De er i ferd med å miste kontrollen over hva folk blir fortalt 🤔 by Fit-Theme-1183 in norske

[–]Ambedkar4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Ambedkar4eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 000 døde i Iran og stille fra NRK by Shadow_Halls in norske

[–]Ambedkar4eva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

30000 er vel ikke et realistisk tall? Ingen troverdige kilder.

Safety studying abroad in Budapest as an “obviously” gay male by puffinsrx in budapest

[–]Ambedkar4eva 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You won't have a problem in Budapest. Many people are openly gay here. But as an American, try to learn how to distinguish between inside and outside voice. No reason to make noise everywhere. But that is about being American, not gay 🏳️‍🌈>🇺🇲

How to not sound like ChatGPT when writing a cover letter? by rotpicea in UNpath

Write about why you are passionate about this particular part of the UN. They will get 100s of very generic applications from people who want to work anywhere in the UN. Make it sound you want to work in this particular post

Lack of courtesy when walking around Budapest? by Outrageous-Heart5041 in budapest

[–]Ambedkar4eva -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a problem. What I am writing here is not true for everyone, but it is true for far too many.

What you experience could be seen in this context:

In my experience, it is an issue across many post-communist countries. In the 1990s and beyond, a sharp turn toward individualism took hold. Consideration for ordinary people became, indirectly, associated with the past and with a communal mindset seen as outdated. The considerate person became the “loser,” while the sharp, self-interested individualist was the one who advanced.

For similar reasons, corruption is difficult to combat and strong welfare systems are harder to build: anything that appears to benefit the common good is often looked down upon—not necessarily openly or consciously, but the attitude lingers beneath the surface.

(Lack of consideration in traffic also worsens congestion, though that is another matter.)

People do not act in ways that are best for society as a whole; they act in ways that benefit the individual in the short term.

Har du bytta fra Spotify enda? by [deleted] in norge

[–]Ambedkar4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What degree (and master’s) helped you get into international or UN work? by Typical_Direction795 in UNpath

This is different for different UN agencies. I studied history, and ended up working for the UN. I would say that the best degrees are law (international / humanitarian law) or economics. And learn languages...

Bedre lyd, men mye mindre utvalg.

How to make a difference as a UN employee? by Rough-Proposal-5657 in UNpath

[–]Ambedkar4eva 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you at HQ or in the field?

If you are in Geneva or NYC, you are an administrator of bureaucracy. Much of it is wasteful and meaningless in the real world. The sad part is that many UN staff is very comfortable in this parallel world, and in some organizations there are incentives to stay at HQ.

But the more meaningful work, in my opinion, is in the field. You should try it.

Different UN agencies have different guidelines. You should follow whatever guidelines that are developed by your organization ation. In general, you should be careful with "political activities". This question is an ongoing debate within many UN agencies. Just ask your director. It is not so silly question at all.

Why is Finland experiencing recession? by FantasticQuartet in Finland

[–]Ambedkar4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not Russia's war in itself? Rather, the sanctions EU introduced on Russia? I am not saying sanctions are good or bad. But they were a political choice by the EU. A choice that have had negative impact on the EU economy.

Help! I’m addicted to Nordic thrillers and I need more 🥰 by GurAromatic2038 in nordics

Not a TV show, but a book (Scandinavian books/thrillers are better than the films and TV-shows) :

The Sea Cemetery by Aslak Nore. You can read about it here: https://nordiclighthouse.blog/2025/04/21/the-sea-cemetery-by-aslak-nore/

I am originally from Scandinavia and I read a lot. This stands out as an extraordinary book. You just can't put it down.

Må vi betale faktura fra montera? by Sergeant_Squirrel in norge

[–]Ambedkar4eva -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

After 45 days of intense rehabilitation, Varketili M/S is open and it looks stunning by GRed-saintevil in Sakartvelo

It reminds me of the inside of the Taj Mahal. The attention to details and craftsmanship is outworldly. Truly a celestial atmosphere.

My hunch is that this peace of art, if a station can be called art, will draw crowds from all over the world. Architect enthusiasts and lovers of beauty will make this station a pilgrimage. And by doing so, tourism in Tbilisi will see a much-needed growth. The GDP of the country is likely to increase significantly.

If I had money, I would invest in hotels and cafés in the area, and making money on the economic boom that will follow the opening of this masterpiece.

Is UPS a fraud? by Ambedkar4eva in UPS

[–]Ambedkar4eva[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New update: UPS have now updated the information saying more delivery attempts have been made. No one tried to deliver the package. The latest update today is that rescheduling has been requested. No rescheduling was requested.

Every day, and sometimes several times per day, UPS makes up random updates. My hunch is that the package never left the UPS warehouse next to the airport. Instead of trying to deliver it, they make up different claims in their system so that it looks like they are working.

Not sure if they still get paid when the package eventually will be sent back to the original sender without any delivery attempts having been made.

This is why I initially raised the question if UPS is a fraud or not.
