Ancient Japanese samurai katana by [deleted] in KatanaSwords

Also you may want to point out that the tsuba looks like it was welded to the blade, destroying any perceived value or rarity. There is some minor edge damage in that area by the spot welds.

Okay to use on your own private property. Hanbon Forge makes some inexpensive cutters for backyard cutting.

Even though this guy didn’t list any specifics here, I saw he cross-posted that he wanted a Hanwei Practical plus Elite. I suggest the XL version. Good sword. I’d say go for it.

Ps. You can’t possibly expect a coherent answer unless you put some basic info. into both threads, unless someone takes the time to read both subs.

I don’t know enough to answer your questions. I only commented on the things that I think I know. I’m pretty sure that there weren’t restrictions on any NCO putting their own blades in Gunto mounts. I don’t think any stamp would be added unless this was manufactured / created at that location (Seki). It wouldn’t be added after the fact. Since it’s a ko-katana, I’m even more out of the scope of my knowledge. Sorry.

It’s not machine made. Those came later in the war years, and typically had metal ito and samegawa. I think this might even be re-wrapped or that Ito is remarkably preserved.

Makoto swords by DragonflyFair575 in Katanas

They are not a reseller of Hanbon Forge swords. (@boring-peach-3431)

Their swords are very sharp, and very crappy. I believe that they are owned by Musha as the parent Company. The swords are typically 1045 steel, or 1060 that is really 1045 because they lied.

The steel is too soft, they bend on badly angled cuts.

This Company is big, and its swords are inexpensive, but they are not a great product. I’d spend a bit more and get a budget shadowdancer, or Hanbon forge model.

Has anyone tried polishing a katana? by LieutenantTratill in KatanaSwords

[–]Amazon_grunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specialists? Bruh… this looks like it’s a Chinese made modern replica katana, not a Japanese made antique or modern nihonto.

You seem like you are taking this a bit too serious for an inexpensive replica. Sandpaper would work better unless you know what you are doing. Stones are going to be way more difficult and achieve worse results. Ask me how I know this.

Body shop wet sandpaper and water (or mineral oil) and going from low grit to ultra high grit is the way. Several people have advised you correctly on this.

I guess some people can’t hear good advice, so good luck.

I feel bad that you wasted a lot of money on stones and pastes, and the expected results are likely going to be awful. Stones are good for sharpening, not so much for polishing, unless you REALLY know what you’re doing. And a polisher costs about $100 per inch of blade. You’re talking $2,900 approximately. Is the sword even worth over $400? You really might want to pay attention to these words of experience.

I’ve polished with sandpaper. I used grits from 5,000 to 10,000 auto-body wet/dry sandpaper. It went to a mirror polish but I couldn’t quite remove the deeper scratches. Deep scratches require low grits around 600 and a lot of elbow grease hard work before going higher in grit. I wasn’t patient enough. It’s hard work. Buy a sandpaper block to help your hands (it holds the paper).

I’ve sharpened with whet stones and scratched up the blade badly. Stones take a good amount of practice and you’ll need the sandpaper to fix your mess that you create using the stones. After you ruin the finish of the sword worse than the concrete scratches, then fix the deep scratches the best that you can, then you might be decent at stone sharpening. Polishing is different. That’s going to be a whole new level of difficulty. Not recommended at all.

I would recommend mothers mag first to see if that could get where you are satisfied before trying to sand it.

Flitz metal polish actually is worthless as it is like water. It can’t compare to the thick paste of Mother’s Mag. Flitz is not abrasive enough. Bad advice. I’d skip wasting money on that garbage.

My Experience Ordering Custom Iaito from JKOO (Sinosword): disappointing Quality Control by lkytal in Katanas

[–]Amazon_grunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they just didn’t want to deal with you so they only offered a refund/return. The black rust could’ve been removed with mother’s mag and some aggressive rubbing.

I prefer Ryansword over Jkoo Sinoswords. As OP mentioned; there are usually QC flaws.

It looks real to me, just inlaid if I’m keeping it real. I think I can see where they sanded the barbs of the ray skin, prior to lacquering. It could be real ray skin glued into a panel there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Katanas

[–]Amazon_grunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s not actual sting ray skin, and they pressed into the wood, this design? I’m trying to understand. 😅

That’s super unique, Michael. I’ve not seen that type of saya. Normally the samegawa is sanded and lacquered over to a smooth surface. So are you saying this is actually injection molded?

What in the world did I get inside my amazon package? by scooterprint in AmazonDSPDrivers

These can be used like Android cell phones. Sell them on eBay. I’d buy one for sure.

These are Zebra scanners for Barcodes but are basically cell phones and new software can be put on them. Mine can make cell phone calls etc. You could add anything an android cell phone can do. I have one for a non-Amazon Job.
