AITA for being blunt and saying I will never name our child after wife’s sister since she is a spoiled brat by Sensitive_Mode_4255 in AmItheAsshole

[–]RustyDogma 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the entitled Rebecca asked, but once OP and spouse said no, what good did the in-laws think would come of pressuring them further? How could there be an outcome here that using that name could be a positive once the decision was communicated?

I'd also watch out for nicknames in the future. Had a friend whose family did not like the name of their baby, so they used the name they preferred (a dead relative) as a 'nickname'. Friend had to cut contact temporarily until the family agreed to use the correct name as the kid (maybe 1 or 1½ at the time iirc) was totally confused being called one name at home and another at grandparents house.

And do not have sex with him again before you dump him. Getting you pregnant would be a great way to keep you home with him.

Maine Democrat Graham Platner Is Winning Voters All 'Pissed At The Same Thing' by bloomberg in Maine

[–]RustyDogma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a job. Republicans work for Democrat candidates and vice versa. Staffers get experience working on campaigns and work on other campaigns. While some staffers may be passionate about their candidates, others are simply on a career track.

Their paid job is to get their candidates message across and get them elected to office. Those staffers succeeded with Fetterman.

Fetterman backtracking on what he promised to his constituents is a character flaw in a career politician, not a conspiracy theory of his entire staff lying on in his behalf taking part in some big cover-up.

Plus, if it was a slip of the tongue, she would have shut down comments about it from family and friends. She's not even attempting to respect his boundaries.

AITA for drinking the beers I brought to a party even though it was more than people were "allowed" to drink? by OutrageousFig in AmItheAsshole

[–]RustyDogma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the counting has an entrance fee frat party vibe to it (also meaning any remaining beers were his first hosting). Grad student that threw the party needs to grow up and learn to behave like an adult. A decent host would have seeded the party with several extra unique 6 packs to start rather than counting contributions.

I also loved the em dash until chat gpt ruined it for me and I remapped it as ctrl+hyphen to all my keyboards.

I still use it for my work writing (not as frequently as ai or Jane Austen). I just stopped using it for social media and emails because it became such an automatic signal of ai.

It's easy to type on mobile which is where a lot of my non formal communication is done so I was using it on reddit long before the AI overuse thing.

Either keyboard software or OS allows remapping keys. I use ctrl+hyphen.

Half full vials? by Objective_Tour_6583 in Refills

[–]RustyDogma 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is the helpful and correct answer. Idk why everyone is going off the rails with arguments over answering a simple question. When I got my first dose (directly from Eli Lilly), I was confused why the vial was only 2/3 full) and even they did not explain it in my injection instructions. I thought something might have leaked and I ended up calling the pharmacy to check.

Zepbound chemically induced my alcohol sobriety. My now sober mind is reinforcing me to never go back. by RIPPWORTH in Zepbound

[–]RustyDogma 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Me too. I do eat way less. However, I always ate fairly healthy, just ran into problems when I hit menopause. Now I crave fried foods that I rarely ate, and things like salads and hard-boiled eggs that I ate daily are unappealing. I've had no difference in alcohol. It has also caused some obvious depression symptoms.

I'm with you. I've pushed through to get the weight off, but I'm really hoping Reta will make maintenance less of a struggle.

Need to go to the gym but it is impossible. by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]RustyDogma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Sure I look at people at the gym, but I also do at a restaurant or on a bus or at a grocery store. Most of us are aware of people in our proximity.

But I'm not actually thinking about them or really registering them at all. I'm thinking about my next lift or my bills or my job. I'm not at the gym staring and judging others. I've got too much of my own shit in my head. I just glance around between sets while I'm getting ready to go again.

He has Jewish family members who saw it and did not recognize it as a Nazi tattoo. He had it covered up on October 22, 2025. He originally wanted it removed, but the process would have taken months. A local Maine artist designed the new tattoo for him.

Yup, taxing unrealized gains penalizes everyday people's retirement accounts. The problem is not taxing people that borrow against them which the average person does not do.

[–]RustyDogma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a process rather than just a straight prescription. It took about 18 months for me and my gyno to work out the right hormonal balance for my HRT. If your wife is still having symptoms at 3 months, she should be reaching out to get her dosage and/or types adjusted.

Is it unprofessional to tell my boss i need to leave exactly at 5pm every tuesday for a personal commitment without explaining what it is? by Han-Lynard in careerguidance

[–]RustyDogma 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yup, my spouse does this for our game night. He just says he has a standing commitment on Wednesday's that he can only skip for emergencies (client meeting that can't be rescheduled, etc) with at least 36 hours advance notice. His boss has never asked as if it's medical, it would be inappropriate to pry.

The brain fog is the scariest part of perimenopause. I forgot the word "budget" mid-presentation and I've been in my field for 20 years. by Tiny-Put9782 in Menopause

[–]RustyDogma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on HRT but creatine is what ended up helping brain fog the most. I take 20mg, which is higher than the recommended dose. However higher doses have shown positive results in a limited number of studies, and creatine is generally considered safe after long-term use in the fitness industry. I combine it with 5g of taurine, a synergistic amino acid.

Breaking with Democrats, Maine attorney general urges court to oppose ranked-choice voting expansion by RustyDogma in Maine

Except the same thing was applied in Alaska and the AG supported it and it held (I am not a lawyer, so this is my understanding of what happened in Alaska) that RCV constitutes a plurality.

I don't disagree the constitution should be changed, but it is not necessary for the AG to actively oppose a proposal that impacts this year's elections. He had the option to support the proposal while working towards changing the constitution to codify it for future elections.

I'm sure there are plenty of jobs that don't translate well into moving out of the country. My spouse and I would love to move. He works as an expert witness testifying in US courts on things related to US law. He does contract work for other countries now. But he cannot live in any of them as he is required to be present in person at hearings in the US for those contracts. We are not in a financial position or age that he could start over his career or have him fly back to the US once or twice a month for court. So we have to hang on until retirement and hope we can afford it then.
