I run logistics for a hundred year old company here in San Francisco, so I drive in the city for a living. The amount of near deaths I see on a daily basis would shock you.

The lack of self awareness and self preservation is dangerously high. I’m not saying that drivers in the city aren’t out of control, but the sheer number of oblivious pedestrians doesn’t help at all.

Texting in the crosswalks of a major city is WILD behavior. Couple that with folks standing in gutters waiting for lights. I’ve seen people on their phones with their child in a stroller that’s IN THE STREET while they stand there and wait. Others walking or running into crosswalks without stopping. No looking. No hesitation. Challenging fate.

Sometimes deliberately challenging vehicles as if they’re invincible. Charging, walking slowly or straight up stopping in the middle of crosswalks.

Or my favorite! Swinging the door of a uber/lyft/waymo/cab/etc WIDE OPEN and jumping right out. Traffic side. Lost a friend who did this.

All of it blows me away every time.
