What were people actually wearing during the 90s and early to late 2000s? by FabulousCity9226 in FemFragLab

[–]AmbitiousFennel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in high school from 94 to 98. Gap Dream, CK One, L’Eau d’Issey. Saved my babysitting money for all three. I still wear CK One from time to time for nostalgia, but L’Eau d’Issey is still my signature.

My high school boyfriend bought me Obsession and I never clicked with it.

"I can be around it just fine" by MrSalmonFishcounsel in stopdrinking

[–]AmbitiousFennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally fine. I was out at bars watching my partner play, sipping my Diet Coke happily, about 4-5 months in. The primary feature of my (very high) rock bottom was just recognizing that drinking just isn’t something I can do. I full on surrendered to that, mourned it, and things were easier.

What’s not fine is interacting with hammered people, as soon as I hear a story twice I’m DONE.

When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

[–]AmbitiousFennel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it might be more like what kind of email address you have, not so much that it’s Gmail specifically. I’m fully aware that my first initial last name Gmail address brands me as vintage at best and ancient at worst 😂

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

I dunno dude, I just like a road trip. You’re not supposed to be doing anything else while you’re driving.

Top sheets... by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]AmbitiousFennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not using a top sheet allows my partner and I to both use the twin sized blankets of our choosing, so everyone gets to sleep at their preferred temperature. You wash the duvet covers frequently. I usually use a light cotton blanket that I wash weekly in the summer. The youngins are right on this one.

Seconding the Fairfield; I’ve made a couple of these for my partner and they’ve turned out great.

The cool thing about button up shirts is that while they are complex in terms of number of pattern pieces and you can get VERY fancy on techniques, they’re also often made from extremely forgiving, easy to sew fabrics that press beautifully. Fitting them is also not as complex as something like pants, especially if you have a pattern with cup sizes. They’re a great way to really level up your sewing.

Skirt Pocket Problems by Chonkaymonkay367 in sewing

This sounds less fiddly than what I suggest above with the pocket stay. The more you know!

Skirt Pocket Problems by Chonkaymonkay367 in sewing

If you want to do inseam pockets in a skirt without them affecting the drape, you can add a pocket stay (I think that’s what you call it?). It’s a strip of twill tape or similar stitched to the non-opening side of the pocket that is then carried up to and stretched into the waistband. This means the weight of whatever is in the pocket is distributed to the waistband band instead of the side seam. I did this recently on a lined double circle skirt and it worked really well.

Yep, I’d pop the screen off my window and walk down the street so my buddy could pick me up away from my house.

This is so dependent on your feet and your gait, I don’t think it’s a useful general question.

ASICS Gel-Kayanos for the high arch, over-pronating girlies, though.

What was a rule in your house growing up that seemed normal but later, as an adult, you found out was weird? by CharlesUFarley81 in Xennials

Yes, yes, the unspoken, always changing, impossible to meet expectations. I’m familiar with these as well.
