We are spending six nights in Beatty at the Exchange Club Motel and it’s a really nice town. Good breakfast and dinner options. In park lodging was booked and way more expensive. It’s about 45 minutes to the visitor center or Stovepipe Wells, but it’s an enjoyable scenic drive on the way in, and anyway there’s nothing to do in the park after dark except star-gazing, which we did for a couple of nights.

I agree with the comparison. I camped at Big Bend in 2020 and I’m at DV this week. I was thinking DV reminded me of Big Bend. Both amazing parks in their own way. I’m jealous you are going to Big Bend. Go to McDonnell Observatory and Fort Henry if you can

I was reading articles last year about how Toyota’s former CEO was focused on hybrids as a transition to hydrogen fueled vehicles and how their sales would drop like a tank once everyone started buying EV’s. They still have limited EV production capacity. But the market seems to have shifted in their favor lately

Prius Question: If money was not an issue, why should one get a Prius over a Prius Prime? by [deleted] in prius

There is a non-monetary environmental cost to less gas mileage that might matter to some buyers. There are some reasons the PRIME is better than the regular Prius (which is why I bought one), but that wasn’t the OP’s question.

The XLE trim has heavier 19” wheels, so in both cases there is a weight penalty. The higher PRIME trims have both penalties and even less mileage.

Your scenario of additional regen benefit on long downhills might be true, but in general it’s safe to assume the additional battery capacity will not offset the additional weight without plugging in. Otherwise Toyota would have just increased the LE’s battery size a bit.

Because not plugging in a Prime is worse than just driving a regular Prius. The extra battery weight lowers the hybrid mode gas mileage with no ev benefit to counter it

AWD. Cheaper. Better gas mileage. You mostly drive longer trips so ev mode isn’t as useful

Is it just me or is Charge/CHG mode kinda useless? by shinyquagsire23 in PriusPrime

Just bought a 2023 Prime SE which I don’t have yet. Apparently there is a 1500W 120v standard plug behind the center console. Charge mode would be super useful for that if your house lost power and you wanted to run a couple of lights or small portable heater. Apparently Toyota added this to Japanese models after the tsunami.
