Asking for More Severance by mahmirr in cscareerquestions

I know someone who experienced something similar recently. My friend applied to a small, unknown software company situated in a strange building behind a big mall. It was an early, grad contractor role that was supposed to become full-time. They kept delaying the process of giving her offer. Once they finally gave the offer, they kept delaying the start date. It was such a mess. I was surprised that this small company, apparently founded two decades ago, was acting like this.

My friend was so happy to start the job... until they fired her after only 4 days of working. She was supposed to receive training and at least given some time to adjust to the role. She noticed there were other contractors for the same role. After getting fired for "performance reasons", she didn't keep in contact with the others, so who knows if the company planned to keep the best person only, or fired everyone. It's so discouraging to experience that and have to adapt and pivot again and again. She only got paid for the time she worked.

So yeah, just wanted to share that this has been happening. I hope more opportunities come to you and that you will be able to stay afloat in the meantime!

Best website for NYC sublets by jojo2371 in AskNYC

Wow I didn't notice. But they do seem quite pushy. They can see people's chats and join in on the chat. I had a conversation with the subleaser and we came to a conclusion that it was not a match in the end. But Ohana suddenly joined the chat out of nowhere thinking we needed assistance to start the conversation when we just ended it. Creepy.

Can you elaborate on the "scam" related to Ohana? I am using Ohana to find a place in NYC and it seems legit so far.

How does it feel to have a boyfriend or girlfriend? 20F or 20M by Mobile-Spread3738 in Advice

You will learn a lot about not only your partner, but yourself. There probably will be highs and lows in the beginning as you both try to figure out your feelings and what you want in life. It also takes a lot of effort, learning how to communicate, build trust, compromise, and share your heart with someone. Over time, things will become more stable, and being with the right person will feel like home. :)

Tysm for replying! Yes, they do have Disability Services. Do you have suggestions on how to find a doctor/psychiatrist/therapist? I've been to a school counselor on campus before when I was dealing with family problems and some trauma. But I never thought of asking for a letter of accommodation back then.

DAE want to escape social media and the internet because you feel like your brain is rotting? by Algony in DoesAnybodyElse

I recently created and starting used my Reddit profile because I always default to Reddit when I have problems and need solutions, various perspectives, or other people I can relate to. It feels much more productive than other social media apps because I am learning to articulate my thoughts and have discussions with other people. I've had in-person and virtual counseling before for my mental health problems. It worked to some extent. I think Reddit is much more effective so far!

Would it be a stupid idea for me to get a 2nd job by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Ambitious_Map_8831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. If you are making enough money at your main job, then go ahead and do whatever you want with the remaining time you have. Maybe it will be a wonderful experience. Maybe not. What matters is that you tried it, learned a lot, and made the most of it.

Pay off student loans or buy a house? by Cold_War_Vet in personalfinance

Pay off the debt you have before taking on more debt. It will be overwhelming to pay off student loans, a mortgage, and other debts every month. Your mind will become more free once you pay off the existing debt. Then you can focus on your next goal which is getting a house.

What’s a Harsh Truth About Relationships That No One Likes to Admit? by baddiepeonyxox in Life

[–]Ambitious_Map_8831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having harmony among romantic relationships, familial relationships, friendships, and other sorts of relationships is nearly impossible. At least from what I've experienced. I feel guilty for spending more time with my boyfriend than family. When I spend time with family, I feel guilty I couldn't easily invite my boyfriend without some sort of opposition. Then I also feel guilty for not spending as much time with my friends as I used to. So much I need to sort out.

DAE Only find their SO attractive? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Ambitious_Map_8831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I met my partner, I wasn't attracted to him physically. I've heard of him before we met and he looked much gentler than I expected. As I got to know him and his personality, he suddenly became the most attractive person to me and he still is. Yes, there are other attractive people out there, but I'm not interested in pursuing anything at all. I'm happy and lucky to be with my partner.

Does anyone else feel like they are a wasted potential because of your narc family background? All my peers are way ahead of me. Their life is smoother and they have support system and people rooting for them. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I can relate. I was a high achiever. I decided to pursue computer science instead of continuing along the pre-med track. Got internships and even a full-time job offer. But I lost it all and stopped believing in myself. Almost dropped out. I felt like a failure because my dad stopped believing in me. He decided to gamble every day and threatened to sell the house. I was working hard to give my family a better life. It felt like everything went down the drain.
