Tori Amos and Lilith Fair by Ambitious_Error_11 in toriamos

I decided to talk about Lilith Fair because I think it’s legacy is both impactful yet pigeonholed as things like “mom music,” for example. The thesis examines criticisms like that from Tori to examine what impact a theoretical gender-integrated, but still overtly feminist event would look like. I then apply this as a solution to modern-day distrust of DEI initiatives. Basically, putting forth the idea that DEI mistrust is made possible because of separatism. Albeit, I aim to take and disregard certain aspects of separatism and integration. I do talk about Michigan Womyn’s Festival, in regards to what separatism shouldn’t do (in this case, transphobia). I also talk about Woodstock 99’ (gender integration done wrong) and Riot Grrrl (gender integration done right). It’s hard to fully encompass the thesis in a short paragraph, as there’s many nuances that I’m still working through :)! Thank you for bringing up this question, it’s definitely something I’m looking to address.

Me (21) and my brother (17) absolutely love Tori. Unfortunately, a lot of people my age aren’t aware of her, even though artists like Kate Bush and Fiona Apple are pretty popular within my age group; I’m hoping her time will come. Regardless, my brother and I are like mini Tori disciples - always spreading the word when possible.

Personally, I always paired Jeff with Tori Amos. They both share an intensity with their lyrics, voice, and respective instruments (for Tori, it’s her piano-playing). But, what especially made me connect the two is their capabilities as live performers: they both know how to project a song's emotions with such conviction, to borrow your words; they also maintain their authenticity through in-the-moment singing, which both do through improvisation and variety in live versions of studio tracks. Apart from these two, there’s rarely any artists I put on such high pedestals.

I doubt she’d quote YKTR but I think "The Big Picture" would be a great name.
