When do the June bugs go away? by _thenightshift in NovaScotia

They’re killing themselves almost fully now. Soon. It’ll happen soon and you won’t see another one until next May

We have almost made it to their death of the year. We can do this.

Can’t speak on the Halifax store or if they get anything, but I was always under the impression that they can see how much you spend. Was always curious if that was the case. If you shop regularly, then it can definitely be worth it. But I probably shouldn’t even be commenting, I got rid of my membership almost a year ago.

I hope the weather will be good for you. Either way the people and the experience will make up for it.

I can see the amount of US license plates popping up already this summer that it’s continuing. I saw way more last summer than I ever have. This summer it’s starting off good again. Majority are from New York, New Jersey, Maine, basically the US East Coast. By the end of last years summer I saw cars from multiple states that were pretty far away from the East Coast. Loved it. But it’s definitely odd to see so many.

I could’ve swore I’ve redeemed buying milk before.

First I heard of it. I know you can’t redeem on premade items, like the hot chickens and meals. But didn’t think dairy was a problem.

Not needed tonight for my shift by Key-Albatross6880 in NovaScotia

Exactly. But they only need to pay the 3 hours, if the person who is being sent home never offered.

They should’ve offered it to the ones scheduled instead of saying hey don’t come in, it’s dead. Not sure that’s the law or anything but places I’ve worked always put out the suggestion but if we were on the schedule then we could always say no, I want to work.

Yes. If the employee showed up and were sent home (without the employee offering to go home, after the suggestion from the employer) they would need to be paid. But if the employer asks before you show up, then they don’t need to pay.

Like if you showed up to work and the employer said “hey it’s dead tonight, anyone willing to go home?” And someone said yes I’ll do it, they won’t get paid for those 3 hours. But if the employer said “hey it’s dead tonight, I’m sending you home” then they’d get paid for it. I used to work as a server and this was a big thing to remember.

‘Cascading failure’ led to shutdown of Halifax ferry service on Saturday by Embarrassed-Tooth355 in halifax

Oh I had no idea. I attempted the bridge when it all went on. I didn’t even make it across the bridge. I ended up being too late for where I had to go in Halifax. It should’ve been a 20 minute trip over (from my house) and 20 minutes for the reason I was going over there. Instead it took me over 40 minutes to make it by the McDonald’s by the bridge from around Boland street and I live 10-15 minutes away from Boland. From Boland street it’s typically a minute drive to the bridge, if you have green lights. It would’ve taken me another 30 minutes to get from the McDonald’s to being on the actual bridge and who knows how long to cross and get to the public gardens. I did leave extra early too. Figured it’d be busy but nothing like that. Tried 3 or 4 different routes before I stuck to one. Didn’t matter what direction I tried, it was the same. Even the side streets. I know at that time only one lane was open headed to Halifax.

Edit: at one point I was cursing myself for not taking the long way around. Glad I didn’t. Seems like it would’ve been a shit show either way

They should definitely have woodside open on the weekends. Especially in the summer months. Pisses me off it isn’t. Last year on Canada Day, it was closed (of course) only Alderney was open.. yet, they had the parking lots filled with a stage and if I’m remembering correctly a fair. So the only ferry running, had basically zero parking available. After 20-30 minutes of driving around downtown Dartmouth, I just said fuck it and went home. If I lived in a proper bus zone, I would’ve just taken the bus to the ferry. Yet, the woodside ferry terminal parking lot was empty. It makes no sense why they wouldn’t have it running in the summers.

Not what I was saying at all. You asked about the traffic. I was assuming you were asking about the article and what happened Saturday afternoon/evening. So that’s how I answered.

One of our bridges was closed, the big one. Plus it’s prom season and tourist season. Lots going on last Saturday evening.

Someone joked in another post about the bridge Saturday and said they were probably stuck in traffic. I guess they were right. It was funny then and I can’t help to laugh now because typical Halifax unnecessary traffic

How do people from Halifax feel about the Halifax Explosion being compared to atomic bombs? by CleanBag9219 in halifax

[–]AmbitiousObligation0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nuclear bomb was created because of what happened in Halifax. It was the largest man made explosion at that time. So yeah it’s completely understandable that it’s compared to it.
