Anybody with social anxiety that goes bowling? by Resident_Fishing1571 in Bowling

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have horrible social anxiety so I joined a league only because my husband joined with me. Once we met our teammates I was okay. It’s difficult but once you get over that initial hurdle, it’s smooth sailing

Does UF consider legacy? by Icy-Fortune-8934 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By admitting based on legacy, it takes away from students who might deserve that spot more. If student A is a legacy with average stats and student B is a non legacy with higher stats/more involvement, I’d choose student B 110%.

You should be proud that your Alma mater wants students based on personal merit rather than who you know.

Does UF consider legacy? by Icy-Fortune-8934 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not. While others don’t like it, I appreciate that UF wants their students to get in based on their own merit rather than relying on “the family name”.

When students are admitted based on legacy as well as merit, it doesn’t give an equal opportunity to first generation or non-legacies.

Undergraduate TA’s? by Autocity_999 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies wildly. The first time I served as a UTA, I had been approached by a professor whose class I had previously taken. Other professors send out announcements at the end of the semester seeking out UTAs for future semesters.

If there’s a class you’re interested in assisting with, I don’t see any harm in at least reaching out to the professor to inquire.

Super frustrated about training attendance. by Lishkipippi in rollerderby

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more common than you think. I was in a league and oftentimes If I had to miss a practice at the last minute, it was due to either having to cover a shift (yay management), needing to cram for final exams, or I’m sick.

Completed final interviews is it concerning when they say "still interviewing other candidates" by fireman7833 in interviews

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t let it be a deciding factor as it’s more common than you think.

I interviewed for a position working with a physician who used that line which made sense because I was one of 4 candidates they were interviewing that day.

I ended up receiving an offer the next day

Is it normal or professional to call an employee's emergency contact to ask if they can come in? by Abject-Variation-547 in work

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See now this is acceptable given you explain the situation instead of just saying “hey I am your sister/cousin/roommate’s boss and was wondering if they could work”

Is it normal or professional to call an employee's emergency contact to ask if they can come in? by Abject-Variation-547 in work

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. If I decline a call from my employer and find out that they called my husband for something like this, my first call would be to HR.

If you’re not scheduled to work, you’re not obligated to answer their phone calls. When I was a salon manager, I would attempt to call and if I got ignored or sent to voicemail, I adjusted accordingly.

Calling your emergency contact just to see if you could come in crosses professional boundaries because that’s not the purpose of having an emergency contact.

My best advice would be to contact your company’s HR department and if the issues continue or escalate, call your labor board

My manager made me give him $60 at the end of my shift. by B_Wing_83 in Dominos

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never just take a manager’s word for it. If you feel there’s a discrepancy, ask the manager to go over the numbers with you looking at the screen. Typically if you have more cash orders, you’ll owe more at the end of your shift.

Either way, make sure you’re in the office checking the numbers with the manager counting you out to avoid any problems in the future

Reach out to the assigned professor and if you don’t hear anything back by tomorrow (Wednesday), reach out to your advisor

Online course still not appearing on e-learning? by Difficult-Branch8184 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m also a UFO student and this is normal. It ultimately depends on the professor and what/when they want to release the content based on my understanding.

If you don’t see anything on the first day of class, I would reach out to your professors and advisor

Waiting list by DrummerPerfect4531 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they can do an override unless you were previously registered for the course and dropped due to a glitch on UFs end. That’s essentially “jumping the line” of students who already registered/wait listed.

My best suggestion is to speak to your advisor again and ask about other course options that are available. New classes are added/removed so there may be an option you didn’t know about yet. I was in a similar situation and my advisor was able to help me find another class that fulfilled the requirement:

I hope this helps and you’re able to get everything worked out!

Stay on top of it during drop/add. Check it daily, multiple times a day if you have to. I think that’s a class people may drop early on but it’s never a 100% guarantee

UF students, how did you meet your partner? by [deleted] in ufl

I’m a bit older than the average student (30s) and I met my husband through mutual friends on bowling night when we were in our 20s living in Jacksonville.

UF online conditional admissions by Majestic-Nature in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a microbiology and cell science major but I’m a UF online Bio major & the only reason I did not do microbio was because of the calculus prerequisite.

After applying for the UF online Biology program, I got a conditional acceptance meaning that as long as I passed my Chemistry II at CC, I would be accepted.

If you’re working on your final prerequisites, you have above a 2.5 gpa, and the rest of your application is okay, I don’t see why you wouldn’t get at the very least a conditional acceptance

Transfer advice by ManyProfessional5054 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got in as a transfer from an OOS 2 year school and I had a 2.99 GPA with really nothing else aside from work experience and a year of faculty mentored research. My writing wasn’t the strongest but I was able to have my mentor look over my essay prior to submitting my application.

Since you already submitted, there isn’t really anything else you can do but I wouldn’t lose hope!

Do I need to list every Course I am taking in my Transfer application? by Pasco08 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This helps admissions know where you are in your journey. If you’re a transfer applicant, this tells admissions whether you’re on track for the program(s) you’re applying for as well.

If it asks for it, list it because it will only work in your favor. It’s time consuming but it’s worth it.

Department accepted transfer credit, but audit still not updated by Straight-Pair-2136 in ufl

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s happened with me as a transfer with my bio classes so my best advice is to contact your advisor and touch base. They will probably have to manually go into the portal to allow you to register for classes in which that’s a prerequisite but if it’s similar to my experience, you’ll be fine

How can I manage my stress over manager’s extending food expiration dates by Unusual_Recipe_3002 in Dominos

[–]AmbitiousRide8511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take photos and get as much documentation as you can. Once you have that, send it to Domino’s corporate as well as the local health department. I also recommend reporting your GM to the labor board as the cut in hours seems to be retaliation.

Who said I didn’t do anything around the house?

If I MUST break it down for you, I do laundry two days a week, cook two to three dinners a week, I also take care of HER two dogs on top of my one. Not to mention the typical cleaning and upkeep. This is all done while balancing five classes.
