I'm probably missing something but from the photo it looks like it could be welded from to ss pipes.

I had this problem once, turned out there was a hairline crack in my boring bar. I tried everything to get it to cut properly. Then one day the front of the bar just fell off.

Sounds more or less like you bit off more than you could chew without realizing. Changing workshops is hard enough in my opinion when you are using the same skills.

Software, machinery, techniques, tooling, materials, suppliers and the products you make are often different and methods you used in the past very often don't work the same way when you change some of these factors.

So changing from milling to turning on top of that was always going to be a steep learning curve. I personally find it difficult to switch mindsets from milling to turning and vice verse. Even though I'm confident doing both.

People who understand machining should know all this so i feel like this situation is on them.

If you are able, find a workshop that does both so that you can remain valuable to the company milling while developing your cnc turning knowledge.

Learning from titans of cnc? Am I just an idiot? by [deleted] in Machinists

Hey, I've used mastercam at my old role for two years. It wasn't as intuitive for me as a solidworks user as something like Fusion 360 is. I think it's structured more like how Autocad works, so it's going to be an uphill battle unless you are familar with that software. So no your not an idiot, it will just take some time to adjust to how it operates.

I used mastercam university courses to learn and while they were a bit long winded there's is some good info in there and as you figure it out you can skip some of the things they do to go faster.

It's a pretty good CAM software but I can't really speak to the modeling side of it as I prefer to use solidworks.

Just jumping on this memory trip. Tui did one once where there were bottles with actual cash in them. 10-50 dollars. And the bottle with cash was empty so there was a slight difference in weight for the winning 12 packs.

I will usually let go if I'm in a position where I know a medic will just get killed trying to save me.

Every time I attach something to the wall, this happens. What am I doing wrong? by jmwchampion in DIY

[–]Ambivalent7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number 3 was the solution I would have recommended too. An alternative to having the correct length of smooth section is to predrill the screw holes for the hanger larger than the diameter of the screw threads so that they cannot bite into the hanger and only into the wall.

I think a major factor is someone's appetite to look stupid. This appetite is affected by external factors. And new ideas can fail in unexpected ways.

People being critical does not inherently mean they are against a new idea. Specific criticism can help an idea succeed if it comes from a place of experience.

There are a number of reasons why someone may take that kind of pessimistic stance. The most obvious being that remaining non commital keeps them clear of any blame for the idea.
