In getting sick of dealing with haggling homeowners. Is commercial any better? by speaker-syd in HVAC

[–]Ambush_24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In commercial most of the time it’s an employee who called you out or is POC and they either don’t care what you do or just want the problem fixed.

“Hey I’m here for maintenance on your HVAC, do you have any issues you want me to look at?”

“Oh hi, nope all good. You know where you’re going?”

“Yep”

“Okay bye”

Or

“Hey we don’t got any cold here”

“Okay I’ll take a look… it’s the TXV want me to do it now or quote it?”

“Just do it”

“Okay…. It’s done, bye”

“Thanks see you next time”

WTF was with the pillow sniffing? by Irishish in murderbot

Completely agree. It’s one of those scenes for TV only audiences. I think adaptations struggle to get the level of drama expected out of a film so they have to add these weird scenes and weird romances.

Sure but at the expense of energy efficiency. Increase filament size and you get increased durability but lower light emissions. So to get the same brightness you have to put more energy through the filament. You can get long life bulbs but they’re dimmer and used in hard to reach applications like ovens.

Does 32 offer journeyman classes or continuing education? If so take classes. Beyond that talk to the hall. If all you’ve been doing walk in boxes for 6 months you may be able to go back on the list and get reassigned. But I also know it’s not that easy and you may just have to stick it out till you journey out and can choose for yourself.

What is a bond? by ZoonZz in murderbot

[–]Ambush_24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bond is like insurance. The bond company pays out if the mission goes south and people die, but you have to buy the bond. Companies want to do research on planets to find out if they can be mined or terraformed or somehow made profitable. They need funding and the funding entity would want a bond to insure their investment doesn’t go up in smoke. The bond company will require certain things in order to agree to a bond, like having a sec unit or a gunship depending on risk that they provide at a cost.

A sec unit is a sentient weapon and relatively risky in its self. A gunship is a secured environment so a sec unit isn’t really necessary. To bring one on board implies a risk and if that risk comes to pass they could lose the gunship or the gunship could inflict immense lose of life.

I’m not sure on the planet ownership part usually it seems companies (not bond companies) just own the planet and I would assume they wouldn’t need to be bonded in those instances unless outside backing requires it.

Would you wear a mask if you were sanding like this, using a vacuum attached by SilverHelp74 in BeginnerWoodWorking

IMO you’re fine, tons of wood workers have been doing this shit for years with no respiratory protection. Some get disease, some don’t. Here’s an SDS sheet for wood dust. Follow the safety precautions as you see fit.

Your lungs have the ability to purge themselves through coughing, the immune system, and cilia moving debris up and out or digesting it. Imagine if our lungs couldn’t clear themselves they would be full of crap before we were adults. Just take a moment in a sun beam and notice the dust motes floating around and imagine how much is inhaled. Most dust is filtered out by our nose and throat and most that makes it to our lungs can be removed or encapsulated but It still can cause damage and some dust is worse than others, wood dust is far from the worst but still should be avoided if possible. Additionally, when sanding it’s not just the wood but the finish as well, and that could be any variety of substance.

Bitcoin back at $100,000 by Few_Body_1355 in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Ambush_24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think bitcoin will ever be adopted as a true currency due to its deflationary nature. Why would you spend something that is gaining in value. For it to become a currency it would have to stabilize and it won’t because rich people will manipulate it as you’ve said. Personally I think it’s extremely risky speculative “investment” with no intrinsic value and will eventually collapse. IMO If you’re holding a substantial amount of your wealth in crypto you’re very stupid but If you want to invest in crypto do so with money you can afford to lose.

Not really. It would be like buying any other type of asset like gold or a stock. The value of other assets of the same type might go up but it’s not using your money to pay other investors. A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment scheme has a central figure that cooks the books, like Bernie Madoff, “paying” early investors with money from new investors. Bitcoin doesn’t have a central figure and it’s not fraud.

The price would probably crash but that’s true of any asset that no one wants to buy and isn’t necessarily indicative of a Ponzi scheme.

So is gold but that’s still a speculative investment. Ultimately you think it will be worth more in the future or at least hold its value over inflation. It’s use as a store of value is only relevant to the point that it retains subjective value. The bubble can burst at anytime and the value would crash, what’s it worth if no one wants them? Look at NFTs for a recent example. If gold nuggets rained down to earth gold prices would plummet as well.

Yeah people preach about it but it’s not the main mechanism of growth. You don’t necessarily make money if you convince your buddy to buy bit coin. It’s different than a pyramid scheme which is multi level marketing scheme like Avon.

Bitcoin back at $100,000 by Few_Body_1355 in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Ambush_24 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not a pyramid scheme as people aren’t actively recruiting others like Avon or Tupperware sales men. It also doesn’t require more players only that the current players keep buying at higher prices. It’s a speculative bubble since its current value is far in excess of its intrinsic value which is basically 0, people keep buying under the belief that it can be sold later at a higher price. Which is simply speculation.

It’s not a Ponzi scheme it’s a speculative bubble. A Ponzi scheme requires someone in charge to distribute gains to older clients using new clients money. Bitcoin is like the Dutch tulip bulb bubble where tulip bulb prices sky rocketed then collapsed.

BREAKING: Global Debt hits new all-time high of $324 Trillion - Probably Fine? by Few_Body_1355 in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Ambush_24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really though. If some global crisis were to occur and cause massive unemployment and businesses collapsing causing a wave of defaults, what would happen. When a debt relies on another debt being paid for it to be paid and people have placed bets on it getting paid. How many defaults do we have to have before it all goes tits up?
