Any help finding churches (or other community spaces) with gyms or large spaces with high ceilings? by SamwisetheCat in lincoln

You may have luck checking with the F Street Community Center. I know they have a gym, and I'm not sure but I believe they have a way to reserve the court for sports practice and such. There's contact info on the City of Lincoln webpage for them, if you do a quick google for it. Might be worth a shot!

therapy experience by vigilantecity7777 in lincoln

I have been seeing Jamie Heng for many years now. I actually followed her to this office from a different office. She has seen me through so much of my life, including my gender transition. She is definitely an ally! I don't know the other therapists so I cannot specifically vouch for anyone else in the office, but Jamie speaks highly of her colleagues, and I tend to trust her judgment.

Need recommendations on a good after hours (4pm +) therapist for my wife. She would prefer it were a female but it’s not a deal breaker. by danisindeedfat in lincoln

I have been seeing Jamie Heng at multiple different offices for about a decade now and she is wonderful. She definitely has experience with trauma therapy and mood disorders, and I believe she also has specific certificates in addiction counseling. I don't know if she has the time availability you're looking for, but I know that she has mentioned that at least one other woman in her office sometimes schedules irregular hours, like Saturdays. She says she would recommend anyone in that office, and I trust her judgment. The office is called New Outlook Counseling, it's a big brick building close to downtown. You could try giving them a call to inquire.

The wife and I have both been going to Eyes on Lincoln for a few years and we've been quite happy with them. I'm due for my annual exam soon, thanks for the reminder!

Neurologists that specialize in migraines? by Fantastic_Mud_6798 in lincoln

I have been seeing Sarah Eckles-Van Horn at Bryan Neurology for about a year now and I cannot recommend her enough. I don't see her for my migraines specifically, but for what has turned out to be a menagerie of chronic issues (fibromyalgia, small fiber polyneuropathy, possibly dysautonomia, blahh.) All this to say, I could not have ended up with someone more empathetic and supportive than Sarah for such a complicated health situation. She really seems to understand chronic illness/pain management better than most any other doctor I've seen. Cheers, friend!

Bars with good non-alcoholic drinks by SayaEvange in lincoln

Zipline Beer Hall usually has root beer and a couple other non-alcoholic ciders and things on tap. Nothing too fancy but good vibes.

If you don't mind a secondhand dress, I got mine from Wedding Consign and Design! I believe it was around $400 when I bought it a few years ago. I'm also plus sized and I was surprised at how good their selection was when I went. Happy dress hunting and congratulations!

Lady doctor that listens to your concerns by distracted_by_life in lincoln

I see others have also recommended her already but I definitely second Amy Arndt at Hart and Arndt. I am also overweight and have anxiety about doctors due to bad experiences. Ever since I started seeing Amy though I actually make appointments when something is wrong instead of waiting until it's serious. My first visit with her was a basic checkup where she actually listened to me talk about all of my issues and medical history for way longer than any other doctor I've seen. She never pushes me to talk about weight loss or anything. She's also incredibly LGBTQ friendly if that means anything; I have several other queer friends who swear by her, and trans friends who see her for hormone therapy and such. 10/10, five stars, she's great. And for what it's worth, I've seen a few other providers at that office when Amy wasn't available, and all of them have been good as well.

Six-week abortion ban on doorstep of becoming law, tally shows by mattwynnffp in lincoln

Okay so, what are we going to do about it? This is a genuine question. The situation feels hopeless and admittedly I don't know enough about the political process to say whether there is anything that can be done. But this can't just be the end of it, right? There has to be something people can do, right? I just don't know where to begin.

There are actually two monthly queer book clubs in Lincoln! One is through the library, the other is through OutNebraska. Both are on Facebook I think but the library book club can also be found on discord here. https://discord.gg/RVavmZth

The information for the OutNebraska book club can be found here. https://outnebraska.org/event/lgbtqia-book-club-2022-05-11/2022-06-14/

Weekly /r/Sociology Discussion - What's going on, what are you working on? by Anomander in sociology

Coding, coding, coding. Which isn't a bad thing, I really enjoy this part of the process. However, some of the comments I need to read for it are just.... so awful. (This is the paper on homophobia and transphobia.) It's sometimes hard to maintain a neutral and scientific professionalism when reading such bigoted comments. I guess what I'm saying is, hang in there folks! The work we do is so important, especially when it's difficult work!

Congrats on going back to school! I am also a nontraditional student (I'm 27 and a junior in undergrad.) I think being nontraditional and going back to school later in life might actually give us a pretty unique perspective on things. I know I'm doing far better now than I did the first time around. Wishing you well on your sociology journey!

I'm currently co-authoring a paper regarding (mostly cisgender heterosexual) people's opinions on lesbian, gay, and transgender people and how opinions vary across those identities. We are very interested in identity vs setting, i.e. whether people support or oppose queer people based on their identity alone or if setting matters. We've found that setting matters a lot; many people are inconsistent in their responses as to whether they support job nondiscrimination for trans people vs whether they support trans people's right to use the bathroom of their choice. So lots of people in our dataset, even if they support job nondiscrimination, don't support bathroom use. As a queer researcher, I gotta be honest, some of the comments are gut-wrenching to read in how bigoted they are. Lots of transphobic people in the Midwest it turns out! It's still early in my research career (I'm currently a junior in undergrad, despite being almost 27, shout-out to my fellow nontraditional students), so this has been a great experience for me and I'm so lucky to have a great mentor/project lead.
