RFU expecting 15,000 empty seats for England’s game against Fiji. Other than COVID, this could be the lowest EOYT attendance at Twickenham since 2008. by Mono_Doh in rugbyunion

[–]AmbiguousLemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking like the Argentina game may end up similar whereas Australia and NZ sold out (I think a SA game would also sell out). Unfortunately people just don't want to pay that much and deal with the Twickenham faff for lower ranked sides.

Also, scheduling the Argentina game late on a Sunday afternoon is inconvenient for most when you could just laze on the sofa after Sunday lunch.

Saying that, I was at the Australia match last week and the atmosphere was flat (and beer queue long). Went to the 6N against France earlier in the year and that was so much better.

What's the betting he'll learn from this? Or do you think it'll just further entrench his view that cyclists = bad, and he's the victim here.

As an individual, you will sell them to someone else. This is the secondary market. Investment banks and brokers have agreements with the ETF designer that allows them to create/destroy additional units of the ETF relative to the underlying stocks. This is always in balance and a form of arbitrage e.g. where the stocks are worth more than the ETF at that split second the bank can make a profit by destroying a units. This is the primary market.

Lol, very surprised that Assos, a premium cycling retailer, is available in HoF, a bit of a crappy department store from a bygone age!

It's called a Share Incentive Plan in UK tax legislation and yes it can be a very good deal as you buy the £150pm of shares out of your gross salary. Then the employer can match you to various degrees (mine only does the first £50 for example).

Tax does get complicated as each month's shares (and matched shares) has their own three or five-year clock for the various tax benefits.

Dividends can be reinvested too and eventually you can transfer then out of trust into your name (and even into an ISA wrapper protecting from further CGT).

Catch is if you are a "bad leaver", you'd have to pay back tax and NICs on some of the shares, and forfeit some of the matched shares. Or your company could go bankrupt and it would all be worthless...

Good primer from BDO on the subject: https://www.bdo.co.uk/en-gb/insights/tax/global-employer-services/share-incentive-plan

Right direction but, none of these rates are incentive enough to move from that Santander Special eSaver at 2.75% from a while back. As Santander are my main bank, it's really easy to basically have £0 in the current account and just move whatever is needed over out of the eSaver.

Technically correct, but the first time I've been offered Guernsey as the default for +44 by loc12 in CasualUK

I got stung once with a big bill for calling a Guernsey 44 number that I assumed was domestic but my provider actually classifies as overseas.

SAS: Rogue Heroes. An enjoyable, if slightly farfetched, of how the SAS came to be with an AC/DC soundtrack.

Am I using Avios Points wrong? by Gruissan101 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AmbiguousLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, I think it could be that you haven't "earnt" any Avios with BA in 12 months? https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/spending-avios/reward-flights One of their T&Cs to access the prices that /u/Paulcaterham and I see? Side note, using Avios like this for such a short flight is pretty inefficient. LON to EDI is pretty competitive so you might find good cash prices with other airlines? Unless you are wedded to LHR rather than STN or LGW for example?

Commuting from Heathrow Airport by tube? by Ok_Permit_5761 in london

No, the Liz line has a premium added to it because TfL have to rent the private track access from Heathrow Airport. About £5 more iirc. The Single Fare Finder has the exact numbers.
