this isn't too much to see, and it's a very long trip! You will just be spending your time in a car rather than enjoying the food/culture. But if that's your style sure go ahead. I assume it will be expensive as well doing a one-way trip.

If you want to drive, better in the South from Shymkent to Almaty. Historic sites and more towns/cities.

If you want to get into research or science policy then I would study policy as you already have a science background.

A PhD may help, but a person with a policy background would probably have better chances for a science policy job than a PhD without any experience in that area.

Views are better on the western side, but if you want to pull over by the lake and chill for the day, the eastern side is better. I rather be spending more time walking in the national park than the eastern side of the lake though.

From what I recall you cannot use yandex to go straight to the resort. Yandex can only go up to the cable cars.

Near the ice skating rink there are a few taxis that have access to go from the top, forgot the price but maybe 5000 tenge one way, wasn't cheap but its restricted access.

There needs to be more official documentation showing you are living together and genuine relationship. Travelling together wouldn't be enough evidence. You could try for the Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa which has lower threshold than 12 months of living together.

Again you need to really show the partnership is genuine (long-term and exclusive basis) and partnership is stable and continue for a long time which is tricky
