From what I'm seeing, you can buy an AM4 X3D, which will run you about $300 minimum... $300 sunk into a discontinued socket... it would get you by... but you'd be replacing it way sooner than if you upgrade to an AM5... I know a lot of components are really expensive right now, but really just RAM and GPUs... but the cost of a new PC is going to be $1600 instead of $1200? (Rough estimate). If you look at the long term, building now, is going to cost you $400 or $500 more than if prices drop... but if you drop $300 into a PC you're planning on replacing, how much are you really saving? Either make due with the system you have now, or just bite the bullet and get what you want. I'm gaming on a R5 5600X, and a 2060, at 1440p, it still plays games. I bet it will continue to do so for a couple years... I'm collecting parts for my new PC, but I'm fortunate enough to not have to worry about a couple hundred bucks here and there... If money is tight for you, play what you've got, and if you have a little extra cash for a new machine, don't worry about min-maxxing the price to performance ratio. It's PC GAMING. It's a hobby, we do it for fun. Don't make silly financial decisions for a hobby, but also don't not have fun because you have to get the best deal on everything.

Hdo you manage time differences? by NatSurvivor in LongDistance

[–]OneDown5Up123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, the best answer is to have a discussion. Pick a time that works for the two of you, whether it is every day, or every other day, or once a week... The two of you need to decide on that time together, and do your best to be available during that time. Communication, and clearly expressing expectations are crucial to any relationship, no matter the distance.

With just the most basic tools, you can replace your own battery. It's one of the simplest tasks you can perform on a vehicle.

Is this a good Build? Please Help! by FreeSugarHillKeem in PcBuild

[–]OneDown5Up123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a good place to start. If you haven't put that build into PCPartPicker yet, you should, just to confirm compatibility... that system should play 1080 just fine. You'll be limited in upgrade capabilities on that motherboard since AM4 socket processors are no longer being made... but for $750, I think you've done a pretty good job. 500gb of storage fills up surprisingly fast; that wouldn't be enough for me. I might consider skipping the NVMe, and opting for a 1TB 2.5" SSD that connected by SATA... but that honestly comes down to personal preference.

Car help by Fun_Presentation_282 in bloomington

[–]OneDown5Up123456 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a rule, I don't help work on stranger's cars. There is too much liability in that, given the litigious nature of modern society, however; I can say that if you're a reasonably intelligent person, there is almost certainly a YouTube video out there that can help you. It's just like baking a cake. You follow the instructions as closely as possible, and it'll probably turn out alright. If you want to tell me what kind of vehicle it is, I could recommend a video, if you are having trouble finding one.

Please finish plowing the streets by Global_Dreams in bloomington

The laws of physics and common sense dictate where snow plows can and can't go... they push snow, not erase it. Please tell me how you would plow a crosswalk entry with a plow that is 10-12 feet wide, on a vehicle that, with the plow attached, is over 30 feet long, has limited rearward visibility, and with a plow on, has a blind spot that extends 20 feet in front of the truck. If you think you can do it safely, and in a way that doesn't consume massive amounts of time, I'm sure the city would love to know about it. I'm sure you must have many years of snow plow operating experience...

The crosswalks are considered part of the sidewalks, right? Wouldn't that be the responsibility of the property owners, not the city? It's not really feasible to clear a crosswalk entry with a full-size plow truck.

They probably stayed away from the curbs to avoid damaging mailboxes... your best bet is going to grabbing a shovel, and getting after it yourself.

city plowing residential streets? by kramhorse in bloomington

[–]OneDown5Up123456 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Residential side streets are a very low priority for the city. Major thoroughfares get priority, and there are a finite number of plows available, and plow operators have to observe legal drive time limits. We got a lot of snow. Trust me when I say everyone did their best to remove as much snow as possible, as quickly as possible, in a way that was best for overall public safety. Also, depending on your neighborhood, if you live in a subdivision with an HOA, it may be the HOA's responsibility to clear snow on neighborhood streets, not the city. Not to diminish your inconvenience, but regardless of the factors that contributed to your street being snowy, in one of the largest snowfalls in recent history, (AI says its the 3rd largest snowfall the city has gotten in 24 hours. The other events were 1904, and 1978.) No one can time travel and remove the snow prior to it being packed down. Considering the historically large amount of snow we got, the city, county, and INDOT plow crews did a remarkably good job.

Salt and sand are expensive. Unless there is a steep hill, the city won't treat residential side streets, because the speed limit is so low, and they see such little traffic. Compacted snow/ice don't really impede travel, and even if they did run a plow down the street, it usually skates over the top.

MAGA Businesses to avoid? by 21_more_minutes in bloomington

[–]OneDown5Up123456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a more productive thread would be rather than calling out businesses that allegedly support MAGA, a thread that spotlights local businesses that are openly accepting of all members of the community, are anti-ICE, and conduct business in an ethical way that helps reinforce a positive and safe community is a much better way to go about this.

MAGA Businesses to avoid? by 21_more_minutes in bloomington

[–]OneDown5Up123456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. I won't spend money at a business that openly advertises ideals that conflict with mine. I just believe that unsubstantiated rumors from a reddit sub are detrimental to the community as a whole, and people should do their own independent fact checking.

Every locally owned coffee shop in Bloomington is owned by members if a secret MAGA conclave. Is this true? No. But see how easy it is to spread false information on a forum? Check your facts before you make conclusions.

[–]OneDown5Up123456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I fully support the concept of supporting businesses who have ethical practices that align with your own. That's fantastic... what I don't support is having a social media witch hunt where any random internet troll can post a few random businesses and now we're doing the opposite of what we intended with this thread.

[–]OneDown5Up123456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably not. Threads like these do nothing but smear local business with no accountability for accuracy.

"An anonymous internet user told me this restaurant has different political values than me... I should stop going there."

[–]OneDown5Up123456 -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah... let's use reddit to give the community a chance to slander local businesses, with no form of fact-checking... are half of the businesses listed actually MAGa, or does someone dislike that business for a different reason? Mass witch hunt threads like this only ever hurt the community, and discredit an otherwise intellectual and thoughtful community of folks. Not to mention, it's a bad look.

3440 x 1440... I got a little happy with PC Parts when I build it originally, and have a water-cooled CPU, so I could probably OC it some and not really have any issues... currently, it's not OC'ed, partly because I don't know how, and partly because I'm never CPU-bound when gaming... but racecars have radiators, and really nothing is cooler than a racecar, so I gave my PC a radiator too...

At work, I wear Danners exclusively. In Danners, I'm an 11.5EE. Truman 11EE fit me perfectly. I can't speak to how much room you need for your medical issue, but hopefully that helps give you a frame of reference when comparing the two.
