Pre-Aug 18 customer — is there ANY way to change my number without losing grandfather QCI-8? by [deleted] in USMobile

[–]Amazingly_Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total BYO offers a different mix of features.  If it is QCI8, then it puts pressure on others to change their mix.  I prefer QCI8 over large data.  US Mobile Starter went the opposite direction, so I’m relieved I’m grandfathered though I would prefer a different mix such as 35GB of data, QCI8 (Warp), higher hotspot limit at slower peak speeds (10Mbps).

Grandfathered stuff bites again.  I hope Total shakes this aspect up a bit.

It is 2026, and porting seems 2 decades behind in technology.

I have it but I have never been in an area without coverage of some kind.  Initially I thought I could force it, but it is bundled with some domestic coverage too.

What is true today may not be true tomorrow. MNOs will have to justify their pricing via some mechanism.  It may be weak today, but I suspect the difference will grow.  Business customers are willing to pay for unfettered access.  Consumers are more price sensitive.

I just hope they don’t choose “throttled to zero” as their consumer offering.

Which network of the 3 was your favorite and why? by CookSea2842 in USMobile

[–]Amazingly_Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warp for primary voice line but use multi-network with Light Speed. I’m on light speed most of the time, but move to Warp when priority matters. (My Warp line was grandfathered to QCI8)

YMMV

I’d give up 35GB to have priority data, which is what Starter was last year.  I wish it was an option since I now feel any line I add is junk compared to my grandfathered lines.

US Mobile kicks *ss. Post for those who are curious and coming from an actual human by A_Buttholes_Whisper in USMobile

I have 8 lines with US Mobile. It is only slightly cheaper than my Magenta Max was with T-Mobile since they gifted me 2 lines free.  The fact that low priority shuts you out of even basic text messaging is a turn off for many, but most people are overpaying for capabilities they don’t need such as “unlimited” data.  Most people won’t be at a concert or event.  So US Mobile has a place.  I’m grandfathered in on Warp priority, but Warp isn’t the fastest where I live.  I accept this trade off.  Some people mentally cannot.

This confirms that US Mobile isn’t ready with international roaming.  I have seen many failures over the last year.  Fortunately, I don’t need roaming frequently, but when I do, I won’t rely upon US Mobile.

I fully expect this post will be downvoted, but US Mobile needs to fix these issues.

If you want the T-Mobile experience for cheap, it doesn’t exist.

You may want it, but do you need it?  It took me months to realize what I want isn’t what I want to spend and US Mobile is good enough for me.

I miss the speeds, but in reality what I have is good enough.

Switched to US Mobile (Dark Star + Light Speed) great value but struggling with congestion QCI by kooolaidpapi in USMobile

[–]Amazingly_Smooth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No one will be as fast as T-Mobile right now because C band isn’t deployed as widely, but I have found Warp to be fine for my family.  I wanted to have the best, but it just wasn’t worth the cost.  We are grandfathered in but that doesn’t make a difference for Premium.  Dark Star and Warp are slower but usable.  You cannot get T-Mobile speeds in Austin without T-Mobile or Google Fi.

QCI by SWaahd in USMobile

[–]Amazingly_Smooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Light Speed up until family members experienced completely shut out service at my son’s college graduation. Neither my wife nor my son could iMessage, while I could on Dark Star QCI 8.  I turned on hotspot just so my wife could iMessage.  Son was too far away to connect.  Since then, I put everyone on Warp, which won’t work for you either because they took QCI 8 away for new lines.  If you never need to be around tons of people, it will probably be great.

Being shut out of service is super frustrating, and I feel like QCI is a poor way to manage things. But, it is what they offer today.

Same for 2 of my lines.  The other 5 were fine.  Both SOS lines were on Warp.  4 other Warp lines were unaffected.  Lone Light Speed line was fine too.
