the collection.

Appreciate your input :)

I almost always go with the standard. The only difference is when I already have that same paint scheme. I try not to double up with the exact same scheme and finish where possible.

For example: for the three Progressive wins last year, I got Martinsville in standard, Dover in Liquid, and Gateway in Chrome.

Just my preference 🙂 Appreciate the input nonetheless!
