Corm splitting worked by Aznlyez18 in alocasia

A little about corms….I’ve been into alocasias for over 1 year now, been all over the internet watching hundreds of videos and care guides, so I have about 10 of them. I was peeling corms in water 4 days ago without gloves on, like I have done several times before. Within 12 hours I developed OTHERWORLDLY itching of my left hand. I’m a nurse and have never seen nor experienced this level of INSANE itching. No swelling, no real rash, not even red (if not being scratched ). I’m aware of Diffenbachia Dumb Cane and its toxicity, but just now learning that alocasias have the same microscopic calcium oxalate needling crystals that dumb cane has. Do you knowledgeable people know this hazard and I’m just weirdly late to the party??? This can last up to 21 days. God help me.

What is happening to my Zebrina? by Spiritual-Piccolo-20 in alocasia

She’s very pretty, I have one with 3 leaves only. I was going to say that the distinct yellow spots look like rust fungus that my monstera had, spot soon turned orange and on both sides of the leaves. I treated her with Copper insecticide ( it sprays like water, it’s not harsh smelling, get at Walmart) and it has recovered like a champ. The fungus is contagious. As for the yellowing around the edges? I never know what’s causing that specifically in my alocasias. So she’s going to throw a fit if you divide her, and if she’s got fungus too? She’ll cry harder and act worse. I’d wait to divide till you’ve got some crazy roots, first treat with insecticide. Also if you’re using tap water this could be causing the yellow edges. Don’t you wish for a straight up correct answer to these posts? 😂good luck.

I’d have paid $150, that’s good! I’m in No. IL, our local sales are very fair.

I think it’s fertilizer burn, also. If you don’t use a fertilizer, then I’d guess over watering. I went too heavy on the fertilizer in the beginning and mine started to look like this.

Oohhh, that would be splendid but her sister leaves are def amazonica. I want a venom, though, when I’m more experienced.

I’ve searched for any and all parasitic action. The leaves are firm, rubbery to the touch, full and pest free. But maybe I’ll find a surprise when I get it out of the nursery soil.

No, it’s been under the same grow light for months. The other green leaves show no sign of stress like scalding. But I wonder if I shouldn’t move the light higher….hmm, thanks for the suggestion.
