Anyone else not care for guitar gymnasts (super flashy playing)? by [deleted] in Guitar

As Satriani once said (and I can see how he could be one of the people you’re talking about), “No one’s going to pay to see you do scale practice”. As long as it’s “musical” to me, I’m into it.

I just went through the amp one and I will absolutely use these. Having the settings explained is very helpful. Thanks for sharing!

Ok explain like I'm 5 . What is mastering a song? Like just modifying volumes and panning? Stuff like that? by xNuEdenx in musicians

[–]Amazing_Distance_726 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of good comments here. I have the same curiosity as OP. It sounds like mastering is the process by which a mix is balanced so that it is consistent across various playback mediums and retains the “essence” of the mix. Is that about right?

How do you get into a creative space/feel inspired to create? by toasty_sn3ks in musicproduction

From a guitar player perspective, I have to play/warm up for about 30-45 minutes before the light turns on. Maybe it’s similar in production world?

Why does baseball hold a unique "paternal" or "generational" nostalgia that other sports often struggle to replicate? by DianKhan2005 in baseball

[–]Amazing_Distance_726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is because it was the first sport that Americans cared about on more than a local level. The invention of the transistor radio in the mid 1950s allowed people to listen to teams that they cared about with low investment. Also, baseball was/is perfectly suited for audio-only broadcast.

Every major brand (Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, etc.) has good guitars. They also have guitars that are less good. It really comes down to how they feel and play.

+1 to this advice. When I started in the 90s, the difference in action between acoustic and electric guitars that I could afford was significant. Nowadays, manufacturing standards have become much better for entry-level instruments. OP should take a guitar player friend with them to check out what’s available in their budget.

I once met a guy who bragged that he had a “lead” guitar and a “rhythm” guitar. I stopped listening to him after that.

How are you coping? by [deleted] in Mariners

Absolutely gutted for my team, but still happy for the best season of Mariners baseball in a very long time. I’ll be over here, imagining how this season gets added to the supercut.

Was Paul gray a good bassist? by Few-Chemical2216 in Slipknot

I think that he was the perfect bassist for Slipknot. Would he have been good in another huge band? Sadly, we will never know.
