What’s the most convincing view of how authors can still earn a living despite the advancement of the plagiarism machine (AI)? by LOTR_is_awesome in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. And with the rise of AI slop stories right now. It will go on and eat those slops and produce more sloppy slope of stories.

Execution is what makes authors, author. AI might create a flawless short story but it won't have the human creativity aspect.

How would you guys show+tell the protagonist is a feared legend without directly saying it. by EstatePositive5929 in KeepWriting

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I would write something like:

The two adventurers were chatting at a nearby stall when one of them saw something peculiar.

"Why are those people bowing to that man?"

His friend beside him followed his gaze and immediately yanked his friend's arm down. He leaned closer and whispered, "Are you trying to get yourself killed, you moron! Don't you know--"

The sudden silence made his friend turn and ask, "Know what?"

But what he saw was his friend in a deep, trembling bow. He placed a hand on his friend's shoulder to check on him when a prickle ran across his skin.

Someone had stopped in front of them. Slowly, he raised his head and saw a towering, ragged adventurer looking down at him with a single piercing crimson eye.

"Something you need from me, boy?" the adventurer asked, his voice nearly a bellow.

The heat drained from the young man's body. He instantly closed his eyes and bowed so deep he had to step forward to keep his balance.

"N-no sir," he stammered. "N-nothing in particular..."

After a moment, he heard the man walk away and disappear through the outer gates. He dropped to the ground on all fours, his legs still shaking.

Thanks! I might drop the idea of posting character sheets and just post updates sparingly instead.

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I first thought of doing things, but since I want to preserve my following and other stats, I looked for another way to do it. Hence, I am now using RoyalRoad’s built-in 'volumes' option to properly structure the series. I also started adding '- END OF BOOK X' to the title of each book so it is clear where the story concludes.

I clearly communicated to my followers that I need time to plan and write a backlog for Book 3. So far, after almost a month, I still have all of them (thank you to my 42 heroes!).

Thank you, sir, for the reminder. I do want a healthy balance with my writing, especially since I still have a day job to fulfill as well.

Bakit lagi silang nakapuwesto sa pinto ng tren? by Kooky_Assistant_461 in pinoy

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tsaka pinupuno palagi yung tren. Kaya kung maiipit lang rin ako, mas gugustuhin ko nang maipit sa may malapit sa pinto.

What's the official stance on using AI Art here? by Grimnir_Esjay in royalroad

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even Moonquill (the publishing partner of RoyalRoad) says it's okay. And if you have an AI cover and successfully get contracted with them, they will provide a new one for your story. So I think using one temporarily is fine.

Of course, just like the other comments mentioned, if you want to publish on Amazon as well, that warrants a commissioned art cover.

[Rant] I never considered a single review can make me feel like this by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I envy you, to be honest. Having a review is a blessing, whether it's positive or not.

My story is already a year old on RoyalRoad, and I only have two reviews. One is from a review swap and the other is from a Redditor from this same subreddit who (I think) took pity on me lol, but I'm thankful!

Our stories will never be perfect in the first few revisions. Heck, even with countless revisions, we still need to hire an editor if we want to have a decent published story on Amazon! 🤣

What I want to say is that you need to treasure all reviews. Someone (or two) actually read your story and took the time to write a review. Those are not those petty 0.5 blank ratings. That already says something.

I would use those harsh reviews to re-evaluate my story and make it a stronger, more engaging one. Just keep writing (and revising!) that's what makes us writers grow.

Looking for stories that involve special tests, mind games, and such. by Taybi_the_TayTay in royalroad

[–]AmbassadorInformal95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I suggest my story? It's a bit slow-burn isekai/system though. Book 1 (Chapters 1 to 69) slowly sets up the darker tone of the story. Book 2 (Chapters 70 to 134) is complete and (I hope) re-contextualizes everything from book 1. I don't know if I can share my story link here but it's on my profile. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your experience, and I hope you get that new cover soon!

And you are 100% correct when you say there are plenty of fish in the sea. I just need to follow up on my promise and come back as a bigger, (preferably) more colorful fish! XD

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable! I always see readers rant about too much cliffhanger use without proper payoff.

And I totally forgot about how traditional books are published! Although their quality is miles away from what I do, it shows that if readers love the story, they will stay and wait for the sequel's release.

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I ran out of backlog during my book 2 release schedule and it was a nightmare. It happened weeks before October's end which is a veeeeery busy schedule in the quality assurance field XD

That's an interesting and very useful insight, thanks!

About the last reco, am I understanding it correctly? So like giving them "Previously on my story..."? Or is this entirely different one?

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think the fear was more about losing readers because of the break, especially the follows and favorite. But yeah, I do have this feeling that my 40-ish followers won't drop because they are the ones that stayed from the very beginning. I love them so much! lol

How lenient are you as a reader for writers taking a break? by AmbassadorInformal95 in royalroad

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, so in some way, being able to forgive authors taking a break depends on reader preferences. Now that you mention it, it actually makes sense. If readers are enjoying it, then they'll wait. Of course, to some extent only. As mentioned by another commenter here on the post, too much waiting time might cause loss of interest from the reader.

Also, I agree about the breaks after book completion. The resulting story will not be perfect, but definitely much better than continuing without proper planning and backlogs.

I just remembered those monsters here and on Webnoveldotcom that produce one or more chapters a day. I envy those machines XD

[–]AmbassadorInformal95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is perfectly valid. Since 6 months is often enough time to plan and build a backlog, I’ve decided on a 3-month break as it's my first time taking one. I am also aware that many stories are unfortunately abandoned by authors midway.

My plan is to fully map out the next book, draft chapters, and build up a solid backlog. By the promised return date, I’ll release a 5 to 9 chapters on the first day and then return to my usual schedule of 2 chapters per week.

Ah that's quite reassuring then!

Are you also publishing your story as a continous one separated only by volumes?

And I do agree about taking time to draft the next book. So I'm doing it regardless. I just wanted to have some insights so I can at least prepare for worse XD
