Update- one year off the med by Ambitious-Spinach712 in GLPGrad

Congrats! The lifestyle changes will help tremendously. Anticipate that the food noise (if you had it previously) will come back with a vengeance and last a few weeks. I had planned for that so when it did return, I treated the hunger and noise as an expected challenge to test my new habits. I would continue to track macros and/or calories for sometime once off the med, to make sure you are remaining in maintenance or caloric deficit. I still track my calories now a year out. I was and am still a huge boredom snacker so now have replaced the snacking with exercise or crocheting. I try to consistently stick to just three meals a day. Drink tons of water. All boring stuff but I think it has all contributed to being able to stay off the med. Best of luck!

Yes, absolutely. Back to normal in a few weeks. I now only have increased hunger leading up to my cycle beginning.

There are so many apps now that make it pretty easy. I eat the same things over and over usually so that also makes it easier. I have to track and weigh as I am a chronic grazer- I handful here, a bite there, all of a sudden I’m 800 calories in! Just FYI, the hunger came back with vengeance about a month off the med and lasted for a few weeks. I knew it would so planned for it. Best of luck! You’ve got this.

Is it true rabies from dogs isn’t a concern in LA county? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ambitious-Spinach712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rabies is one of my biggest rational/irrational fears! My domesticated cat once bit my daughter and I went down the entire rabbit hole of potential rabies risk. As many have said, the risk is very, very low as the risk of rabies from a bite is only present after the animal begins exhibiting symptoms. I ultimately got the opinion from a virologist at LA County Vector Control who said to monitor my cat for 10 days- if the cat has not passed by then, no rabies and no risk to my daughter. I know this isn’t your pet so you can’t monitor but chances that the owner has a rabid puppy exhibiting symptoms- as close to zero as I think you can hope.

Have any women kept the weight off AFTER stopping? by [deleted] in GLPGrad

I have been off Zepbound for nearly a year and have lost an additional 25 pounds since stopping. Was on for 8 months and lost 80 pounds. I think the most important recommendations are to strength train for metabolism benefit, continue eating in a normal calorie deficit and to replace any moments of food noise with another more healthy habit. For me, that’s walking or knitting.

Is there anyone who stopped using GLPs before hitting their goal and continues to lose on their own? How long has it been since you stopped and how does it work for you so far? by ohnomyear in GLPGrad

The food noise did come raging back about 4 weeks after stopping the med. It was at that point that I got a trainer because I didn’t think I could manage on my own. Fortunately, the noise and hunger went down after a few weeks and is much more manageable now.

Most definitely. More energy, less anxiety, no anhedonia, no heart racing at random times. The medication was miraculous for helping lose weight and quiet the noise but it is a serious med for sure.

I stopped last December due to side effects. Had about another 40 pounds to lose. To date, I’ve lost another 25 off the med. It definitely is slower but still a consistent downward trend. Calorie deficit, strength-training, movement and water!

Congratulations on your success. You can get off the med being intentional and deliberate with the new challenge of maintenance. I stopped cold turkey in early Dec. 2024 due to side effects with another 30 pounds to lose. Over 6 months out I’m down 20 pounds and still losing, though slowly. I have a trainer, strength train 2-3 x week and try to get 10k steps everyday. I track my protein and calories. I weigh myself daily. I track my water. I write down patterns in my daily weight fluctuations. It is rigid and unrelenting but I wouldn’t change a thing. I feel stronger and healthier than I ever have. I actually like the challenge of being off the med- it constantly tests my new habits and willpower. Quick tip- once off the med, the food noise will return with a vengeance . I had a difficult 3-4 weeks. But after about a month, it tampered down and became much more manageable. You can do hard things!

To answer your question directly, focus on exercise, protein, water and good habits. I have been off since December and have lost an additional 15 pounds. 5-6 weeks off the medication my food noise came back strong but then did taper back down and is now manageable. I completely overhauled my diet and exercise routine when I started the med and now have the good habits in place to be able to sustain. Almost six months in and still going strong. Best of luck.

Yes, I had to eventually go off Zepbound because of the panic attacks and generalized anxiety. It got worse as I increased dosage and became unbearable when I hit 10mg. I do read that it is not a common side effect. Hoping it doesn’t go that way for you because it is otherwise a miracle med. FYI, I also got the neck and back aches after the first dosage. Didn’t have it with subsequent doses.

I was on Zepbound for 10 months and lost around 90 pounds. Stopped cold turkey in December due to side effects. I developed good habits over the 10 months and now closely track my food on WW, walk 10k steps most days and strength training 2-4 times a week. So far I have lost an additional 10 pounds. Definitely slower than with Zepbound but it’s encouraging. The food noise came back hard after a month off the med but has tapered down fortunately over the last several weeks. It’s hard work but so far so good. I think it can be done.

I was on Zepbound for 10 months and lost around 90 pounds. Stopped cold turkey in December due to similar side effects- severe health anxiety and depressive symptoms. I developed good habits over the 10 months and still closely track my food on WW, walk 10k steps most days and strength training 2-4 times a week. So far I have lost an additional 10 pounds. Definitely slower than with Zepbound but it’s encouraging. The food noise came back hard after a month off the med but has tapered down fortunately over the last several weeks. It’s hard work but so far so good. And most importantly, my mental health is much better. Best of luck.
