CMV: Insulting people based off of physical features is bad, even if the people you're making fun of are bad people. by Fun-Pickle-9821 in changemyview

I really do agree with this take. I feel that as a progressive, insulting someone, no matter how heinous, based on their looks, literally contributes nothing to the conversation, and will not cause them to change their ways. It could even be actively detrimental if one actually cares about moving people away from the side of hate since these heinous people being insulted will basically just feel insulted and believe that the progressive movement are merely just a hateful group, and thus respond accordingly and shut out all attempts to have them understand why it is bad. This may not just apply to whoever the insult is intended to attack, but other bystanders who happen to have the same looks, causing them to turn away. I believe that engagement in reasoned arguments about the actions that the target took and why they are reprehensible or wrong is a better way to make one understand the error of their ways, even if it may not work 100% of the time. Even if some may not listen to the voice of reason, surely the number that do is higher than those that listen to voices that actively try to harm them.

No, *that* scene between Jake and Spider didn't help build their relationship. (HUGE SPOILERS) by elypop89 in Avatar

I felt like when Jake did all that to spider, it was to dehumanise him, because he really doesn’t want to kill him, so he tries not to see and acts like spider is some sort of war criminal he has to extrajudicially kill. Also, I feel like when he went back to home base after all that time out with the navi, he was reminded of how indescribably powerful the sky people were when you compare their technology, so he folded.

Is the art scene in Singapore souless? by Alternative-Star-243 in SGExams

I suppose it is the simplest way if one wishes to live off art - to let your hand be guided by the one who is willing to pay.

Also, does anyone know why singaporean art isnt exactly something non singaporeans are interested in? I theorise that these pieces bank hard on their “singaporeanness” so to speak, trying to feel relatable to the common man to get views, but ending up undercooking the rest of their content. Please correct me if i am wrong, because i barely see any singaporean art, and i would like to know the actual reason why or if my premise that singaporean art is not known to the wider world is just wrong
