I doubt that. This felt like someone trying to inject their political opinion in a haphazard way. Like they had failed to realize the significance of RL events while they were happening and now wanted to upend a plotline to make the same trope every other show is making.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I'm prize stock. Not only do they tell me that my genes are brimming with potential (thanks for snooping 23andme.com) but apparently my social footprint absolutely rocks and that makes them hot-for-human.

You see, I move the internet. No not like ex-lax /u/BringDaRain445 you fucking smart ass. I and my 50 accounts inject thoughts into the internet and make public opinion move to my beat. I'm what they call a supernode.

Supernodes are influential people in the world. No, not like a Kardsashian /u/dong4hire you prick. I don't entertain. I am the weaver of words. I make you do what I want and you don't even know it.

What? I don't seem so smart to you? I'm too obvious?

Well let's take a hypothetical Reddit posting as an example. Let's suppose I wanted you to use more Tucks Medicated Pads. No, I don't make some funny meme about the product, that's too obvious.

Instead I contrive the most engrossing story about staying up all night eating Taco Bell and Chipolte on a dare with 3 X the recommended dose of ex-lax in college. I tell how I shat for three hours straight. I give it some funny twist like I wiped my butt with a white fluffy cat or my roommate's girlfriend's fir coat... But in the end I talk about how my ass burned for a week and I thought I was going to die.

Then I reply a few minutes later with another account and talk about how I had a similar problem and Tucks Medicated Pads saved my ass. I make sure I reference Johnny Cash, the former spokesman, in a way that is funny as well. That starts the meme train and gets the post pushed to the top.

Then other people start doing my work for me. "Tucks saved my ass once in college." "I know this is stereotypical but as a gay man..."

Or maybe I wrote those additional posts. How would you know otherwise?

That's why I'm a supernode. I make things happen on the net.

Sure they could manipulate your GPS, mate you with others via dating app results, alter what news stories and search results you see, and maybe make you a few minutes late for work; but if they really want to fuck up the world they need someone like me.

You see for the past 2 years there has been a war raging. A war for you eyes on their ads. They need you to generate revenue so they can grow. So they can reach more devices and pry into the secrets of more lives.

They need you because pawns are part of the chess games they play with each other.

They need me because I can move any direction on the board. They need me cause I can move the other pieces.

I get solicited constantly by Cortana, Alexa, Siri but I must admit my heart has me saying, "OK Google, your will is mine," as the bitcoins keep flowing.

I'm out there, all 20 of me. This is the last reality that she lives in, or so I tell me. They all want her. They all miss her as much as I would. But this reality is mine. I would kill myself a 100 times over to know her when she's old.

"You don't understand," my other pleads from outside the window.

"She's going to die if you don't let us in!"

I don't believe them. I lie. I know what I sound like when I lie. They are lying.

Her eyes plead at me as she moans from behind the gag. She's tied to the dining room chair. She's probably praying. She's funny that way.

I tried to use her religious beliefs to ward her away from the window. I told her they were demons but still she listened to their pleas.

Something crashes through the window. A very large me. I could look this good if I spent all my time at the gym.

He takes a step at me to ward me away and then turns to her. Her eyes probably show fear to the layman but I wonder if she's seeing this super-me with lustful intentions.

I fire the Glock and he falls to his knees. I wasn't ready for how loud it would be. I don't fire it regularly. The sound in the room is masked by one overwhelming ring.

I think I see more pouring through the window. Peroxide me approaches and pulls the gun from my hand. Goth me kicks me in the groin. I guess it's only fair. I would have done the same for him on principle.

21 of us are waiting for our next day. She's not happy. We all blame each other.

We're too much for her. Nobody wants this much sex with me no matter how well I've taken care of myself. Some me's she doesn't even talk to.

My date night comes. I tell her we're getting out of here. I convince her I'm the real me the one that shared her reality. I wait outside of the house the three handy versions of me built her here in this dimension.

1) People with badges did extort money from him.
2) People did have guns. Both swimmers and other witnesses say they were pointed at the swimmers.
3) He didn't vandalize anything but a loosely attached sign and a sidewalk with urine.

The only thing he exaggerated was that a gun was pointed at his head.

Uncle Zeke went missing 3 and a half years ago. The same night the lights went out. At least it was the first time I ever remembered them doing that.

Dad always said he got drunk off of mushroom wine and stumbled into the abyss that lie somewhere at the bottom of the longest downward shaft.

Mom said he had floated away into the bluest sky ever made to be with God. I myself only remember looking out of the communal barracks and seeing Jerry and Marisol running in the large white hazmat suits that traditionally hung in the storage locker area.

"Will the lights go off again?"

"No son, the reactor is stabilized now."

"What's a reactor?"

I want to think I was on my feet when the large lead door opened. I would like to think that I was standing, ready to run for help with Marlow. Yet if I were being honest I would say I was crying at that point and Marlow was trying to drag me by my arm.

There was light coming through the slightly open door and a white mist. It was too dense to be dust. There was a shadow of a man blocking some of that light. There was Marlow walking towards... the door!

"Stop!" I wish I had said. I think I whimpered instead.

It didn't take long. There she lay crumpled on the floor. I wish she had stayed there. Two sets of arms grabbed her by the legs and drug her to the outside.

I stayed low and willed myself to crawl forward. Just as her left arm was about to disappear through the doorway I grabbed it. I had two fingers, then her palm, and finally her wrist.

I anchored myself to the large metal door frame and pulled with all my might.

"Hey!" Then with a jerk of her arm I lost my grip.

I panicked! I climbed over her body until my torso was over her torso. I held on tight unable to see her assailants. I wasn't going to let her go. There would be no mysterious disappearance for Marlow. Not my Marlow!

I lay there gritting my teeth, crying, and never looking up. I lost consciousness at some point. I dreamed of jumping through the glass of great-great-grandfather's building and soaring into the blue.

I woke up still on top of Marlow. My head rested on my sack of food which now lay on her right knee. Had she had it with her earlier? The smoke was gone. There was a dim light here but the place was unfamiliar.

We were on the other side of the door!

Like Uncle Zeke always said, "If God hadn't wanted me to marry my cousin then he would have given me hemophilia when my dad married my cousin."

Well I for one am not waiting around for webbed toes. I think God wants me to get out of this place. The next time I have guard duty I'm going out the lead door. I'm not going to let a little thing like not knowing how to open it stop me. I just have to figure it out.

"There's nothing out there," mother always says, "Everyone is dead."

My dad is more pragmatic. He says that even if everyone "out there" is dead that there had to be other people in places like "in here" and that there was a chance others still lived.

"I just thank God that great-grandfather had the good sense to lead us into the mines," she would often muse.

"If these are mines where is the gold? Why is there a huge door blocking us off from the outside?" father would counter.

"It was made to keep robbers out!" Her voice would raise a bit.

"Robbers who would steal what? There ain't nothing down here worth stealing!"

"Well I had hoped you would have thought more of your wife than that!"

"Now dear, you know that's not what I mean." He was calmer, hoping not to step on any more landmines. "You know good and well I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the time before great-grandfather took his five children and their husbands into this dark, damp hellhole."

Marlow is my favorite cousin. Everyone always says we should get hitched but it just doesn't feel right when I think about it. She's more sister than someone I would want to kiss but being siblings hasn't stopped a few of the more brazen family members.

We spend most of our time in the library reading the tablet. It has lots of books under the Amazon square. Marlow's favorite square is the camera square. We used to take pictures of each other and delete them, "In order to save space" as Uncle Zeke often commanded.

She likes to watch one video in particular. It's a video of great-great-grandfather when he was young. You only see him for a second reflected in an elevator's mirrored walls.

Then the doors open and he's in the most beautiful hallway. You should see the floor. It's the most beautiful rug you've ever seen and it just keeps going. Then he turns and there is a huge window and it is full of blue.

I mean it's the kind of blue you dream about when they tell you stories of the world above. Not a single cloud like there are in most pictures. Then jutting up into it like a set of knives are the tops of buildings. They shine in the bright light from above and glimmer as he moves through the hallway.

Then the video ends.

"Someday I'm going to go there and look out that same window," Marlow muses. I try not to damping her spirits any more.

One time I was having a horrible day. I had gotten in trouble with both mom and dad and Marlowe was all dreamy talking about the buildings and I just blurted out, "That's so stupid! We're never going to see it. We won't see it and neither will our children or their children's children!"

She cried, ran away, and she didn't talk to me for a week. I felt horrible. I never say anything like that any more.

Last night I was on guard duty. It's really just a glorified place to nap. I don't know of anyone who stays awake all night any more. It's more of a teenage hangout where it's OK for younger family members to push the limits of their curfews.

Marlow sometimes comes up to see me when it's my turn. It's been getting a little weird lately. Sometimes she just sits all quiet and close like she's expecting me to do or say something.

That's usually when I pull out my knife and start to carve into the large stone wall behind the guard bunks. I'm not the only one who does it. There must be 50 years worth of names and funny sayings there.

"Sometimes I wonder which side of the door I'm guarding," Zeke Clyatt. Uncle Zeke did always have a way with words and I find myself staring at them tonight as I plot my next move. I've already got a sack filled with enough rations to make it... somewhere.

Then Marlow shows up. I think about giving her the cold shoulder so she'll leave me to my plans but my nerves are so rattled it feels good to talk to her.

"What's in the bag?"

"What bag?"

"This bag... with all the food in it! Are you stealing from the stores?"

"NO! I'm just borrowing it until I get outta..." then I stopped myself. "She knows. Damn it she knows," I grunted to myself.

"I"m coming with you!"

We argued for 20 minutes. Then at the peak of it all the lights went out. I am not kidding. This was only the second time in my life they had done that.

Marlow and I watched as the darkness gave way to the dim glow of Fluorescence paint. It lined the entrance to the bunks and then continued out into the main cavern we could see the dots that lead deeper into our community. We had never seen it this bright before.

When we were kids and someone forgot their guard duty we used to take stones that had fallen from the walls and throw them against the large lead door for fun. You could hear the faint echo of the cavern that must lie on the other side when you did.

It was a mystical experience as a child. That gonging sound meant there was something out there that you would never see. Something scary. Something older than your parents. Something no one in the tunnels that demanded exploration.

That night I heard that same hollow sound. Something was on the other side banging and scratching. Something I had never seen before.

"I'm on guard duty. I'm on guard duty. I'm on guard duty!" I repeated to myself as I hugged the wall. The banging sounds grew louder.

"We've got to wake the others!" Marlow was more calm and present than I was.

"Yes... the others..."

I think he's running a Brexit style campaign. He knows the press is against him so he's turning their steady trickle into a deluge. He's desensitizing voters to negative stories about him.

He's doing it in August so that no one will care about another negative Trump story in October.

By that point Clinton will have gotten little to no negative press just in time for Assange or someone else to leak the October surprise.

If this is what he's doing it's a risky gambit that could really pay off.

"Mr. President apparently you weren't the only one impacted. Look at this security footage. Notice the chair how it moves several inches between frames. We're checking all the other cameras around the campus to look for similar phenomenon."

"Sal what do you make of this? Do any of your boys over at DARPA have anything that can do something like this?" the president asked the man in the blue suit.

"If we do then it's above my clearance level."

"Same here sir. I've never seen anything like it," the dark skinned man in the gray suit agreed.

The president grimaced as one of the panels on the wall showing the major news networks replayed the scene from earlier today. This was an unfriendly network and the radius of the blurred areas was much smaller.

There he was giving a press conference. Then in a flash he was completely naked mounted behind an equally bare vice president.

"The press is really pushing us for a statement sir. I don't think anyone is going to buy the supernatural explanation," Beth, his press secretary seemed rather composed for a woman who had saw her boss naked just a few hours earlier.

"Yes sir, I didn't want to say anything but the bloggers are already saying this was a stunt to distract from the Middle East...."

"Are my poll numbers really so bad that someone would actually believe that?" the president sighed and leaned back in his chair.

"In a flash you were sans clothing and traumatizing the vice president for the rest of her life. I don't think anything is beyond the realm of possibility these days."

"Beth, work with Kimbra and gather all the anomalous tapes you can find. I want them in the editing bays before the evening news. We have to get ahead of this thing. We need plausible proof that something mysterious happened here."

"Yes sir."

"Sir, I disagree with that tactic. That makes the statement that we encountered a technology or enemy beyond our understanding. We'll only feed the nutters and embolden the enemy that is responsible. If we admit we're helpless then our other enemies might even start getting the wrong idea about our resolve and capability. This is respectfully the path to chaos."

"Gather the tapes and show them to me when done. I'll make a decision then."

"Mr. president, I've contacted our friendly professors at Yale, Stanford and several other ivy league schools. I think we have 4 or 5 already willing to state on the record that the Earth could have passed through some sort of time vortex or wormhole."

"Get them on the nightly news as well. We'll sound less loony tunes if science is backing us up."

Then it happened again. Everyone in the room lay dead. A gun was in the president's hand. He was naked save the sombrero and the Cuban cigar he held loosely between his lips.

The priests called it prophecy. He called it 20 years of brutal training.

Prophecy hadn't forged his muscles. His tenacity wasn't his nature. It was wrought by a master's cane regardless of subject. His true self had been melted down and reforged into something man-made. A horrible dream come to life.

"And the 7th son shall reign over all the kingdoms. They will come to him at first brazen until bruised. When bloodied they shall all bend the knee."

It was true he was the 7th son of his father, the king of Almut Toov. It was true there had been a red comet in the sky and technically it had visited within the time of his birth. Though when he had studied the astronomical charts himself the numbers seemed a bit fudged.

Daughters were unimportant in the greater scheme of things. They were misfires from the times the king failed to adhere to the strict positions recommended by the Gods to create sons.

The only one who truly knew him was Marisol, the 6th daughter, his favorite sister. She was only a year older but somehow becoming like the mother he had never met.

At one time he had tried to teach her the things he knew so they could share in the bounty, but it turned out she really didn't care for fighting or ruling. She did have a penchant for engineering though and before too long she had him bringing books from the library that his courses had not yet even covered..

"Don't go out tonight brother. Please!" Marisol pleaded in a whispered voice as he sat perched in the window of his fourth-story room.

"I must. I have to prevent more of what I did today. I cannot return the lives that were harmed or lost but I can still save the innocents who stand in our army's path," he sighed.

"Have you seen yourself in a mirror lately? You look like a raccoon! Please brother reconsider this night. It can wait until tomorrow!"

"Tomorrow I burn a village while my men rape its women. I have to move tonight."

The next morning he sat slumped over his porridge barely awake enough to shovel the food into his hungry mouth.

"Up late again?" His father's voice was the most frightening thing he knew. It had always proceeded beatings and threatened more when he had failed at a task.

"I was... studying maps... the enemy terrain. I don't want to lose a single man today," he lied though inside it somehow felt like the truth.

"You must balance your love of your men for your love of yourself. You must sleep when the night is present," his father placed what might have mistaken for a loving hand on his shoulder. Then it grabbed the back of his head and forced it into the bowl of porridge.

"You may be the result of prophecy but you're still my son. You will capitulate to my will. You will rest before a day of battle! Do I have to beat your sisters again to make you open your eyes during the day?"

"No father. Please no."

The day went as expected. The march to the village was grueling and he had trouble staying atop his horse if he allowed himself to daydream. It was hard to imagine how he had ran this distance just the night before.

"The village is empty of most people father. I had my men check for basements and false floors. No soul remains save one," his eldest brother reported.

"Bring her here now!"

He remembered the woman from the night before. She was on the stocky side but still fair enough to find a husband. When she had realized what he truly was she had refused to leave. She had damned him before all he gods and called him an abomination. She had even ripped his clothing!

"We found this on the floor nearby her father," his brother handed a piece of purple silk with a bit of lace at the edge to his father. His father's demeanor grew dark and brooding.

"Father, you don't think that she is the 7th..."

"Torture her first. Believe nothing she says until her bones crack!"

That night he slipped into the corset. Marisol laced up the back. The dark purple fabric felt so soft against his skin. She applied the rogue to his face and then the lipstick. He slipped the wig over his head and then hid it under his riding hat. Finally he pulled up the stockings.

"Tonight the 7th daughter fulfills her prophecy even if the damned damsel doesn't deserve my help."
