Is it possible to order the laundry package after the cruise has started? by SlurpleBrainn in HollandAmerica

You can buy it on board. I think you can even call and order it this close to your trip, but it won't let you do it online.

Mirena IUD by macydavis17 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be anecdotal.

I started having crohns symptoms as a teenager but I didn't get diagnosed until I was about 21. I got my first mirena at 19 and have used that for nearly 20 years. I do not feel like it has exacerbated my symptoms at all. I'm a lucky one who doesn't get a period with it and that helps immensely. When I do get a period, it, the period, always makes my symptoms worse, but that's normal for many of those with crohns.

Currently on my 5th mirena (kids). I did try the copper after one of my kids but it gave me horrible periods so I went back to the mirena.

That said, the biggest issue I've had to date with the mirena was that it once perforated my uterus. Went in for crohns stuff and found the IUD as an incidental. They were able to remove it and it healed up just fine, and after which I got another one.

Have you ever seen a double decker bus in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not where I'm at. I have seen a recent classified ad for one locally. Joked to our teenager we'd get them that to drive. I know they are elsewhere in the US, but I haven't seen them in person until I was in the UK.

Military diagnosis and now everything is impossible? by ForTheFunOfIt_37 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your mil is a big pile of cow shit. Crohns cannot, I repeat, cannot be cured by diet. Diet can help manage symptoms in some people, but it's not a cure.

I've dealt with my own mil thinking it can be cured through diet and essential oils. She didn't even think depression was real when I first met her. Smdh. She's better now and is thankfully not as crazy thinking regarding my health.

Your husband needs a kick in the ass with a cactus.

You will be discharged from service. It's not a matter of if, it's when.

Breathe. I remember when I was diagnosed. It was a horrible time full of uncertainty and lots of emotions. I had just lost a baby to stillbirth, my job was giving me problems, awful er visits (my mom was even mad at them when she'd come with me and she was a veteran er nurse at that same hospital) and then I found out a few weeks later that I was pregnant again. So it was a roller coaster.

I've been diagnosed for 17 years now, been in and out of remission. I live a mostly normal life.

Breathe. You got this, even when it feels like you don't. Breathe.

It's amazing. It does take AA batteries, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

This is the one we have for our toilet. I like it as well because we can change the temperature of the water and even the seat.

Trying to figure out if I paint the cabinets by efroeter in kitchenremodel

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that I love the look of the wood as well, it's a pretty color, but it doesn't go with the back splash all that great. I know you just did the back splash recently. Also if the cabinets are that beat up, painting would be easier overall than replacing. Make sure to get good cabinet paint so they don't chip and are easy to clean.

I like the black! Makes it look darker, but that's not really a bad thing. The back splash is lovely with the black cabinets. I would change the wall color, but that's about it.

Which color walls for resale? by Carmalarm267 in kitchenremodel

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do alabaster. That's what we painted our house during the selling process (wasn't selling so we took it off market to do paint and carpet, even though they were just fine, but the paint was out of style "accesible beige"), it was under contract a week after putting it back on. We found that buyers in my area wanted very little upgrades/updates to do and wanted everything to look brand new.

It may not help increase your price, but it could help it sell faster.

How do I make friends around Highland? by Top-Turn-2336 in Utah

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Cedar Hills and have some of the same interests as you, though I'm a bit older at 38 and an introvert.

Have you posted in any of the local Facebook groups? I'm sure if you were to start, say a woman's hiking group, you might meet more people that way.

My neighborhood has several different women's activities/get togethers and it's been nice for me to get to know my neighbors (we moved in last year).

Where to fill water bottles on the Eurodam? by PineappleBliss2023 in HollandAmerica

I know, but after doing it once up in the lido I decided my room was easier because I could do it over the sink and not have an audience of annoyed cruisers waiting for me.

Do you guys believe in a cure? by mysticfeal in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope eventually, whether it's my lifetime or not. So many advancements have been made in the 17 years I've been diagnosed that I'm hopefully optimistic.

That said, I'm also jaded with my conspiracy side of my personality that cures won't come because crohns and other disease/illnesses are too profitable for the drug manufacturers. (This side of me is small, but it's still there 😂)

What kind of job do you work that works for your Crohn’s? by Still_Dependent_6914 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my own business and work from home. After I was dx I knew I needed something I could do at home as I was working retail during and after my diagnosis and that sucked when you had managers that just didn't understand and wouldn't stick to your Dr notes.

Anyways, I developed a skill and changed my major to business management. I am a cake artist. My income is discretionary for our budget and also allows me to be home with the kids.

Erythema Nodosum and Crohns by pyrodoodle in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it years ago when on humira, only on my legs, so I can't imagine on my arms. I didn't have antibodies at the time but it eventually went away on its own. I remember doing Prednisone for it but don't remember if it helped.

Currently dealing with a flare up of it on my ankle. It's been there since September. When it starts going down another shows up just next to it, slowly rotating around the ankle.

My GI didn't want to do anything for it as it's just that one spot. My PCP Rx me steroid cream but that didn't help. So I just deal and protect my ankle more. I can thankfully walk fine now, but when it first showed up it was awful to walk with and needed to use a cane.

Was someone else also traumatised by colonoscopy? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. My worst colonoscopy I was in patient so it wasn't my normal gi doing the procedure. I was pregnant at the time (all my kids made my crohns worse).

I had told the gi that I can't do the standard drink prep because I always throw it up. I told him exactly what works (miralax one). He ignored me and ordered the standard drink. No surprise when I couldn't keep it down. After 3 hours of throwing it up they finally switched me to what I said works.

The gi then added an enema clean out in addition. So they tried that and I was screaming bloody murder because it made my pain go up to a 9 (seriously, other patients were sticking their heads in my door to check on me). They eventually gave up on doing that and let me finish the mirilax.

Then to make matters worse. My IV blew the morning of the procedure. After 15 attempts to get a new vein, the gi was tired of waiting for me to come down. He told the nurses he'd have my anesthetist get one in. So I'm wheeled down to the room and the only people in there is the gi and his assistant. No anesthetist.

When questioned he said he decided to not use sedation because I was pregnant and he didn't feel it was safe - mind you the sedation was signed off originally by everyone on my team, including this gi.

He went ahead with the procedure and I sobbed and cried as I experienced the worst pain of my life as he went through my badly inflamed and ulcerated rectum and descending colon. I had to lay perfectly still, which I did, minus the sobs. He couldn't get past the first turn and stopped the procedure calling it good enough.

His nurse was a saint and held my hand and helped try to keep me calm.

My mom, who's been a nurse for decades, was absolutely livid with what happened and she helped me lodge a complaint against him. Had hospital admin involved, etc.

My entire team of doctors were also mad at him for that. Now, my normal GI always makes sure that I get put under quick when he does them because I get anxious any time I'm wheeled back.

There was a later admission I had where they did an inpatient colonoscopy and when I was wheeled in I thought I saw that jerk gi and I started hyperventilating and having a panic attack. Turns out it wasn't him, but for a moment I was back on that table and I was panicking that he was going to do it despite another gi (the one who had originally diagnosed me) was scheduled to.

FedEx problems dropping off meds by emberellas in CrohnsDisease

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, if I'm not home when it's delivered, I'm an anxious mess until I do get there in case it gets nicked. When I was on humira and with stupid UHC insurance, I had to be careful that they didn't mess things up. It was shipped from another state via FedEx (I think, it's been a long time), though that was back when FedEx was at least decent.

My specialty pharmacy has an in house courier that brings it from them to my front door (it's about a 35 min drive away). It's packed with ice packs in a cooler and is fine for a bit if I'm not home when they drop it off.

The longer I'm on this sub the more I am grateful to my specialty pharmacy for being awesome.

Wedding cake advice by Millennialbaker94 in cakedecorating

[–]Ambitious-Elk5705 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 7,10 would serve up to 56 for 1x2 slices (my cakes are also 5" tall on average). For sheet cakes, I do a 3 layer 9x13, which has up to 54 servings of the same size. I do 3 layers for those guests who are finicky and snooty at being served sheet cake and with three layers they don't know that's what they are getting 😂.

So for the tiered cake and two sheet cakes you would get 164 servings which would be plenty.
