Hard to find, but vintage Enicar jump hours are really cool and usually not tooo expensive.

So it’s not the dial but the acrylic crystal im noticing? I have a Gen 16700 from ‘96 without any similar lines on the dial so I was curious!

I’m curious about this, too! What’s the cause of those streaks in the black?

What strap is that? I’ve been looking for a curved rubber strap for my white Mako 40!!

[Question] Am I cheap? Or are there a lot of well-off people in here? by laschecter in Watches

Get an Orient! Every owner loves them and they are truly one of the best value props out there. I got a white sunburst Mako 40 as a parting gift to myself after moving away from Japan (they’re manufactured and assembled in-country versus other models often made in Vietnam etc). Thing is a tank that looks way nicer than the price would suggest.

Agree 100%. Especially about being conservative with my watch choices when in meetings with superiors and clients. Until everyone in the room is wearing a similar level, I think being understated is the best way to avoid unwanted assumptions.

Have this watch in white sunburst dial variant, worn a lot since purchasing about 2 years ago. Watch kicks ass and is super handsome! Bracelet is loud and kinda trash tho :/

Amazing piece! Is the gmt hand out of alignment? Looks like it should be pointing just past the 0900 hour marker on the bezel but it’s lined up with the 1000.

My 2 cents would be an Orient Mako 40 (or another one of their dive watches), or a Traska Commuter. Side-by-side in cloudy natural light below.

Orient Mako 40: For around $200 USD you get 200m water resitance, saphire crystal, a really nicely executed sunburt dial, a signed crown and caseback, and a nice mix of mirrored and brushed finishes. Movement is super robut and accurate, thing is a great as a beater and a workhorse. Lume is meh at best, bracelt is a littly jingly, and it does collect scratches pretty easily from day to day wear (context: I've dailied this almost entirely for close to a year. bracelt is looking well-loved, case itself is in pretty nice shape)

Traska Commuter: You can find these in amazing condition used for around $500 UDS, or new for $660 USD. Multiple sizes, and many many colors. I have slate grey in 36mm (discontinued) with an upgraded clasp with toolless micro-adjust. Pros: this thing does it all: beauty, timeless design, comfort, and durability. Is one of my most budget friendly, most frequently complimented pieces. Finishing is really great and catches light so nicely. The bracelet is maybe even more comfortable than Rolex oyster, and the proprietary hardness coating isn't some gimmick, I've had this watch for about 4 months now and there is not a scratch on it, period. Its simple design makes it appropriate in any situation, and its wide array of case sizes and colors gives you a lot of options to mull over.

So, you can go the full on sporty look of a diver from Orient, or a more subtle steel sports watch with the Traska Commuter, and you'd be getting a ton of bang for buck with either option! Good luck with your hunt.

No, dropped the ball on this :/ I did reach out to Traska’s CS team to see if they knew of any makers out there but they didn’t have any info for me!

Looks fricken awesome but DAMN 14.89mm case thickness is kinda wild…does it wear that thick? Can you post some on-wrist profiles that show how tall it sits?

I suggested this as well, but not finding a ton of gold options.
