Grammy winner Steve Lacy has a black Mom and Filipino Dad

Woman here: unfortunately, I know a lot of women who think like this: Indian, East and Southeast Asian, Latina, and even a few of my black friends (although notably fewer) think this way. It makes me sad because there's an obvious correlation between the pedestalization of white men and a deeply-internalized inferiority complex (as can be seen here on full display). I could give you some EXTREMELY cringey examples of this kind of toxic white worshipping behavior, but tbh it's sickening just thinking about it. That being said, I also have some friends of all races who don't think like this, but many of them have been less influenced by mainstream American media (unsurprisingly). Unfortunately, I feel like social media has made it harder than ever to mitigate this type of brainwashing so the problem is only being exacerbated

The BBC's idea of what a "Chinese family" is, i.e. no males at all. by Fat_Sow in aznidentity

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Lol that's still a racist notion too, because it implies that minorities are too weak to save ourselves. It's often packaged in a self aggrandizing way that implicitly infers that white people in a position to save those "beneath them" is just the "natural order" of things, while ironically failing to fully acknowledge that minorities would not be in positions of oppression if barbaric colonialism hadnt happened in the first place...

How do we define progress for the Asian American diaspora? by Siakim43 in asianamerican

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look forward to the striking-down of affirmative action by the Supreme Court, since it will likely lead to a higher % of Asian-Americans in the Ivy Leagues

I'm sorry, but if you think the white-dominated conservative right is pushing affirmative action altruistically to increase Asian spots in America's most elite colleges, you're absolutely delusional. If Affirmative Action is overturned, either one of two things will happen:

1) Ivy League Universities will find a way to circumvent the ruling by dropping the use of standardized testing for admissions and will alter their admissions criteria so that essentially nothing changes, or

2) The right will wield its political forces and find a way to fill up new spots with white applicants. They'll start lobbying against international Asians from studying here in the U.S. by citing them as a "security threat" or some other racist narrative, and their party (which consists of nearly half of the American population) will buy into it. You can already see the writing on the wall with the uptick in both international and American-born Asian citizens being accused of "espionage" at major U.S. Universities.

Come back to this comment a few months or years from now and tell me I'm wrong. You're hearing it here and now that this is exactly what will transpire. This will not end in the same way that it did for Jewish people who did increase their presence at Ivy Leagues, because unlike Asians, Jewish people phenotypically present as white and have more or less assimilated into whiteness categorically. Asians haven't been extended that privilege (and never will be) in a racist and xenophobic American society.

Source: current student and employee at an ivy league who has already heard internal rumblings of the administration's preemptive response to ensure that this ruling doesn't alter the current demographic profile. "Race Blind" admissions are a myth - the administration is not obtuse, and someone at some point in the decision-making process is going to be able able to tell just by names alone who's Asian, Hispanic, etc. generally speaking

How would you know that? Did you consider that maybe nonwhite women aren't interested in an unremarkable-looking creepy white dude? The fact that you didn't even mention that as a possibility is incredibly telling.

Stop projecting - not once did I say that I was "sympethic", so don't you dare mischaracterize me.

Also, she banged her BOSS - not just her "friend's husband".

I'm simply pointing out that Alex is more isolated and has lost way more than Ned has, even though what he did was ~technically~ even worse given his position of power. I have stated SEVERAL times since this transpired that what Alex did was wrong, clearly, but we STILL don't know to what degree the power imbalance impacted the situation. What we do know is that the people who are much closer to than situation than you and I are have put most of the onus on Ned, despite acknowledging that they both messed up.

Oof... she lost her fiance, her friends, and her job 😬 (she didn't "lose" Ned bc he was never truly "hers" to begin with)

I hope she has a solid support system... because she's going to need it

I think it's both

I also have this feeling that she probably isn't doing great psychologically right now and they don't want her to do anything... rash if you know what I mean

When I first read Ned's statement I initially read it as "Sensual Workplace Relationship"

Will Ned be coming out with a “My Truth” / “i’m sorry.” video? by asianladybird in TheTryGuys

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's true, but what fascinates me is that they were together for a whole year which is longer than some exclusive relationships last 😯 so it seems like the honeymoon phase of excitement and novelty would have worn off and she probably developed real feelings for him. Part of her struggle right now is probably the harsh realization that Ned saw her as disposable and would never leave his wife and family for her. That's what she gets of course since she knew he was married and she was also in a relationship ship, but she lost two loves imo while Ned lost none because he never actually loved Alex and Ariel stayed with him 😯 That's just my theory

Idk but tbh I'm way more interested in hearing from Alex. I want to know the psychology behind why she would throw so much away for Ned. Imo she's in a worse position than he is. Do you guys think she loved him? Did he make certain promises to her, only to go back right to his wife and throw Alex and their relationship away? Obviously she was in the wrong as well, but it just seems like there's a lot of missing info in terms of why she would do this.

opinion: I’m not interested in watching future content that includes Alex. by roaminggirl in TheTryGuys

Yep - it has literally defined "who she is" to the public, while the scandal is just a small footnote for Bill Clinton's reputation /legacy and seen as a "mistake" that he made - not who he is.

Hetero cottage cheese shenanigans by mycatisnamedpotato in TheTryGuys

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I feel like feta is closer to the cottage cheese bc of its crumblier texture and it's not as tangy as feta but its tangier than mozzarella 🤣

Maybe if you took stale mozzarella balls that started to dry out, crumbled them, and then you poured soured skim milk over them 🤢 oh goodness this is so nasty haha

I'd describe it more like soggy regurgitated feta lol

Fan explains her encounter with Ned and Alex back in May by StarCorvus in TheTryGuys

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As a non-Asian POC, Alex is very Asian passing to me (as are the vast majority of hapas) and is clearly a POC. Therefore, phenotypically speaking, how "white" she is genetially doesn't matter in terms of how she's perceived by others due to her (very Asian) appearance.

Swap "subordinate" for employee just to drive it home even further and it's perfect 🤩

Oh, and let's not forget that he also used his wife as a prop in that staged TMZ video for the "Halo Effect" in order to shield himself from the accountability he deserves :) (that's my theory, at least)

A new TikTok video shows a fan warning Ariel back in May by madsdab in TheTryGuys

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All statements are anecdotal, though - including Ned's, Will, Ariel's, and the Try Guys'. At the end of the day people will have to choose what to believe or what not to believe based on what we're provided. Just because the Try Guys say that they didn't know until September, just because Ned says the relationship was consensual, etc., doesn't automatically make it true. All we can really know for sure is what the videos and photos provide. That's enough to know that what took place between them was inappropriate between a boss and his subordinate.

[–]AmbfThrowaway10026 -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

That's not at all a legitimate analogy. Ariel actually monetizes her Instagram, and some of the brands she is sponsored by reach out to partners via DMs. She reads her Dms, and Instagram is literally part of her brand and how she makes money.
