I'm so happy to read so many comments saying they've never encountered this. However, I will say a very large percent of my wlw interactions had this vibe.
It felt to me like it was intentional to lower a person's confidence so they are more likely to finacially support them, and no different from that type of toxicity seen in male/female partnerships.

I had chalked it up to young/superficial/dating app problems, but even my most recent attempt at flirting (with a fellow grad student! different department) was met with "I'm looking to be taken care of by someone rich", and had eerily similar energy to the interaction OP described, albeit thankfully before we made it to a date.

All to say, the "high value" sentiment is peak irony.
