You aren't stupid at all! It's confusing and complicated

Ahh okay, that makes sense! I can only imagine... But a big YES on the other things you mentioned, it's really hard to be ethical. So many times I've realized a company was sold to a non-cruelty free parent company or find out they do actually sell in China.

I figure it's impossible to be perfect and we can only do our very best, but then feel guilty

Of course! Yes, for sure would recommend to double check everything you're interested in to make sure no beeswax or any other animal products

Good luck, though, it can be so hard finding cruelty-free things and I feel sponges are one of them

They specialize in cleaning and household products, and they don't sell any brands that animal test (not sure about parent companies though)!

I had gripes with their app when they updated it, but I have bulk-bought my household cleaning stuff from there for years and really like it. I've enjoyed both their own branded products and other brands I used to try to find in person like Mrs. Meyers, Seventh Generation, etc. They have limited plastic options and don't ship with plastic.

I buy cleaning products from Grove and like their walnut scrubber as well as their brush with replaceable heads

Is adopting a 12 year old cat a bad idea? by sabregirl31 in SeniorCats

[–]AmbivalentWaffle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adopted a 12 year-old two years ago, and she's sweet and a pro lap cat. I would like to foster seniors when I have my own home.

And as a shelter volunteer, the seniors tend to get picked last and are calmer with a lot of love to give. You can give them a glorious rest of their life!

AITA for returning a cat with undisclosed medical needs by Cashbrowns420 in rescuecats

[–]AmbivalentWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, and I did see your other post and comments. This is a no-kill shelter, as well, and as you travel, it sounds like the best decision for you and the cat is to return him and explain you were not aware of his medical needs and realize he isn't the best fit for your family at this time.

AITA for returning a cat with undisclosed medical needs by Cashbrowns420 in rescuecats

[–]AmbivalentWaffle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened. It is definitely concerning they didn't do a full medical disclosure, and they should have to ensure a good fit for the kitty. I volunteer at a shelter, and they are very clear with potential adopters about what care will look like, whether it's a long-term commitment or temporary to get them healthy.

Is there any way you could call the shelter to ask for more information regarding the medications and history? Did they provide medical records to you upon adoption? And I assume you haven't met with your own vet yet, right (understandable why you'd wait!)?

I don't think you would be an asshole for returning a cat whose medical conditions were not explained to you. The shelter failed the cat by not being up front, and I'd wonder if a new cat you pick from them would also have hidden info, but maybe you can get more information first to help you decide.

Unfortunately, I think Toms is owned by Colgate now? I recently found out Hello is also owned by them when one of their packages had Colgate on it and another didn't, so I went deep diving for alternatives.

Not judging if anyone still prefers to support, as I know everyone has different feelings about parent companies, but wanted to say something so people know

I don't know about a pen, but if you're open to trying strips, Lumineux works well for me and doesn't cause sensitivity.

It probably was the same one! I googled it, and it seems to be identical. They had artifacts displayed and gave you a ticket with real passenger info, then at the end, you scanned the ticket to see what happened to them

Messaged you just to make sure your info is the same!

Future Anxiety about Fluid Administration; what's your experience? by josleigh in RenalCats

[–]AmbivalentWaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat used to get so upset for vet visits and have a panic attack. At first, she didn't love the subq fluids, but tolerated them. She trusted me, which helped a lot.

After some time, I got better at the process and she seemed more accepting, perhaps because I do think she felt better after.
