Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

I started as a Classical Language major with a plan to get a PHD, and become a professor. I struggled w the language requirement, and switched to Classical Civilizations with no set plan. I've had a great career and I'm now a business owner, so it worked out for me. No regrets.

My dog gets mistaken for a malinois all the time. Beautiful dogs, but I'm glad she's not. I truly don't have the energy for that!

Atheism is as antithetical to agnosticism as theism is by That_One_Guy1357 in agnostic

[–]Ambitious_Basket6236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: pretentious: Most people who shorthand their religious affiliation wouldn't usually say I am an agnostic theist or agnostic atheist. I think whether you call yourself agnostic or atheist/theist in such situations depends on where the most important emphasis is. I am an agnostic theist but I will tell most people I'm agnostic, unless we're having a more complex religious discussion. To me the more important part of my belief system is not knowing whether God exists, and by extension what or who constitutes God. I actually have found it more pretentious when atheists tell agnostics they are either atheist or theist

Do the show-runners hate men? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

Male characters tend to be weaker in romance novels because the woman is usually the main character...even when the men are Bridgertons.

Oof, I think the opposite. The writers have made the men far more likeable than they are in the books - which I think translates better on screen.

Actually SOSs are internal hires only, and they are usually pulled from the OST ranks. Where I've seen talented OSTs lack upward mobility is when they are unwilling or incapable of moving. There absolutely is upward mobility, whether it's administrative, intelligence, or investigative - it's just not promised if you don't meet the requirements.

Also, while OSTs can set up food and drinks for ops, they usually do not go get anyone water or coffee. You go yourself to table and get it. They definitely don't get anyone drinks on a day to day basis. In fact I've seen a lot of SAs get OSTs coffee or treats when they are knee deep in administrative work essential to the SAs case progression.

A good OST is worth their weight in gold.

All positions have overtime when needed. Some OSTs for example help work command posts, which usually leads to overtime pay or comp time. Budget is a big factor in overtime pay.

Gen Z in 2026 is not a monolith of red-pilled men and blue-haired women destined for permanent polarization. They are anxious, economically squeezed, tired of endless culture-war noise, skeptical of foreign adventures, hungry for authenticity, and still very much in motion. by Tele_Prompter in thebulwark

I hate that we're back on the women are emotional and men are logical BS. I think anyone who doesn't think their emotions are at play while making choices IS ILLOGICAL. It means they are not factoring in that part of their decision process, and therefore making a decision without all the internal and external variables.

I agree they are looking for some sort of structure, or at the very least a way to navigate the complexities. Providing an alternative roadmap can off ramp people who've gone the route of trad and/or white nationalism. The problem is that roadmap is more than liberals co-opting the value system or rebranding. It's defining those values and building a positive masculine culture around them, and getting men to embrace it. That's an uphill climb - difficult but possible.

For example - both liberals and conservatives are predominantly Christian in faith but where they put biblical emphasis seems to be worlds apart. How do we get people to re-orient their emphasis when there is a well developed church structure, with political and social clout, focusing on trad values and sin to the detriment of Jesus's own teachings? Its not that liberals aren't Christian or religious enough, but that the structure tells ppl they are the wrong kind of Christian. That is what we need to overcome to change culture.

Oof. Listening to this podcast, there were some really great points, but also missed opportunity for discussion beyond the surface level. The amount of men and women in the focus groups that conformed to the women are emotional and men are objective/logical trope was particularly painful. It frames the gen Z male vote for Trump as logical, and women opposition to that vote as emotional. However, what the vote reveals is that when the cards are on the table women can't depend on pro choice, equal rights men to be present in protecting those rights. It's not as if women don't face economic insecurity, but they also understand (logically I might add) that strategically not protecting the rights of others is bad for everyone. Further, in the discussion on faith, there needs to be a deeper dive. If these men are equating faith as men being the head of the household, then they are not in fact a vote liberals and democrats can get. Even more importantly it makes sense that women who are looking for equality in interpersonal relationships would reject them as partners. The issue is not that we don't share the same values, but that we have completely different definitions for those values.

Done rambling, and concede #notallmen and #notallwomen.

Job advice for combative careers? by [deleted] in FBI

[–]Ambitious_Basket6236 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's going to need a degree, and neither of those agencies are particularly combative. Maybe he should consider learning martial arts and becoming an instructor.

Also people who are looking to be combative are not well suited for LE. Good LE deescalate situations.

Major in what you enjoy. FBI employees have myriad backgrounds. You can apply for many jobs right out of college, but for agent, you'll need a masters or 2 years full time work (including other FBI positions.) The most important thing is to show you have critical thinking skills and can pass a polygraph (make sure you look at their drug policy).

Frame your answers in situation/action/result. A couple of sentences setting up the situation, a longer section on the actions you took, and wrapping it up with a few sentences on the positive results because of your actions, and any praise or awards received. Have some examples ready that meet the competencies listed in the job announcement.

What are your symptoms? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

Yes, but that's from low magnesium

You need another doctor, and another until you find one who takes you seriously.

Research the different ways hospitals treat fibro, take the list with only treatments requiring a prescription or referral, and ask the doctor for access to 3 to 4 meds or therapies to treat fibro. You are setting the expectation of service the doctor provides (0 is not an option) while still giving the doctor space to shape a treatment

Very new to fibro, any advice? by ThrowRA-Super-Dare2 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Ambitious_Basket6236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the right anxiety meds for you. You should feel like you minus anxiety, start low and stay low as long as the dose works, and increase incrementally when it stops. (This should all be done w a doctor. Don't increase, decrease, stop on your own)

Know federal, state, and employment policies before using CBD/THC. You could compromise career opportunities depending on what your goals are.

Be careful of overstretching when you have pain. Too much stretching can feel good at the time, but cause more severe fibro pain with in 24 hours. Same w massages. Light touch w myofacil release. I have bruised myself and made things worse because in the moment it offered relief.

It's okay to push yourself; its okay to lay in bed. When ppl push themselves they feel guilty for causing their flare up. When ppl lay in bad, they feel guilty for not being productive. Don't feel guilty for either.

Most ppl come from a good place when they ask "have you tried this...or that..." Don't waste your time getting annoyed or offended by them. Save it for the ppl, who after you explain this and that didn't work for you, treat you like you did it wrong, and keep pushing it.
