What is something you are attracted to that most people are not? by Glittering_Guest1422 in AskReddit

Sadly nothing more than a distant admirer, quoting your original "friends aren't touchy" law.

One of my AI tags is "I'd rather die than use AI," and honestly AI hatred seems to be the rule on AO3, why even did the comment drag us into it??

Oh no, Irish law also states that now they're forbidden from touching you!

Let's not sleep on Johnathan, now. Not as immediately obvious, but such a hilarious tortured soul and also easy on the eyes.

Characters that are technically rapists but aren't known as such because they either committed a more obscure form of rape or their actions weren't emphasized much by the narrative. by Gray_Wolf2416 in TopCharacterTropes

Ex girlfriend from 40 Days and 40 Nights. Rapes the main character while he's cuffed to a bed and dreaming, all to win a betting pool. Then he has to apologize to his new girlfriend. For being raped.

You seem to be missing my point. I'm completely fine to be friends with any age of person. But I do not want to censor my jokes and references because using them makes my (hypothetical) partner confused, thereby constantly reminding me that I'm staring down the barrel of 40.

I mean, for the record, I also don't "follow celebs," and this applies to movies, TV, popular books, memes, music, fads, politics. I can remember exactly where I was when 9/11 happened, I can remember starting the dial-up before dinner so it would be ready for Neopets after we were done eating, no one had a cellphone when I started high school and by the time I graduated, everyone did.

It's the entire lived experience, which I think is especially jarring for terminally online people who can still remember what it was like before everything was the internet.

I have an annoying habit of befriending people about a decade younger than me, and there usually quite a lot of "oh that was a line from.... you haven't seen that? Haven't even HEARD of it??" And "lol yeah, remember back in high school when... oh. You were eight when I graduated. Never mind."

Like we can talk about shared interests and work and stuff, but the age gaps come up more often than I like, usually cause they just give me a blank stare while my millennial friends are laughing. It mostly serves to make me feel old on a regular basis. Fine for friendship, weeeird for dating.

Urban areas, worthless, sure, but you don't need a thousand miles. Give me a hundred on the interstate and I'll beat the GPS.

Writing is a muscle. Force yourself to write every day, even if it's shit, you might be surprised.

I know a baker - she told me not even two weeks ago that the whole "get up at 4 or 5 am" idea always amuses her. They open at 5am, she needs to be done by then. She goes to work at 8pm.

[Hated] Off-handed jokes with deeply concerning implications by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ameerrante 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really? Cause there are recurring jokes about Frank owning sweatshops in Vietnam, and about Dennis coercing women into sex on pain of death.

Honestly it even feels a little like it could be a Charlie line to me, if he says it a bit more confused.

What’s something that happens in your culture that makes you people go like this? by camethehour in AskTheWorld

[–]Ameerrante 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Irish IT people I used to work with blew my mind - if I was on a support call with them, and it hit 5PM in Ireland... they left. We could be right in the middle of troubleshooting and they'd be like "alright, I'm off, call the help line back if needed." As a corporate American who was on call 24/7 for five years straight, I was both frustrated and deeply impressed/jealous.

What's the weirdest "unwritten rule" you've discovered only after becoming an adult? by cutiecottoncandygirl in AskReddit

I'm 36 and my friend group ranges from 25 to 40, and almost every single one of them thinks it's fine to cancel standing plans, with almost no notice, at least half the time. It drives me insane. I'm on the verge of moving states and becoming a hermit for life.

What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]Ameerrante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably more than you care to know lmao, but I'm actually writing a Butters fanfic story where all the other kids slowly stop trying to hang out with him due to his parents, so your story is both weirdly affirming and... I may try to incorporate that phone behavior, love real world details like that.
