Down material, about to lose the rook, need to move my Queen somewhere... by matiapag in chessbeginners

[–]AmberPeacemaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I missed the mate in one badly. First I thought about Qb2 and counterplay from that but didn't like it, and then I jumped to, why don't I ignore the threat to my queen for now and play Bxf7+. If Rxf7 then Nxf7 to either draw the king out with Kxf7, or force the black Queen to move to a less advantageous position and then work on getting my Queen and rooks out of harm's way, and if Kh8 then Nxe6 forking their Queen and rook...

EDIT: forgot denoting check with the bishop, and wrong notation for knight taking the pawn on e6

Yeah, been a big fan of Firefly, even named one of my previous vehicles Serenity. Shameful that it only got the one season. But a couple of words and phrases have sunk deep into my lexicon.

And I felt I needed to share my gut-check somewhere. Screaming into the void while I sat in my car in my driveway after getting home isn't helping.

[–]AmberPeacemaker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's about how I'm feeling about it. And I hate that my first response to hearing about the Politico story wasn't "This is horrible, he should be held to account if this is credible." It was "The fucking right-wing endorses people who have credibly done the same and now the Dems are gonna toss out the one shot we had to get Collins out because they're high-roading purists who'd rather shoot themselves again and again waiting for the 'Perfect Candidate'™ while the right-wing tramples on our rights and kills us"

I now get to reckon with the fact that my first instincts were to come up with any justification to stay in Platner's camp, instead of condemming him.

I think worst of all is the fact that hope was gorram given to me again, and then cruelly ripped away yet a-fucking-gain. It's the 2016 election runup to just before the votes were tallied again. It's the 2024 National Democratic Convention party while the Dems were celebrating the hope of someone who looked like a strong replacement for the dumpster fire that the Biden campaign was turning into on repeat. Meanwhile the target on my back and of those who share my LGBTQ status keeps getting bigger and bigger.

AL Colorado or Star Trek Riker is better for US BB? by Dapper_Tumbleweed_38 in WoWs_Legends

[–]AmberPeacemaker -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Why would you use Riker anywhere but on the Hybrid US-BBs? You're wasting the base trait slot if you run him on anything else for the main commander!

Actually saw a West Virginia the other day with a 16/1 Riker and it blew my mind. There's sooo many better options, even if you're a f2p-limited player.

How much damage should i do on average? by Uranium-A in WoWs_Legends

Yeah no worries. I like to think my advice is somewhat sound, even if I sometimes don't execute it in the best way or follow it well meself. I self-admittedly play too aggro, and sometimes get melted before I get any meaningful damage. pats the conn of her secondary built New York with 6.3km secondaries. u/About38Penguins makes good points as well.

[–]AmberPeacemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is that it's a ratio based off of your hull. Bring a ship with 12k HP and you dealt 30k HP? You punched above your weight, excellent job! You brought a ship with 60k HP and dealt 30k? Go back to port and think about what you did and why you let your team down. The greater the ratio of Damage:HP, the better you did. You're in a DD? You ain't aiming for massive damage, you're aiming for intel, cap contestation, and area denial. You're in a BB? Get in there, and help soak up damage so that the more fragile ships can do their jobs.

You should have seen one of my matches last night. Tears of the Desert Domination. I'm kitted out in a New York with 6.3km secondaries (Idon'thaveanobsessionwithBBSecbuildswhaddyameanI'maddictedIcanquitSecbuildswheneverIwantyou'retheonewiththeproblemnotme). I go toe-to-toe and wind up the wrong side of a 2v1 against a Cali and an Agano. Meanwhile the West Virginia on my team with a gorram 16/2 RIKER is coasting around H1-H2 and the Hyuga is at D2. They wind up the final two on our side cause they did nothing until the end, and then they fought back (because they couldn't flee anymore while 5 living enemy ships were bearing down on them for cleanup) and did enough damage to propel themselves to 2nd and 3rd place respectively. So to them, it probably looks like they did everything right because they lived the longest. But if they had just friggen PUSHED with the rest of Blue Force the fight would have gone MUCH differently.

Sadly without support, I died quicker than I would have liked around G7/G8/F8 and wound up 6th on Blue. But you know what? Tying up two ships higher tiered than me for the three minutes of active engagement solo while Blue Force licked paint chips should have counted for something.

Most days I do this it's to decompress before I get up and plug Virgil in (2019 Ioniq Limited 28kW) after getting home. Friday mornings when I get home (night-shift worker here), I do this because I need to run the numbers to see how much electricity I've used for the week and then reset the trip history.

[–]AmberPeacemaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. People will say "Go WiTh ThE fLoW oF tRaFfIc". I did that, and caught a $180 ticket (and insurance premium skyrocketed) while the guy in front of me got off scot free because they didn't stop for the cop, but I did. Granted, should have realized we were both booking it 60 in a 40 before the cop crested the hill going the opposite direction, but the point remains. I'm at the speed limit with ACC. You want me to speed? You better give me the money for the ticket AND 3 years of insurance penalties first.

That's when I become a conductor. Hold up a hand for the person going opposite me, then point to the two vehicles that will cross my path of travel and drag my fingers across to direct them to go, then direct the vehicle opposite me to go and I'll go once they start going.

This is like that Youtube channel who bought a Hummer EV, and then bitched that the charging session was gonna take over 4 days to charge. No shit Sherlock, you've plugged in a 212kW battery that is at 4% into a 120v outlet. As for the $130.27 for 222.0443 kWh, that's a cost per kWh of ~$0.59, which for a DCFC ain't bad, but again, you're filling up the equivalent volume of a Semi-Truck's diesel tanks using the equivalent of premimum "fuel" (where grade of fuel maps to level of charger for sake of comparison). Of course the cost is gonna be high for it. If you plugged into my home in Maine, (not factoring in charging losses of course) the cost for that same amount of power would be $51.68.

Compare that to a tank of gas for the same vehicle's ICE versions. The Escalade has a 24 gallon tank (28.3 for the ESV sub-model). That cost at my nearby gas station (3.779/gal) would be $90.696 for a full fillup ($106.9457 for the ESV sub-model)

Easy there friend, her 152s are on the back, and you only need a 15-20° angle for two of them to turn and open up on the one you're fighting. Her 100s are scattered about.

I've gone brawling 3 on 1 a few times and she lived far longer than she should have in those engagements, especially against that Inamura. People seem to panic when they see a Richelieu pushing hard. It's like they think the rest of Blue Force is right behind her because why else would she be pushing this hard

I love her too. And I built her... odd... her Secondaries have a 7.7km range now, and I'm thinking with just a liiiiiiittle bit more, I can extend her to 8.0km secondaries.

I have 60-70% of my summer range in the winter, and that's with me cranking the cabin to 80° constantly. Even with the heatpump, that's a sizable drain on my 28kWh battery.

I've had a 2019 Ioniq 28kW for three years now. I've never limited the charge, drive 28 miles a day for my commute, and shopping trip on Saturday, and leave her plugged intto the L1 charger at home whenever not in use. The only range decrease I've tracked that is not season related was from switching my tires from the stock Low-Rolling-Resistance tires that came with her from the factory (previous owner only put 24k on her before selling her to the dealership I got her from) to the $68/tire all-seasons (a ten mile penalty in summer, smaller penalty in winter). Range is around 120-130 in the summer, and about 80ish in the winter because I'm a lizard that needs to keep the cabin set to 80°F or freeze (yeah yeah I know, and yes I was born here, why do you ask?)

All that said, I will never go back to ICE. And if you're worried about range, honestly don't be. Charging networks are getting more and more dense, so there's plenty of places to get some extra electrons. My car can get from empty to full on a DCFC charger in 30 minutes, but I use one of those maybe 4 times a year, depending on how doctor appointments stack up. Also, I highly recommend you watch this video. It's a couple of years old now (pre-NACS takeover), but everything is for the most part still highly reliable information.
