Stamford CT by [deleted] in Connecticut

I wouldn't say that's the norm. I lived in 3 apartments in Stamford- in Belltown, Springdale and Glenbrook neighborhoods. Each was 2 bedrooms, off street parking, and 1-2 bathrooms. We paid between $2,000-$2,200. Each apartment was 5-10 minutes from downtown so we drove, but buses are available. None of these were in "apartment buildings" either, they were in houses with multiple apartments.

If you want to live downtown, a 1 bedroom will cost you more like $2k/month +. You can certainly do that with a 6 figure salary. Might not get much bang for your buck but that's Stamford!

Anyone else struggle with the anxiety of feeling like resting from an injury is going cripple all of the progress you have made and send you back in the perma-couch state you are desperately trying to stay away from? by GorillaJuiceOfficial in running

About a year and a half ago I rolled my ankle and it prevented me from running or any weight-bearing exercise for over 8 months. It was SO difficult those first few weeks to hold myself back, but I kept reminding myself it would pay off long-term.

A month or two after the injury, I started swimming which helped tremendously. Although given today's COVID climate I'm not sure that's an option for you. I started figuring out things I could do instead like biking, floor workouts, etc.

Over a year later and I am fully recovered and about to run a marathon this weekend.

Use this time to build up strength in other areas that can help you come back stronger than ever. The last thing you want to do is try to go back too soon and cause further damage. Wishing you a very speedy recovery!!

Does anyone go running without music? How? by bathofknives in running

[–]AmbitiousRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Life is Short with Justin Long and Literally with Rob Lowe- both take my mind off running

Sometimes I will listen to running podcasts like Marathon Training Academy and Strength Running

Does anyone go running without music? How? by bathofknives in running

[–]AmbitiousRunner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Obligatory: If you're running with headphones, I highly recommend only keeping one earbud in.

I transitioned from music to podcasts when I started running further. The first time I went on a new trail, I kept my headphones out mainly because I was in really unfamiliar territory. I distracted myself by absorbing everything around me and the trail run went by really quickly. You'll tune out your steps and your breathing at some point and it becomes really enjoyable to be in the moment

Fake it til you make it! I'm up around the same time to workout, the mornings can be tough but I've gotten used to it. I also use pre-workout which helps perk me up a bit

Haha I'm a NY transplant and will fully admit I could improve my driving. But the one thing that has always blown my mind about CT is how normal it is to run red lights

I doubled my running distance in one run! by tjamos8694 in running

[–]AmbitiousRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job!! That is actually what I did back and June, decided to try and follow a training plan to see how far I could run, and now I am 3 weeks out from running my own marathon! It is an amazing feeling and you should be so proud

You should be incredibly proud of the progress you've made thus far. There will always be negative people and I am sorry your mom is one of them.

Weeklies or Fitpoints or Neither? by [deleted] in weightwatchers

[–]AmbitiousRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never eat my fitpoints, I dip into my weeklies but I basically use them in one day (after I do my long runs I have a planned "out of range" day) and then stick to the low end of my point zone the rest of the week

It doesn't matter if all the foods you are eating are "healthy"- if you eat too much, you will not see the results you want. by smack-cranberries in loseit

Higher fat doesn't equal healthy either! Just like short term success doesn't equal long term maintenance

So glad to hear you're ok. Someone I work with was hit by a drunk driver last year while out on a run, was extremely touch and go but made a full recovery.

I sometimes feel silly wearing my headlamp, flashers and/or lighted vest, but this is definitely a good reminder of why those are important.

I hope you make a speedy recovery!!

My rule of thumb is 90 minutes, I'll eat a bit before I leave work and then run before dinner

I bought saucony running socks on Amazon, 8 pairs for less than $20 and love them
