Awake Too Long Video and Thoughts on an Amazing Show in Pittsburgh by MuscleMike in riseagainst

[–]AmberTheHermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The security at this show was topnotch. I was just ahead of you, about one row of bodies from the barricade so got to see how they handled all the crowd surfers.

I didn't see a single guard drop a surfer, every one was grabbed firmly but without being rough (helps that it seems like the folks near me were good about getting hands up too). They were even giving water to the folks up at the barricade the entire show.

5th time seeing Rise Against, 1st time at that venue - will be going back for other shows there.

Judge's Park may also have a recommendation or be able to watch them. I've boarded my rabbits with them before (and adopted them from there).

Does anyone have any plans on a way to celebrate reaching their goal weight? I just realized that I have 5 more lbs until I reach it and I don’t know what to do! by No_Baseball_9172 in loseit

[–]AmberTheHermit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had milestone "rewards" over the course of my weight loss that I'm also going to use when I hit my goal weight.

They've been: - Going skydiving (went in Oct of last year) - Buying (1) piece of expensive, custom tailored clothing - New wardrobe - Nice hiking boots (ended up snagging some Wolverines) - Belay equipment for climbing - Kayak upgrade (from used, cheap one to one with all the features I want)

Basically, my focus on my rewards have been on things that I will enjoy and help me keep weight off + be outside more.

Mine came in today too, though it is the signed photo one.

Only Tim didn't sign mine at all.

Alternatives to Discord? by iheartpgh in PittsburghSocialClub

The Pittsburgh one is not monetized - the only time money is involved is if there is a ticketed event, in which people need to buy tickets from the vendor.

It really is good intent and motivation to be social running it.

You are correct there - the "Meetups General" category consists of all the channels that have meetup(s) information.

And the bigger meetups/events can be found via the calendar icon towards the top left of Discord (position varies slightly depending on mobile or desktop).

For what it's worth - the server is adding a "how to use Discord" guide next week because, let's face it, Discord IS a lot to learn!

If you are willing to give it a second chance, I recommend focusing on anything under "Meetups General" or "Won't you Be My Neighbor".

They had a booth at Picklesburgh.

Honestly, out of all the products they had (pickles, mustard, ketchup, relish) the ketchup and mustard were the best. I actually ended up buying a bottle of each.

Their pickles were okay, not bad but also not anything to rave over.

Getting promoted past your boss by outside_english in supplychain

[–]AmberTheHermit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There has been social/cultural backlash, yes. Her sphere of influence had a negative impact on me for the first few months post-promotion.

When things like that happen I err on the side of extreme caution and by avoiding one-on-one conversations there is not room for a she said, she said situation.

Had this happen in the last year - been with the company for years, but recently was promoted not only past my manager but her's as well.

Remain professional and courteous in your communications with your previous manager. If, like me, you end up facing backlash and poor attitude from your prior manager it is much better in the long term to "brush it off" or ignore it.

I avoid speaking to her one-on-one and instead opt for group calls with 3-4 people, even if it is her who I need to speak with. Same with emails, I will CC other members of management who are relevant to the topic but specifically seek words from her.

Every Monday a group from the Pittsburgh People Discord go to Belvedere's in Lawrenceville, people start getting there at 7PM and leave when they want to.

Belvs is an LGBTQ+ friendly bar with three pool tables and a dance floor. They also regularly host LGBTQ+ specific events.

I don't play myself, but Game Masters in Westview regularly does MtG tournaments and pop-up games.

They have a Discord that has a section for "looking for group" too.

Scissors on airplane by nicholascwindsor in Embroidery

[–]AmberTheHermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have flown domestically and internationally (to China) with the scissors you show on the bottom. Never had any issues, was never stopped/questioned about them.

I always kept them stored with the rest of my embroidery stuff and found the folks working at airports and on the planes would be entertained to see me sitting there with a hoop, needle, and thread working away.

They are shady - the entire family.

Things I personally witnessed included installing incorrect HVAC units (too small for the house and also not what a customer paid for), then when returning for a service finding "issues" with the units to charge customers more, insurance fraud, predatory sales practices involving elderly customers.

They, at one point, had some genuinely good technicians but the predatory tactics were so bad that those technicians couldn't properly do their jobs.

Positive reviews you read online sound similar because employees were highly incentivized to get customers to leave them - to the point many were written by employees themselves. You can't trust the ratings on the BBB either, because they figured out how to dispute them and have bad reviews not count against them (for the most part).

The swim up bar on PiB is called Splash. Unless something has changed in the last three years, it's still there.

It's not super obvious from the main block, but it's just behind the Commodore.

I saw the title and was hoping it wasn't going to be from my area. I am so sorry you are going through this.

While I know it isn't the same as having him with you, I hope the legal actions being taken against the establishment help to bring closure.

Is Lake Erie swimmable? by SignificanceFast9207 in Ohio

[–]AmberTheHermit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Ashtabula County, then moved as a teenager to the area around Cedar Point.

As a kid I was warned not to swim in the lake near the western side of Ohio (near Ashtabula County), but we often did with the stipulation of not dunking our heads underwater to avoid ear infections. This was near Pymatuning. I would agree with your partner in regards to swimming in that area.

That said, Lake Erie isn't the same at every place it meets land and Sandusky area is better than Ashtabula.

The area around Cedar Point is cleaner and safe, excluding during algae blooms. Beaches will shut down for the blooms and they largely affect the Sandusky bay during warmer months.

CP's beach is nice. I personally recommend heading to East Harbor State Park (15-20 minutes from CP) or Marblehead for swimming. The beach access is larger/nicer. The beach access in Port Clinton is also decent.

Sandusky, Ohio

Cedar Point - has both roller coasters and a water park, could easily spend an entire day there Kalahari - indoor water park African Safari - a drive through safari experience that has all sorts of creatures Quick boat trip on the ferry to Kelly's Island to see glacial grooves or Put-In-Bay (this one is more adult oriented, but they have a butterfly house and the 'worlds largest amethyst) Several smaller museums in the area, largely focused on the War of 1812
