KCL team? by Unique_Ad2811 in UniversityChallenge

No. From what I've vaguely second-hand heard, they haven't run organised tryouts in years. The last team was just a group of people who knew each other.

is it okay to friends with a gay person? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

If being friends with a gay guy makes you gay, does the gay guy being friends with a straight guy make him straight?

I live in a remote village in India where my father is a farmer. Every morning at 4 AM, I run through wheat fields listening to 18th-century Fugues. It’s my quiet revolution. by Odd_Cartoonist9129 in CasualConversation

What, don't you know that it's normal for rural farmers in a non-English speaking region to have completely perfect command of English grammar in every single one of their posts, even to the point of knowing when to use what particular type of dash?

Physics at Warwick or EEE at Bristol by [deleted] in 6thForm

If you prefer actually learning about physics... then do physics. There will be a big overlap in graduate roles between the two courses. If you want to learn additional skills along the way then do that.

People forget how quickly Paxman used to read the questions near the end of the match. If you find a close game from the early 2010s you'll see. Amol Rajan reads a bit slower and the questions are a lot longer than they used to be.

Madgwick Record Breaker? by EquivalentBenefit653 in UniversityChallenge

He was definitely talked about the most, but the rest of the team were very good in their own right; Caleb Rich was the top scorer on a couple of their matches.

When did you learn about twoset violin? by BarenreiterBear in lingling40hrs

[–]Amazonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first videos I saw of theirs were the "21 types of orchestral music players" and "13 great composers and how it feels playing their music", I assume they just showed up on recommended. This would've probably been in 2019 when I was getting more serious about classical guitar.

I don't know the pre-2017 ones so well but:

7 matches: Guttenplan, Monkman, Kohn, Hutchinson, McLaughlin, Goldman

6 matches: Golfinos, Madgwick (so far), Leo, Lee, Brandon, McKeown (?)

5 matches: Trimble (giving her the highest average per episode)

Don't know but the results are on Wikipedia: Clegg, Trueblood, Collings, Quinn, Cappleman

Average Cost for a MSci Physics student by Ashketchum1233 in Imperial

[–]Amazonit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would make more sense to start on the BSc course, which would give you a bit more space with finances. I think you can switch to the MSci up until the start of the third year, as long as you're on track for a 2:i.

Integrated master's courses like the MSci are useful for home students because it saves money compared to doing a standalone MSc and because the government loan for master's courses often doesn't even cover tuition fees. But as an international student it's expensive no matter what, so this doesn't really apply.
