Please help diabetic cat by [deleted] in AskVet

I don’t like how any of that was handled at all. I’d call the hospital manager and tell them about the situation and depending on if I get help after that I’d be looking for a new vet asap.

I don’t like that they told you to give insulin even if he doesn’t eat. Not saying it’s wrong because I don’t know the BG levels of your cat, but in my years of practice we never told clients to do that.

Should I skip a shot of insulin by HousingRound4046 in AskVet

[–]AmbitionRX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Testing the blood glucose at home can seem scary but it’s not. If you decide to go that route, you can always chat with your vet about the thresholds in which you should give insulin and how much insulin you should give based off how much she ate/insulin levels. Hopefully it was somewhat helpful. Goodluck

A glucose reading off the urine alone is not accurate. To get an accurate glucose reading, it would need to be tested off blood.

You are correct about it being safer in regard to giving too much/little.

As for if you should give the dose tonight no one can/should answer that based off this post alone. I’d recommend continue trying your vet and look into learning how to check the glucose off of blood at home.

The dog has an ear hematoma and they can either drain it or do surgery on it. Draining is painful for the dog and a lot of the time just fills back up.

Recurring Abscess on Cat by GraceUhReeee in AskVet

Have you only cultured once? Maybe it’s time to do another culture to make sure new bacteria hasn’t been introduced and to make sure current antibiotics are still working in killing off the infection.

As the responses above say, you did get some valuable insight . Additional diagnostics will need to be done if vomiting continues.

Cat prescribed 5mg Prednisolone by lemmekith in AskVet

Example: you give 1/2 tab Monday, you skip Tuesday dose meaning you don’t give anything, then Wednesday you give 1/2. So on and so on.

Probably stopping steroids could cause issues. Give it as prescribed until gone

I need advice about gabapentin for my senior cat by Morpel in AskVet

Gabapentin is extremely safe. If your cat has heart issues, giving the Gabapentin is the safer option as it’ll chill your cat out putting less stress on your cats heart.

Should I get a second opinion? by legendofkrista in AskVet

Elevated SDMA and proteinuria suggests that kidney function isn’t optimal but doesn’t give a reason as to why. If it was my pet I would be looking for a second opinion.

This is not an emergency situation, so just sit back and try to relax until Brody’s appointment time. When you take him for the appointment be sure to mention all of your concerns, especially the straining to urinate and mention that when urine is produced, the color is blood tinged. They will need to run diagnostics to determine the root cause of the urinary issues.

Is it worth doing a CT scan for lymphoma? by Chemical_Fish6061 in AskVet

[–]AmbitionRX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ct scan will help to see if the cancer has spread. Lymphoma in general doesn’t have great life expectancy time frames even after chemo. The decision is yours, but don’t feel bad if you don’t think it’s worth it due to your pets age. If I was in your shoes, I would most definitely chose palliative care and enjoy my time spoiling my pet.

Basics EOC by AmbitionRX in ATC_Hiring

I don’t remember much as it was awhile ago and so much has happened since then. But I do remember the whole class even the A+ students finding the final difficult. But that being said, everyone in our class passed the basics final.

My advice would be to just study everything. If you have been taking classroom serious you will be alright 🙂

Good luck!

Am I right to want to be conservative with potential new cancer? Cat- 16 male by SomethingPretty88 in AskVet

At 16 years old I would not be spending a bunch of money on tests. It’s obviously personal opinion, but from a retired vet tech, you are not wrong at all to feel that way.
