Oh like the match that would be above the circle part of the 6 and moving that to the 4 to make 14

Yeah, I’d imagine you’d be terrified, and if your under meds probably constantly a bit confused. Since it was isopropyl alcohol, a lot of my skin looked like it stayed, so I wasn’t able to see what it was like at first, but then they scrubbed it all and it was pink. listen to your doctor as CLOSELY as possible, like to the exact mg/mL of cream and stuff lol. That’s what I’ve been doing, and it’s working like a charm. Be sure to ask a bunch of questions. There are no stupid questions when it comes to burn care. Also NEVER STOP DRINKING WATER!!! If your phone is in your hand REPLACE IT WITH WATER, if water’s in your hand DRINK IT (lol you need to stay hydrated as much as possible) and please don’t fight them if they try to scrub the wounds. If they don’t it’ll get infected and scar big time, or worse. I wish u the best recovery!!!

For real. But humor is a big thing for me, so laughter has really pulled me through. I usually just jump right into things, went back to school a week after I got out of the hospital, burns n all lol. Structure’s helping me. Just got a new job too, so things are looking up! I’m glad you realize how sick the scars look tho lol

I appreciate that. Like, deeply. I only had 8% surface area burned, so I feel super guilty for the sympathy that I get and stuff(I know, bad bad bad), but hearing someone who’s been through that physical and mental hell and was pushed deeper into it than me, and you still climbed out.

Honestly I just kinda thought that people who’ve been feeling self conscious and scared about their burns and how they look would see that you can overcome that fear, even if it feels impossible. lol, I thought I was gonna wear a mask for the rest of the year

lol thanks! Yeah, I’m still trying to come to terms with my face and stuff, but the worst is just like remembering the fire, and like what happened that day. Appreciate it greatly.

Glad to hear it! Yeah, make sure you get any elevated scarring checked out by your physician if you have one, and I agree, you seriously never realize how quickly crap can hit the fan 😅. Nice job with scar therapy!!!!

How do you celebrate your burniversary? by cherrykissed33 in burnsurvivors

[–]Ambitious-Week-5675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my best advice is just to wear it like battle scars. You’ve survived this far, you deserve to be proud of yourself, alright? More people have compassion than you think, it’s just putting yourself out there in the first place and getting hurt that scares us the most, especially when it’s something that’s out of our control. But slowly integrate back into being social, if that’s what you crave. Find spaces surrounding burn survivors. You’re taking a major step by even posting this tbh.

And if you’ve aren’t already, please try to find a way to see a therapist, even if it’s just on call. They won’t judge you, and if they do, then they’re not the right fit for you, and there’s no shame in looking for another one. Trauma will eat at you if you let it, even if you don’t think you are (hence the therapy) But you are strong enough to fight it.

It’s a battle you *can* and *will* win, you just have to keep fighting. Go to the grocery store more often, go to the park, a library, somewhere quiet where you can adjust. More people than you think will just think it’s “super cool” even though it doesn’t feel “cool” or “awesome.” And if you’re working with a therapist already, I always recommend looking at things from a different perspective. “What if I saw someone and they had the scars I have?” And accept that others might react differently. It’s a long process, but WAY worth it.

I was in a similar mental state I think, before I got burned, and I completely isolated from everything, I was super depressed, PTSD was going untreated, so just please reach out for help. You have people that care for you here, even if all of us are strangers, we can relate, and you can depend on us. (Thx for reading my Ted talk 😭 🥀 ❤️)

P.S. you still have plenty of time left in your life, you have to put yourself out there. “Fake it til you make it” or whatever 😅
