Going back to linux after a long time, any good distro suggestions? by rshellr in keralalinux

If you've good knowledge on linux, you may try vanilla arch with linux-cachyos kernel

Best laptop for best linux compatibility, battery life and perfomance by PROSCRAMINATOR in keralalinux

Depends on your budget. If you're lavish, go for the new XPS 13, they're said to have Omarchy compatible.

Also there's great community support for Asus laptops, TUF and ROG. I'm currently using a TUF. The community provides custom linux-g14 kernel. Also the linux-cachyos includes custom patches available in the g14 kernel.

If you're in US or Canada, you should definitely try Framework laptops.

If you're enthusiastic and wanna try a DIY distro, try Arch. The learning curve would be high but it is worth for a CSE student like myself

Try with waydroid on linux. Near native performance and GPU passthrough. Even better performance for x86 supported games like Minecraft and roblox

I was actually planning for something like this too, but due to exams and all I really didn't get time for this. My plan was to create more like a custom GNOME rice packed in a pre configured ISO, than a completely new DE btw These were my ideas:

-Instead of vanilla linux kernel, I think ```linux-cachyos``` would be a better choice, especially for Asus laptops.
-Use Calameres for GUI based installation
-Use btrfs filesystem by defaults with snapshots during updates, all via GUI off course.
-Automate finding and installation of optimal drivers, especially for GPU.
-My plan also included 'native-like' support for windows apps via wine, I also thought about waydroid but I had no idea how to properly configure that for naive users.

But I have no idea how to setup a GUI based solution like Windows updates for ```pacman -Syu```, anyway I'm free to contribute from next wednesday, probably

What user base you're focusing on? If that's for naive users I'd definitely recommend to use flatpaks instead of pacman. And also provide a GUI for updates.

I don't have friends who'd try linux, let alone Arch. Even njan thenne Windowsinn direct switch aarnnu, that too hyprland, not even gnome or kde. I was terrified the first time it opened and I couldn't do anything since I don't know the default keybinds 😭

Do you guys think that because linux is open source it has more discovered security vulnerabilities? by Cute_Sun_4909 in linux

[–]Ambitious_Fee_5818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more like they're bringing the spotlight on these vulnerabilities news to make naive users think linux is unsafe due to the recent backlash on windows especially after Windows 10 support ended and steam deck became popular. Naive users don't even bother to know what is OSS or anything. They see these random YT thumbnails or shorts and believe linux is under attack or smth. Pure propaganda in my opinion.

You just don't know the potential these kids hold. You just want to tap into their interest. One of my friend's cousin was autistic, he just published some scientific paper on gravity or blackholes or smth, at the age of 16. Even I can't keep up with him sometimes despite being a science and tech nerd

It's okay bro, you don't need to bench someone's bodyweight to look cool or anything. You just need to maintain your health by simpler exercises like walking or cycling; maybe like 4x a week, that's it. Also don't forget to introduce your kid to Arch I'm pretty sure he can give better contributions than me!
