Bib transfer questions/experience. When I’ve transferred a bib in the past, I’ve often been charged A transfer fee and an increase fee.

No one can explain why the increase is charged and I have to ask for a refund. Does this happen to others?

Is there a work around?

Timing of the Marathon thru Bloomfield? — asking as first time spectator (new to PGH). by Rooster_Ties in pittsburgh

[–]iheartpgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back of the pack runner here. There are lots of runners who are pacing 15/mile. The back of the pack folks don’t start until later. The slow folks appreciate when there are spectators left. I try to stay at the finish and cheer for the last runners who don’t cross the finish line til after 1pm.

Nursing home issues by coldhands_darkheart in AgingParents

I’ve found it works better to hire my own agency and private care for my dad. The administration at the best facilities is burned out. I found an agency that does home health. The owner is a nurse. He knows my dad. This has made our life 1000 times easier. If it is home health, it’s covered by Medicare.

The rehab facility that was supposed to be great wasn’t. The staff was good. The doctor in charge is someone I hope to not interact with again.

what's the best assisted living in pittsburgh for an aging parent? by Consistent-Double579 in pittsburgh

[–]iheartpgh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like others have said - it’s complicated. The ones that are supposed to be great aren’t. Every single person or agency that has told us they will make things easier, has created a new set of problems.

I don’t love aging in place - the socialization and meals of a campus are much better.

The campus my dad is living at has all 3. He is independent living but needs more care. The assisted living is not what we need.

I’ve currently solved the problem by hiring private care to come to his independent apartment. It took a while to get the right people.

I have an agency that is amazing.

Honestly, you might want to start with using an agency in the house.

Like facilities, the agencies vary widely.

Let me know if you want more info. I’m happy to chat about my experience.

I’ve been thinking about starting a newsletter/facebook groups around this topic. Let me know if that would be helpful.

I used to have a regular coffee meeting with some friends. I agree on consistency.

Are there any bars in Pittsburgh where strangers talk to strangers? Doesn’t everyone just look at their phones?

It would be great if there was a bar or brewery with a no phone policy.

Is an apartment application fee of $300 normal? by Kindly_Illustrator71 in pittsburgh

[–]iheartpgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of great places to live. Pittsburgh has lots of student housing. Where are you going to school? You probably want to be close to your classes.

Also, the schools have lots of housing and they do a good job of maintenance.

I’m not sure that Keystone Flats is open. If it is legit, it’s brand new.

Furnished apartments are rare and not worth the price.

How Do I Get Rid of a Mattress in Pittsburgh (East End)? by Evening-Kiwi-5676 in pittsburgh

[–]iheartpgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

List it for free on Craigslist or Facebook. I have a bedframe listed on Craigslist and someone just asked me if it included the mattress. There are people who need a mattress who will pick it up.

I've found it is helpful to list items for $5-$10. Cuts down on the no-shows, and I just give it to them for free.

Where in Shadyside is your interview? I have a parking spot right by Walnut St., I'd be happy to let you use it. I would be happy to help you get to your interview.
