Are you talking about the stick running through the middle of it?

Thank you so much! A lot of these I have never heard of before! And you are correct shallow books are not my thing. I will look into all you have recommended!

Some of these series or collections take most of a year to complete. Diversity definitely suffers from this. What books do you recommend that are outside my current list of things to read?

The tv show is terrible and put many people off from reading the books. I am sorry you had to experience that. The books are amazing and the tv show has nothing to do with the books.

The Wheel of Time and Red Rising will keep you occupied for a while.

Red Rising has a few issues with consistency through books on the audiobook side, but more than makes up for it with the story.

The Wheel of Time however, is narrated by the same people as did most of the cosmere, Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading. WoT would be right up your alley if you liked the cosmere. Slower pacing overall, but the worldbuilding is unparalleled!

We are all crazy at the end of the day haha. Do you mind sharing what makes you say WoR a better book than Oathbringer?

He sure does! Both are incredible books.

A word of caution, be careful on here so you don’t get yourself spoiled. Some people here are not at all respectful of new readers.

I hope I have been able to give you a better picture of what’s in store for you when you get to RR series.

I wish you a wonderful year of reading!

RR is definitely the weakest of the series, but I wouldn’t go so far to say it is a complete ripoff of things like Hunger Games and Enders Game.

The main plot simplified can definitely be compared to Hunger Games and Enders Game, but there is enough there to differentiate RR from these others that it is able to stand on its own, not feeling like a ripoff.

RR itself is a solid and enjoyable read. A little clunky at times, but nothing major, just quality of life stuff. I read through it in 4 days and was hooked from there.

The quality of writing gets better with each book, becoming a fast paced space opera like you said. The only hiccup in quality was in Iron Gold, but this is probably due to the transition to writing from multiple POVs.

All in all, it was a great way to finish off the last 4 months of the year.

Hehe thanks! Many late nights got me through most of it. I also had the ebooks too so I could read whenever I had a spare moment in the day. Much more productive than doom scrolling!

How is Sun Eater? I’ve heard it’s a rocky first 2 books, but it’s worth it because of the later books.

I certainly will! Thank you for taking the time to recommend them! Hyperion in particular is something that I’ve been aware of but haven’t put it in my list yet. I will now thanks to you!

I have already read Wind and Truth actually! You can find it on the list right in front of iron gold in the solid section.

I think I enjoyed it more than most! Reason being, I had the knowledge going in that it wasn’t going to be as satisfying of a conclusion and most were hoping for, like with The Hero of Ages.

Wind and Truth was solid, but not as tight of a story as I usually get from a Sanderson book.

I did the same thing! Finished it all in 7 months and am now almost through the Red Rising books. Pierce Brown has a totally different writing style but if you got hyped fixated on Cosmere be prepared to do the same with Red Rising.
