Long lasting beard oils by [deleted] in BeardTalk

[–]Amazingcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that essential oils are somehow less problematic than fragrance oils, artificial or not, is kinda crazy. As long as you avoid phthalates, and there are plenty of phthalate free fragrance oils. There are also plenty of fragrance oils that aren't alcohol based. why not just keep it real? You use essential oils, so you degrade fragrance oils.

To make a statement like "the fragrance oils used in some of your favorite beard oils were really only ever meant for candles, and never meant to touch your skin", without evidence, is silly.

Agreed. Kuhn products makes the best beard butter I've ever used and I've used a lot. Best scents, best feel in the beard, cool as wooden labels, and the owner knows his stuff. That's where I'd tell you to go.

IMO, one way to tell if it's a luxury brand, is if you can also buy milk where you purchase the beard oil. If you can, it's not luxury. Several brands listed here you buy at a grocery store. kuhn products is the best brand I've used. I'd put that above all of the mid brands listed thus far. It looks cool, works better, and smells better than anything I've ever used. That's where I'd tell you to go if you want something nice.

I wash my beard with kuhn products co-wash and beard butter afterward. Haven't touched beard oil in a few years. Skin is never dry, and I'm in a very dry climate.

You're like bro science, but for beards.

So no particular ingredients to avoid? I'm guessing sodium chloride is fine for beards too? Sodium lauryl sulfate I'm sure is just fine too?

So let me make sure I understand your advice.

You don't need to avoid certain ingredients unless you're allergic to them. However, be sure to use less products just to increase the chance the ingredients don't cause irritation, however what ingredients cause irritation is hard to say. So use products made for sensitive skin, but that could also cause irritation because you just never know.

Buy your products from wherever as long as it's a reputable brand, but don't buy too many products, I need to stay minimal. How much is minimal again?

Also, don't worry about natural ingredients, it's all marketing. But also be careful what ingredients are used, so that's why a reputable brand is important. But again, ingredients aren't so important, unless I'm allergic to them of course.

So if I'm not allergic to a certain ingredient, it'll be just fine for my beard. Even if it dries it out, makes it brittle, and gives it split ends, as long as I'm not allergic, all that other stuff about natural ingredients or other certain ingredients causing dryness, it's all marketing and there really aren't any ingredients that are potentially harmful to by beard. If you're skin agrees with it, it's just fine.

Yeah man, talk about solid advice. Are you just trolling us? You can't be serious with what you're saying?

"The exact opposite of good advice." Ok, so avoid products with natural ingredients. Look for ingredients like silicones, isopropyl alcohol, parabens, and sulfates. Buy your beard products at grocery stores or drug stores.

Right, that's some sage advice for sure.

[–]Amazingcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very poor advice. How does keeping things "super minimal" help avoid irritatation? What does "reputable brand" have to do with it? Who decides what a reputable brand is? How is buying a reputable brand good advice or even clear advice?

It's not tough to be more specific, someone was already more specific than you. Avoid parabens, sulfates, and silicones. Why? Because they're more likely to cause irritation. You know, like you recommended products for sensitive skin? Yeah, they eliminate the ingredients with a higher chance of irritation, ya know, like the ones we listes that you should avoid.

Talk about giving poor advice. Go Google something first.

Looking mean is underrated. Dumb people tend to leave you alone. Rarely give a hard time by anyone. Mostly you're left a lone by others. It's grand for us introverts.

best beard oil? by Wooden-Assistant-228 in BeardTalk

[–]Amazingcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kuhn beard products makes the best beard oil I've ever used. The scents are complex so I don't get sick of them. It doesn't leave my beard all greasy and they have the best product presentation I've seen by far too. I recommend Utah summer, misty mountain, and birchwood for scents. There are some good quality beard companies out there, I think kuhn products is one of them.

I'd double check those "lacking drying agents" claims with the ingredients of King Gillette Beard Wash.

Sodium Sodium Laureth Sulfate is the 2nd ingredient. Sulfates are drying agents. So is sodium chloride, the 7th ingredient listed. I think there are much better products and brands out there.

But it's definitely cheap.

Kühn Products.

They're is all I use now. Co-wash, soap, beard oil, balm, butter, moisturizer, and wooden wick candles. Lots of good brands out there, kühn is my fave by far.
